    I literally need to do all this work this weekend on a used civic that I bought. I've got the parts ready to go, but still needed further instruction and help since my knowledge on cars is limited. You're a life saver. Thank you so much!

    Two things I noticed, you didn't show anything about the support bracket near the cat and out of 5 videos on YT that I've found of people doing this, not one has mentioned the proper direction of the exhaust manifold gasket. Protrusions facing manifold or head?

    When an individual who owns one of these Honda vehicles starts installing Aftermarket ignition components, Cap, Rotor, and Wires unless their NGK, your asking for Trouble. Those specific parts I named should be factory parts from Honda. These cars Run and idle the smoothest when you do that.

      agreed, we do have to give the customer both options though. We used to only suggest OEM parts for most all repairs but the price gap has only gotten worse over the last 20-30 years. We offer whats available and educate the customer the best we can on all the brands available, also when we do sell or install aftermarket parts, we are usually choosing from a select group of aftermarket manufacturers and many of them are actual OEM manufacturers. At the end of the day, we agree it is always best to put the exact factory part back on, if still available anyway, sometimes the OE stops making it and we have no choice.

      thank you for watching and commenting, Unfortunately I don't really remember, but im sure we checked them as we always do, when parts are delivered we go through each part number to make sure each one is correct, also now that we do videos we often do prep work up front to save time as these videos make the simple 20 minute job take an hour anway. Also this car take NGM spark plugs and those come pre-gapped and areOEM on most honda's

    Hi somebody could guide me, for Exhaust Manifold we have 3 internal bots into head motor, Bolts what I am doing mention are visible over the minute 17:55, one them it got swept, What I can do, is it easily to extract and change it? I will appreciate so much your help. thanks

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miguel Orozco the bolts at 17:55 are the exhaust manifold to catalytic converters bolts, these can be removed and replaced with straight bolts and nuts if needed, it may be easier to relive the converter and manifold to get a better handle on

    My family had a 2000 civic in Toronto since, well 2000 and we just gave it away to a scrap yard with 250K kms on it for $200. Transmission was close to gone. I wanted to fix it up and make a nice ricer/zippy car out of it but lacked knowledge so.. Question, do you think it can repaired and fined tuned to rev over 7000 and last another 100K?

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      these cars are extremely common on the road and they go so many miles that they are on the road longer then many other cars and it may just be a numbers game, but yes these are very common to need a converter, back in teh day it was our number on converter seller for numerous years, these cars are very easy to diagnose and you can probably do it all yourself with you tube, if it is loud and running fine with no check engine light, then you might just have an exhuast leak

    Can you clean the downstream converter using seafoam?

    • @drippingwax
      @drippingwax 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shouty Kilmer says to add one gallon of lacquer thinner to half a tank of gas. After you drive about 150 miles, the impurities should burn off. He says that if that does not work you can soak it in soapy water, which sometimes works: th-cam.com/video/5icTmYItwiE/w-d-xo.html
      There is also this method of cleaning the cat with boiling acid that you can find in Walmart. You need a tall pot that you do not care about and a hot plate. I was getting P0420 every 50 - 100 miles. I tried this and the code stayed away for over 5,000 miles: ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/restoring-old-catalytic-converters-efficiency-cleaning-method-35264.html

    My 2000 Civic EX catalytic converter is not located on the exhaust manifold.
    And the O2 is not located on exhaust manifold (2;30)
    I have one O2 on Front Pipe, what is this Sensor called?
    And then come the Catalytic Converter with O2 in the center, what is this sensor called?

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      so this video is the Civic LX DX or CX, the EX is slightly different and Honda actually has 4 or 5 versions of the 1.6L engine. Either way the sensors installed in the exhaust on your model are still called oxygen sensors or in later years it is called and air fuel ratio sensor. The first sensor closest to the engine is called upstream and the sensor in or behind the catalytic converter is the downstream sensor, You would ask for or look up oxygen sensor and then it will show you the upstream and downstream, the catalog lookup may ask for the engine code and you can get that off of the sticker on the underside of the hood, it will be a number like D16Y7 D16B5 D16Y8 or D16B5, if you reply with your engine code, I can tell you the part numbers that fit your specific model and which one is upstream and downstream. Also if you need a catalytic converter, make sure to find out what caused teh first one to go bad as they do not go bad on there own, except for rust issues.

      great question, the labor to just remove and replace the converter/manifold is only .8 of an hour. So whatever a shop charges per hour times .8. The real issue is what caused the converter to fail in the first place. The most time is spent verifying if the correct exhaust mixture is entering the converter. A catalytic converter doe not fail on its own except if it rusts through. 99% of the time the converter is destroyed by the engine not properly burning all of the fuel or having excessive oil or coolant entering the cylinders. In fact the most common cause of catalyst failure is raw fuel being dumped into the catalyst. The catalyst is simply meant to have a certain mixture of exhaust gas pass through some specific metals which chemically alter or converts the exhaust gas and makes it less toxic to humans. So if you have a cylinder misfiring, then the spark did not fire completely and some unburned fuel is in the cylinder, that raw fuel is not only not exhaust gas but also very cold compared to burned exhaust gasses. Driving like this for a period of time destroys the catalyst and eventually a check engine light comes on saying inefficient catalyst. If this person just removed and replaced the converter without looking for the "why did my catalyst fail?", then the new converter will have the same fate as the original and no one warranties a converter in this condition, you can recreate the issue and see the catalyst was destroyed from the wrong exhaust mixture entering the converter, Sorry for all the words, I think I had too much coffee just before answering this, bottomline, it is worth paying labor to find and then fix the cause of a failed converter. This car had about $40 of needed tune up parts to correct a spark plug not completely firing and caused a $230 converter replacement need.

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sometimes, depending on what studs you are referring to, the converter had new studs on it, the cylinder head studs where fine and re-used.
