  • I've been making a drawstring bag with hardy geraniums pounded onto the cotton fabric, creating a unique and beautiful design that showcases the natural beauty of the flowers. The bag is also embellished with simple yet elegant stitching, adding a personal touch to the overall look. In this video, you will also get to meet Boo the cat, who makes a delightful entrance that you won't want to miss!

    I love to make buntings, and hang them on the walls under pictures of framed needle work that I have created and also to gift to family and friends, and just people I meet that provide a service in my small community, as a surprise cheering gift of kindness. I love to see your bunting and my first video of your site was the one you did that is hanging in your craft room. I am never disappointed with all your new ideas and chats with us. Please keep at it and take us along on your journeys!!!

    Perennial Geraniums are of my favourite flowers and so clever the way you got the image on the fabric.
    If it is possible could you do a demonstration of this technique.

    So I have many in my garden now.
    Rozanne and Patricia are my favourites.

    Thank you for another lovely video, Marion. I have never heard of hammering flowers before - doesn't it create a stunning imprint on the cloth! 😍 I wonder if pink camellias would work? I might try that tomorrow. How pretty your garden looks with the lovely bunting. Hello Boo! 👋You are a lovely fluffy girl. My old boy, Cheeky Puss is quite chatty in his old age too. 😊

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely have a go Leanne. Just experiment with different flowers and leaves. It's surprising sometimes which ones make good Imprints. If you want the cloth to be colour fast for washing you'd have to treat the fabric with alum or soy milk first. I'm not particularly bothered if the print fades over time and usually I just want to print something there and then! Maple leaves are particularly good....and peony petals too. Let me know about the camellias. I don't have any here but I'd be interested to know.😊

      @@marionsworld24 I might have to try it with violas. There’s not much flowering here besides calendulas and the native wattle and gum trees here at the moment. I’ll check out some tutorials. Thank you ☺️

      @marionsworld24  ปีที่แล้ว

      Violas will work beautifully. The calendulas too .you might need to take the petals off the flowers and arrange them separately to look like a flower. Sometimes there's too much 'juice' in the middle which can spoil your pattern. But it's all experimentation and even the bits you think are not so good will be pretty to use on something 😊
      Enjoy it and let me know how you get on ☺️I'll be doing some pounding tomorrow if it's a sunny day.

    Unless you’ve already done one (I’m coming in late) could you demonstrate whatever you did to ‘hammer’ in the geranium pattern? I’ve never heard of that technique and can’t imagine what you are talking about.
    Incidentally, my Mum especially, but the rest of us caught her bag making bug, and make bags for everything. We called them ‘cosies’, like tea cosies. A lot them were fitted for things like street directories or camping chairs and often made of vinyl or other fabric dad brought home from work. In the old days, buttoned or flaps tucked into matching bands but the last few years with Velcro tabs.
    And I was very pleased with myself last month when I reorganised my sewing room and made a little ironing station that fitted in a drawer - except for the iron. So I made a cosy out of left over dark green fabric that matched the newly painted thrifted bookcase, complete with a sewn in cork base in case the iron was hot. Now it sits camouflaged in the corner of the bookcase, almost out of sight. Took a while getting around the complicated shape, but I’m really pleased with the result. And now I’m typing in Your delightful accent 😂😂

    Your comment about the ‘sand shoes’ in a drawstring bag, took me back and made me smile, my mum always called them sand shoes, nowadays I expect it would be trainers! Did you have to paint your sand shoes with whitener? It always took ages to dry and one week mum put them under the grill to dry out in time for school, but as I’m sure you guessed they got brown lines from being in the grill too long🤣lucky it wasn’t a gas grill ! Lovely watching you ❤

    can you tell us again the name of that lovely blue flower; some kind of geranium I think. Also, where can we buy the Inktense paint sets ? My buntings by the way are made of beaded felt hearts that I put a yo-yo, or Suffolk puff in the center and also bead, and hang on ribbons with tiny bow strings. Maybe one day I will joint pintrest to show others.

      It's a hardy geranium called Gravetye. Lots of lovely blue flowers over the summer. Inktense blocks should be easily found online. They're made by a company called Derwent. They do Inktense pencils, blocks or paint pans.

      Yes. Just in a bowl of warm water. I make sure the cotton is wet first, put a teaspoon of alum in the bowl and mix it round, then add the cloth. Soak for an hour or so before drying. The colours are slightly different. It's worth just experimenting to see what effects you can get.

    I have questions. I’m just now learning embroidery, slow stitching etc…what is your advice for me. Also you made a statement in one of your videos about getting started or you will never have a finished piece, how was that said? Also how did you do the process of the flowers in your fabric? Will it wash out or come off?

    • @marionsworld24
      @marionsworld24  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Vicki. Welcome to my channel. I think the best advice I have is just to dive right in and just enjoy whatever you do. It really is as simple as that. I think what you referred to is that sometimes people are so worried about doing something wrong or making a mistake that it stops them even starting. That can be in anything... I just expect to make mistakes sometimes, that's part of learning, so you just pick up your needle and thread and try something. See what happens. And try not to compare yourself with others. You don't know how long they've been practicing so they're at a different stage. As soon as you do your first piece of anything you have more experience than the ones who are put off.
      The hammered flowers do fade a bit, but using treated fabric helps with that. I haven't washed it though so I can't say about that ☺️
