Don Draper and Samantha Jones would have definitely slept together! Hey, msyne they did. I could see 23 year old Samantha hooking up with 53 year old Don Draper.

I would absolutely love the idea of seeing something like a flashback. That would be so cool! And you know Samantha would totally take charge because Don definitely enjoys a little spank and tickle from what I saw in one episode!

I don’t think Sam and Don would have hit it. She wasn’t needy enough for him. He would have been attracted to Carrie.

Lmao! I could see that too, but let's play marry, Kill, do
I think he will do Samantha
      Marry Charlotte
      Kill Miranda
I'm not sure about Carrie she could be the wild card

Excellent deep dive on two really great TV shows, and how the characters line up. And good call comparing Samantha Jones with Don Draper.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate this. It took me a few days to really put this altogether, then create the video because it came to me after rewatching mad men! I'm such a fan of both shows, but it never occurred to me until now . Inspiration can come from anywhere at anytime.. thanks for watching too

@@TimelessNewYorkCity Great work. Two other reasons why I liked both of these shows. New York City was another character. And the fashions, of course.

Well, guess what? I'm working on the next comparison between both shows on the areas they lived in and the difference! I was pretty shocked at the similarities ! I'm loving this series. I'm finding it interesting and fun to research and produce.! Thanks again, you are inspiring me more, so I'm going to give you a special shout out in my next video

I dont entirely agree. I think Don is more like Big. Don had a very disturbing childhood and has an unhealthy relationship with s3x and women. He is deeply insecure and his whole life is a lie, an advert like the ones he produces. Samantha is very authentic and has no evidence of a traumatic childhood or unhealthy relationship with s3x. Samantha is liberated and can be herself, whereas Don is living a lie, even his name is a lie. He is so damaged and insecure. Thats not Sam. Carrie is more like Don for the level of insecurity but Don is different as he lives a complete lie.
Peggy and Sam have more in common as they are joth trail blazers for their time.

Love the feedback, thank you so much! I am a huge Sex and the City fan and have watched it numerous times over the years. I only watched Mad Men once when it originally aired, and now that I'm rewatching it, I noticed the similarities in the characters, which prompted me to create this video.
Now, Mr. Big is a whole different hot mess for sure, but one thing that always stood out to me about Sex and the City was the lack of backstory for the characters' family lives. There were episodes where we got one-off comments or insights, like Charlotte having a brother we see once who is never brought up again-even at her two weddings. Similarly, Miranda’s mother dies, and we see her sister once, but her family is never mentioned again during her marriage or when she becomes a mother.
There is only one episode where Carrie mentions her dad, but we learn nothing else about her family, even during her weddings. Mr. Big suddenly has a brother who shows up at his funeral in the new series, which feels random. It's like these characters are isolated with no real family stories.
One thing I never forgot about Samantha was her comment about her mom already having three kids and a drunk husband at her age, implying she has siblings too. Samantha was always my favorite character. I admired her strength but also saw how vulnerable she could be. Her desire for a committed relationship with Richard, her handling of his cheating, her affair with him while with Smith, and pushing Smith to be with other women while she dealt with cancer-all these moments hinted at hidden trauma. She is undoubtedly strong, but I believe there's a backstory that shaped her resilience, similar to Don Draper in Mad Men.
Sorry for the long response but this is a great subject to discuss

@TimelessNewYorkCity thanks, interesting take. I never remembered Sam talking about her family. I only remember the one where Miranda mum died. But I trust you are correct.
Yes, you're right. There is a complete lack of back story in SATC. This is where mad men fleshed out more and gave us way more knowledge of characters..
I think it is hard to compare. Politely I disagree with you, I still feel apart from both Don and Sam being physically both attractive and the types of people who can charm the opposite gender I can't see the similarity.
Maybe Sam did have some childhood trauma, but Don being raised in a whorehouse in the 1940s, where it was immensely shameful and the fact that his first experience of s3x was with an adult s3x worker is so deeply disturbing. He never even told Betty his reality. He had faked his whole identity. Don Draper died in the war.
Sam may have had an alcoholic mother but she never hides any element of her life. She is also nor faking her whole life like Don. Her confidence is authentic, Don's is a lie and an advert to meet the social norms and to fit into what is expected in the 50s. He marries Betty, a perfect 1950s barbie, has 2 kids and a white picket fence. He wants to be seen as a regular middle class successful respectable man. He wants to fit into society and doesn't want to acknowledge his past as he is filled with shame. He also has zero faithful relationships.
He only has a sibling like relationship with Peggy. Even with Peggy he is rarely a great friend.
Sam never hides who she is, she gives zero Fs about fitting into any social norm. She is ahead of her time, and acknowledges reality. She is also a great friend. Don is not a good friend. Sam doesn't cheat, she just has s3x openly. Don can't do that. He is extremely repressed. There is more Mr Big similarities with Don. Sam does grow and learn to let her heart break and be in love, but she is the least selfish and most honest person.
Let me put it this way, I'd rather be stuck in a broken elevator with Sam than Don.
At the end, Sam would be your best friend, make you laugh and support you while you felt scared about being stuck in the elevator.
Don would just come on to you (if you're female), it would probably be very hot and fun with him, but as soon as you are rescued from the elevator, he will forget your name, act like he doesn't know you, lie to everyone and say that you came on to him and not the other way round.
The actor John Hamm is really gorgeous and so is Kim Cattral. They are both 10/10 in looks, but that's the end of the comparison for me. I feel bad for Don and his life in mad men, it made me think about how unauthentic our own lives could be, but Sam is an inspiration and I wish I had a friend like her.

So true! I can totally see your point too. Sam was the best of the bunch for sure, and it bothered me so much that she would not return to the new show "and just like crap" that cameo was not a return it was her goodbye to the fans! I hate that show so much but I can still enjoy the original one (sort of). As for Don (wow) that whorehouse backstory was crazy! Talk about trauma. That era in time and that generation is so fascinating to me. I am doing more research on that era because we know so much about the baby boomers of course but I want to research more of Don's era because they really handled a lot for all of us too. I am sure there a many more like Don in that era. Now for Jon Hamm he is timeless but Don as a person scares the hell out of me. Way too many issues. Thanks for your input, I can totally see your point and thanks for watching too.
