Glad you are in the area! Have you had any luck recently? Not sure I am enjoying the new system - seems like a waste of time and fewer numbers of unique people are getting bottles - meaning I've seen so many post now with people coming away with multiples of Stagg, EHT, ETL, etc. etc. when before it was only 1 person getting 1 of them.
I've lived in NoVa for 15 years and I've never seen Eagle Rare or blantons sitting on the shelves. It feels like unemployed 21 year olds and retired guys are just going around buying everything up constantly.
I would agree with you. It's been a lot more dry recently. My greatest recommendation is to get on the FaceBook groups where the nice people post drops. It is tough here in VA. Best of luck and thanks for watching and commenting!
@@CapitolBourbon The drops are posted in the groups, but the vast majority of time the bottles are gone by the time you can get there. Last week I was getting a haircut in Arlington so I stopped by the ABC store to see what was available and they had the midsummer night's dram on the shelf. I don't think it's very good at that price so I didn't buy any but as I was in the parking lot taking a work phone call I watched 12 guys speed walk/run into the store looking for that. It was wild to watch.
@@2011blueman agreed! It is insanity and I don't refer this system at all. By the time the "public" is notified, everyone already called their buddies to stop by before. Really just have to get lucky, wish they would hold their allocations more often more less frequent, but bigger drops. Not liking the VABC now haha
@@CapitolBourbon Yeah, I thought the weekend line up and wait drops were a much more fair system where people that have day jobs could wait in line, talk bourbon with people, and have a chance at allocated stuff. The texting/instagram system was bogus because the employees leaked the drops ahead of time to people that paid them, and this system seems to be the same thing without the text messages. My closest ABC hadn't dropped anything in weeks and then on Sunday (when I was traveling for christmas) they finally just put everything out like they use to do. There is no consistency in this system and very little chance at actually scoring anything. I go to Maryland these days instead, which is a shame.
Looks like you share my same route! Got lucky and picked up a Stagg from the Ballston drop. I also recently got the Heart's Release, and was pleasantly surprised! I'm typically not a Makers fan, but I enjoyed this bottle. I've heard mixed reviews about this year's Cellar Aged release, so I'm happy with the Heart's for half the price.
Haha may see you out there on the hunt then! Northern Arlington seemed to be pretty scattered and really random TBH. So sad I missed on the Ballston drop, I live right across from there but was out hunting in Burke! Have yet to try the MM Heart, I got it on the shelf ready and just need to find some time. Thank you for watching and commenting! Cheers!
I know Manassas and Centreville got some really good drops. Even Leesburg recently with many stores getting Parks, MMCA, and Stagg all in the same drops too. Arlington is super competitive though and population dense so might make some sense. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@CapitolBourbon Me too earlier this year! I'm still just beginning to delve deeper into whiskies, more of an Agave spirits guy, but nice to see more DMV whiskeytubers.
Haha you should still be able to find them if you look hard enough. S&W Liquor in DC had some on the shelves. Think I'll keep it for now. Thanks for watching and commenting though!
Hey, if you're ever in the northern VA area. Let me know! Can definitely make some time for that. This time of the year, everything seems to be dropping. Thank you for watching!
Nice good find! I just found an EHT SiB. I already have one though and TBH the barrel I got isn't any better than the Small Batch. I think EHT SiB are really hit or miss. Thanks for watching and cheers!
@@CapitolBourbon got my single barrrel friday right after this comment ! mine is def oaky maybe it needs to open up more but still something i would go back to
Ah good information. Yes I can include that as well. Although, I did visit quite a few stores (probably at least 6) that I didn't post because there were no interesting or new bottles. Thanks for watching!
I am just in FaceBook chats and groups. Only 2 chats and I kept my notifications on all the time lol. Good thing is that I work from home and live across from the Ballston location. Thanks for watching and cheers!
i'm not far from you in va. I HATE the new drop system. i miss when i could camp and have the social aspect of hanging out and talking bourbon with people. and since the drop system changed, i found and passed on the heart release, and picked up the WT 70th as well, both were same store/same drop, and i'm much more of a wt fan than makers. i just want to find another RR15 or maybe get lucky and find the new single rickhouse. the RR13/15 ARE my favorites, with stagg coming close behind them.
Well, I agree with you for the most part on the new drop system. It is a tremendous waste of time and requires more planning and "being in the know" with FB groups and what not. People can also hoard the good bottles by getting lucky and visiting a bunch of stores. Before with the drop system, all the good bottles went to all different individuals. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@CapitolBourbon yeah, personally i wish at a minimum they did a hybrid of the two. like every case of allocated pull 1/3 of it or 1/2 of it, and put it in the back, randomly with no announcement put the other half out. then 2x a year, like early december for christmas time, and july ish, do an announced saturday drop. that way we still have the community side of it. and we can still get good bottles. oh and only in state people (i live in winchester, near wva, and there's alot of out of staters who come super early, like a day before at my store)
It's nice to actually recognize a bunch of these stores.

Great price on the Stagg and Elmer t lee 👍😉💯
Oh yea, state controlled pricing is great in Virginia. Problem is just finding the bottles to begin with lol! Thank you for watching! Cheers!

I'm out in Herndon and It seems like Arlington gets all of the really higher end Trace products EHT , Stagg etc. I did score a Knob Creek 12 though.

The Uncle Nearest VA pick is 😋
Thanks for letting me know! Next paycheck may have to add that to my collection lol thank you for watching and cheers!
Bro, I wish I could find those more in WA
Some stuff is a bit cheaper in D.C., though a lot of stuff isn't much cheaper after factoring in the 10.25% liquor tax
100%. I learned that this weekend after doing a little hunt in DC. Spoiler alert. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!

What do you want for that bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel? It's one of my absolute favorite bottles

im in southern pa about 20 minutes from the Maryland boarder. it would be awesome to do some hunting with you!

It would be helpful to know what day of week and what time you were in each store.

Look for the new riff single barrel-barrel proof that are 115+ proof, they are hard to find and are the Best 👍😋
Wow mine is 110 proof. Will be looking out for those. Thanks for the info! Thanks you for watching!
Hey! Get out of my area! Jk, great finds, keep up the good work!
Haha yup I see we are both in the NOVA area. It's tough out there lol! Thanks for watching man!!
Trade ya a bulleit cask strength for that 12 year rye 😂😂
How many times a day are you checking a discord? And how many discords are you in lol

Acting like he wasn’t just hauling ass to the store for the stagg and stumbled in lol
