At first I couldn't comprehend that price tag. It's 100k more than a Turbo S, and twice the price of a GT3. But then I think about how insanely fun a topless GT3 would be to drive, it's probably one of the most fun & enjoyable cars to drive of all time. And on top of that they added beautiful, timeless styling. And with limited production it will hold it's value forever, or go up in value. So I think I've changed my mind about it, and can understand that price tag.

I can't remember when was the last time Doug reviewed a manual car. It's just insane to see a new 2020 manual Porsche.

@Jesse Mitchell and the dumbest part is that Porsche pulled a McLaren (not having access to the motor), so if it breaks down, you're screwed.
This is not 2020 model but a 2018 model, 1948-2018=70
Jesse Mitchell i guess these cars are gonna be garage queen and its value will shoot up because of limited edition.
@Jesse Mitchell: Well that's the thing, this speedster is fitted with a naturally aspirated 4.0 liter flat six boxer engine, which means it has good engine balance and low center of gravity which keeps the car well planted, secondly it will definitely last longer than any turbo or turbocharged engines, and they are cheaper to maintain. The best part is it is mated to a 6 speed manual transmission, the only draw back is that I hope it would be fitted with a 7speed manual, for better fuel economy and also adds value to it's cool factor, so again less maintenance cost.
And last but not least the convertible cabriolet roof needs to be inserted or removed manually, that means it will outlast any automatic or motorized convertible in terms of its durability, and this too adds no cost or almost zero maintenance.
Hence the increase in price by almost 100k from the company's point of view, but as a customer like many others I personally too feel that 300K is not justifiable.
And finally if they really wanted to shed weight they should have kept a traditional mechanical handbrake rather than these modern switch or button e-brake, it would have definitely shed some good amount of weight and the mechanical handbrake would be cheaper and easier to maintain.
They were sold out in a day lol. Porsche's are insanely popular, 2000 cars isn't a lot for their standards

The "weight saving" measures are honestly so gimmicky that it's offensive.
SaveTheManuals exactly. Carmakers would charge an extra 100k to save weight, but you can save that same amount of weight by eating light breakfast and taking a hardy shit before track day lol

I stand by saying the "weight savings" are super gimmicky but don't get me wrong all of these GT Porsche's are incredible cars and certainly are legitimate driver's cars especially compared to most of what is offered new these days.

Completely agree with you on Porsche manuals. Years ago I would drive an '87 911 on occasion. No other clutch and shifter have come close. I also loved how the pedals on that '87 came out of the floor.

But what you didn't know @Doug DeMuro, is the full-throttle upshift. Yes you can press your foot into the accelerator pedal fully, and press the clutch at the same time and put it into a higher gear. Probably the best manual feature invented.
I knew my experience with my opel gt's roof closing and opening procedure would come in handy someday. I was preparing for my new 2020 porsche 911 all along.

DOUG..great video, as always! Though I highly doubt you'll see my comment here, thought I'd throw it up anyways. I remember back in the day, car magazines lauding the 5-speed transmission of Honda Preludes. I've owned 3 myself, and would (tend) to agree with them (depending on model, year, etc). Would be great to see you choose a car model, and do reviews of them through their development, and compare them (if possible) to current cars. Supra, 300ZX, Camaro, Mustang, Civic, WRX, etc. Clearly there's nothing there that you haven't already tested, but perhaps a back-to-back for a specific model, or a short series of a run of cars. Anyways, great vids, been watching you for years. Cheers from sunny Phoenix! :)
