    LOVE your videos! Packed with helpful information, especially for folks like me that can't afford to spend big $ on bait and tackle. I love the offbeat bait options you offer. Your joy in fishing is infectious! I love float-fishing for carp on light tackle. It is effective and very fun. Thanks again and keep 'em coming! Useful, beautiful, always fun and entertaining!

    Should do a match corn vs peas

    • @rrplanb4030
      @rrplanb4030 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is a top idea. Corn is easier to hook and stays on better I would think.
      But would it defeat peas? Especially if the fish were pre-baited with a mix of both baits for a few days before.

    I remember my dad telling me about a spot on one of the rivers in the Midlands (Severn or the Trent I believe?) where there was a cannery that backed on to the river and because of all the peas that got washed out of the drains it was the only thing you could catch Roach on

    late to the party. I am just getting into carp here in California--if the purists don't kill them off. Peas. I fish the bays of SoCal for Spotted Bay Bass and the occasional Halibut. (Both are wonderful fish on light tackle. A 16 inch Spottie, or a 22 inch California Halibut (not the same as the Bering Sea variety), on a med/light rod can make your day.) One day while out in my kayak I ran across an Asian gentleman. During a discussion on techniques, he told me his secret for Spotties was green peas. I carried some for awhile but never tried them. Better to use my $4 plastic jigs, or $10 Japanese tail spinners. But, watch out Carp, here I come with my green peas.
    Love your videos. Between my 86 year old hearing, and your accent, I miss a bit of the nuance. Still---
    PS On one of my trips to England while working for BAe, I tried to tease some Carp sight fishing on a fly. They ignored my unsophisticated American efforts.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to chum those carp up with some floating dog biscuits if you want one on a flyrod,but check the regulations,some countries don't allow chumming in freshwater. Glad to hear you are still out there fishing.

      I live in the UK but have carp fished in Pennsylvania a few times. Corn works great, but have not tried peas. I used something called a cage feeder. Not sure if they sell them in the US, but you could make your own out of women's hair curlers. I did when I was there. Caught loads, while other fishermen around caught zero. Hope that helps!

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't be unsportsmanlike, even with carp. And don't use technology. No electronics at all. All you need to catch carp anywhere is a cheap rod and reel, plus a hook, a sinker, and sometimes a bobber. Put some bait of the hook, be it peas, sweet corn, or a good dough ball. Boiled cornmeal and garlic powder makes the best dough ball. Put the bait on the hook, cast it, and wait. That's all you need, if you're a real fisherman.

      Boiling water Fine ground Corn flour, keep adding and stirring till you have a dough good enough to stay on the hook. Add a heaping tablespoon of sugar, if you can find halva thats, a killer instred if sugar, but sugar is ok. Later on knead some peanut butter into it, and find the stuff that is like cotton but its not cotton, its the white stuff that the soft toys are stuffed with, and the same thing many pillows are stuffed with. It has very nice fibers, kneed some into your dough for hooks, so it holds well on the hook. may be a some white bread to adjust it, sometimes may be some white flour to adjust it too. It has to stay good enough on the hook. Some fennel oil drops or sunflower drops on it nice too, but usually peanut butter alone would suffice.
      On the other hand while fishing you must have the dough for hooks at the softest possible, But Still able to hold on the hook, the key is SOFTEST POSSIBLE while fishing. If not it will result in EMPTY STRIKES. You rely mostly on fibers to keep it on the hook, but the dough at at most sift possible. The fish will fail to hook up if dough it's self is hard. The dough can seem soft, but if you get empty strikes one after another, you then know, the dough is hard! Once we had with my friend about 5 empty strikes, we had no fish hooked until we adjusted with some lake water, rekneaded it, to the softest posssible. We had the fish on shortly after, and others followed. If you are in the state that allows chumming, to ensure strikes, do chum. Without chumming carp fishing is most times tough. With chumming usually never fails to be spectacular. Chum the big chum not in the morning when you show up to fish. When you show up to fish, you just trickle chum, with sone chum dough on tge sinker. Chumming in the morning the big chum is mist times poor strategy. That could work, but in most cases it's a far cry, and for many reasons.
      YOU CHUM FROM THE EVENING, the next day go to fish in the morning 8 to 10am be there is fine.
      Typical effective easy to do chum, get 5 loaves of bread from dollar store, white one, or else where cheap. Get spicy Pringles chips one to two packs. Get dollar store chicken broth, and get a carton of fruit punch knead it all into dough, all the loaves, all pringles. Presoak pringles for 5 min or so, break it all down, and start kneading the whole thing. Use chicken broth and fruit punch as you like, make very soft dough. The better it disperses in water later on the better. It's no need the fish to nesessarily eat it all, it's good if some can just saturate the waters. Don't do that in a river, you find a good carp lake, you need the water to be relatively stable, if it's riddled with current everything will flow away and will not work, you need your chum to stay and saturate the area you fish at. You buy soft, soft cheap white bread dollar store type the one that feels like nothing when you squeeze it. This one is digested by fish quickly. Fish will have a nice time dining, but will be hungry shortly after. You need the fish in the morning hungry. But having eaten quite some, will make a strong memory impression on the fish, and it will stay in your fishing area, the taste of food it experienced will make the fish prowl this area in hopes of more.
      But as said your chum got to be plentiful, but able to be digested fast, to have a hungry fish in the morning. You must be sure your state allows chumming if it's not then this whole thing is not for you unless you travel to a state where chumming is allowed.
      So in the evening at sunset you chum, in the morning go to fish, as early as you please. Now you need to have some of this same chum. Make some fresh one again, or buy a total of 6 loaves and the 6th save for the fishing it's self. On the hooks you put the stuff for the hooks that I mentioned at the very beginning made with corn. But on the sinker you put the chum dough, simply dress the sinker with a dough ball, cover the sinker. This ball must be good enough to stay well on the sinker to survive your casting well. This never fails to get you fun fishing, once you cast in about an hour sometimes sooner most times spectacular fishing starts. This method allows for a lot of fish caught, 50 lbs and up total is not surprising. Bunch of 2, 3 lbs 5lbs 10lbs and 20lbs, big fish may happen, I saw it happen. Use spinnings, cast at least 50 to 70 yards far. Make sure you got good depth where you fish, 15 to 20 feet is just right. Could work with less depth, but carp are smart and spooky. Though the chum you dropped in the evening, and troubleless eating they had, will kill a lot of their worry, they will be less careful, and more trusting the following morning and day.
      When you chum spread the chum in the area of about 20 x 20 squareyards, at least 50 to 70 yeards away from the shore.
      Cast in the area you chummed.
      Release the carp back in the water after you catch it, don't kill and throw it away to rot. Release it back, the predators will hunt it down when they need it. Good carp fishing starts in May, research more on you place, as you are pretty up there north. I wouldn't waste time in cold months, or you need to learn specific stuff for that. Typically more,spicy stuff is needed to activate lethargic fish, and you must find a hole where the carp sits, for success. For searching the hole and a conglomerate of fish you need a boat and fishfinder. In warm months the fish will come by, by itself just sniffing the chum out, and thus learn the new attractive feeding ground. In the warm months carp is very mobile, and will come to your chum problem free, but it will be very very careful. Chumming in the evening is the key to let the fish experience trouble free eating, and it will drop it's carefulness and distrust, in the morning you will have a hungry and eager to strike fish.
      Cats and carp, TH-cam channel can teach you a lot on winter carp fishing, but regardless of anything, the cold time is still tough time

    excellent video. I've been telling my mates for years to keep it simple. they spend silly amounts of money on tackle and bait. The only thing I would say is get your landing net in earlier, that way you won't spook the fish as it comes up and closer to the net.

    This is the second video of yours i watched. Quite nice. If I can make a suggestion, for better hit ratio, use hair rigs. It will work better in terms of strike ration in hooking the carp as they suck the whole rig in which insures better hook setting. Just a suggestion.

    Brilliant Video Graeme, Carp on Peas, what's the trusty line do you prefer, as you were not happy with the 6lbs BS you were using?. It's a Mandarin Duck . For Koreans mandarin ducks represent peace, fidelity, and plentiful offspring. Similar to the Chinese, they believe that these ducks mate for life. For these reasons, pairs of mandarin ducks called wedding ducks are often given as wedding gifts and play a significant role in Chinese culture.

    I never tried that in the USA but back to Ukraine where I Bulgarian by descent, was born, I would fish carp like this:
    get about 4 to 5 inch ripe yellow dry peas in the bucket, soak it in water overnight and in the morning go to the lake.
    would disperse that in a square about 15x10 meters some 30 meters from the shore. Right away start casting, 20 plus years ago that was, the lake was rural, and local officials gave us zero restrictions on the number of rods we could use. I typically would cast 10 of them lined up one by one. In an hour the bite would start, and I would absolutely go nuts trying to reel in everywhere, I would run from line to line like a jet engine was in my butt, so spectacular the bite was at times

    That is utterly the best fishing video i have ever seen. I could not believe you could top the catching of carp on the roast dinner video. The challenge is on GP, what other obscure baits do you think you can catch on. I bet you could catch one with a jelly baby, or a piece of pasta. The Budget Bait Challenge !! I would love to see it done. Thumbs up Guys!!

Is there any trick i could be doing wrong or was just unlucky? I try to avoid bite alarms, is ot possible that I am missing lot of bites? Cracking video though, keep them coming!

      The Carp are generally more greedy and push other species out of your swim.If fisheries stocked less carp there would be more chance of getting the other species and of course you can use different tactics and baits for them.
