      If I’m honest I can’t remember off the top of my head, I’ll have to dig out the invoice to check

    Do you have to Vent the diesel generator? And what is the make it the changeover switch?

    • @Waynesworldofgaming
      @Waynesworldofgaming  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suppose it would all depend on where the generator was kept and how much airflow was available and assess it. The changeover switch was a Europa one

      Exactly. better it was exhausetd with a long metal hose to the outside. At least that way you can heat the garage up!

    I've got someone asking for a genny and changeover, the house is on a TT system so I'll be OK to link the earth from the genny into that aswell?

      I’m no expert on generators but if the house is a TT system and can’t see any reason why you couldn’t. They would both be TT anyway

    Have you looked into using an isolation transformer to negate the earthing issue!!!

    Great video Wayne, aren’t most generators TNS as standard, with only a reference point to earth (TT) taken off the genny to a local rod? I’m no expert though, just something I recall from an old john ward video!🤔😁👍

    should that cable not have been buried a little deeper and have warning tape on top? Maybe not good leaving it on the surface like that

    • @Waynesworldofgaming
      @Waynesworldofgaming  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It could have been, but it is armoured and earthed, so mechanically protected. So shouldn’t be an issue

    No expert on earthing but doesn’t amendment 2 talk about having a earth rod as well as the PME. Just in case of a lost neutral.
    So in theory that’s what you have done added a back up to the TNCS.
    Who knows, I’m sure someone will tell us it’s it’s wrong, enjoyed the video tho.

    You can either bond the earths together as you have done, or just leave the generator on the earth rod. There are pros and cons for either method.
    What you do need to make sure is that the earth and neutral within the generator are bonded together and that the generator chassis is bonded to the neutral, otherwise no earth fault path exists. As long as you have done that, I don't see anything wrong with what you have done.
    If the generator is in the vicinity of the existing installation, then it is better to bond as you will know there won't be any issues with someone being in contact with metal of the generator and the metal of the existing installation at the same time.
    If the generator is on its own in a shack out the way, then it is probably best left on its own stake and not bonded through, so that during an earth fault on the mains supply, there is less earth fault potential transferred to the generator frame. However, a local earth rod to the generator does reduce that effect.
    Downside to bonding the earths together with the rod is that in the event of a broken neutral fault, all the installations on the broken side of the neutral fault will try and utilise the neutral earth path of the rod you installed, and you end up with a large diverted neutral current through it. If the house is out in the country on its own, then probably not much of an issue, something to be more wary of in a street of houses and your house is the only one with an earth rod.
    You would only ever use a neutral-earth contactor for a generator that parallels to the mains, that would disconnect the generator winding from earth to prevent neutral currents flowing, but that is more in the industrial installations than domestic.

    Who pulled main fuse, why did you not fit an auto switch, so much better, and the customer does not need to switch anything, not a great deal more expensive either, and guarantees the earthing question as only one supply used at any one time. and yes that SWA far to shallow.

    I would not be relying on that particular generator.
