    This series is really necessary ... showing the options of this item by explaining them to someone who is obviously out of his element here is plain brilliant and most likely the best way to make it all clear.
    Taking Kiana in for that is probably the best way to get more subscribers lol

    I’m appalled and hurt! A wonderful set of videos that are well thought out and will help thousands of musicians (even those who don’t have a Boss ES-8), 56K views, but only 700 likes? C’mon folks, share the love!

    Great video, The BOSS ES-8 sounds super powerful and flexible. Good job on the addition of Kiana to the video. She obviously can be our voice in the video and ask questions for us. Both of y'all ROCK !!!

    This is the best explanatory video that I've seen of any complex product anywhere. It answers questions before I'd even formed thought of them... and - as a male of the species - would probably be too embarrassed to ask if I walked in to my music store. Not only that... but if I were courageous enough to walk in to my music store to ask the questions, the likelihood is that no one would have been able to answer them. It's a great format that only my Germanic friends could get away with. Thanks both... and just to say, I was considering buying one, but now I've bought one as a result of this video.

    I think the way you use to explain us all this stuff is clear enough to reach a general idea of what these loopers do. Thanks so much, if not for your time (because I think you earn something by doing all this video, as "youtuber"), for the great passion you show!

    I am so thankful for your inclusion of the young lady who is helping to keep you discussing the features in its most basic terms! You have a unique appreciation for explaining the technical , complicated information one step at a time , I am not even a guitarist but I am seeing this switcher and trying to imagine having effects loops for my synthesizers effects processors . My older yamaha o1v mixer just does not have enough effects loops for all my processors to be -in use . My immediate concern would be,,,,,,," can this switcher have enough stereo returns and sends " ( because all synths effects are stereo pairs ) (left and right) , I think you are really smart and entertaining most of the other people on-line doing tutorials are really good at putting us to sleep and the info sharing,,,,,,,,,, NOT SO MUCH !!!!!! I enjoyed the namm coverage I really liked your enthusiasm when you met Tim Pierce and had Mr. Freidman do your camera work ,How crazy is that!!!!! I also want to comment on your playing style : very extensive, varied and exceptional !! You are doing a great service to all of us who are not such accomplished "GEARHEADS" but want to advance our skill sets ONE STEP AT A TIME !!!! Thanks Again

    For anyone thinking about buying a Boss ES8, you should consider the following:
    If you don't already have them, and want gas tight soldered connections, expect to add Square Plug connectors with a thin guage cable like the Mogami 2319 (which is industry standard but 47pf per foot capacitance which is a little high especially if you are off-boarding any effects of using a large number of pedals all at once) . You can use right angle connectors on the bottom row such as those from Switchcraft or Neutrik deepening on your board slot spacing, but not on top. The arrangement of the connectors on the back of this pedal make it almost impossible to hook it up easily without burning real estate or enduring the additional cost of new cables. Even if you use Switchcraft 350 short barrel 1/4" connectors on top you will be taking up a decent amount of pedal real estate behind the ES8. So you do need very small connectors and serious pro pedalboard builders will not usually use not solder connectors due to long term performance based on simple environmental corrosion and oxidation. You may not notice but if you could A/B the difference over time you'd be amazed. Final note is that pancake connectors other than the "square plug" or small 1/2 shell connectors are absolutely out.
    This consideration should be mentioned as you should budget $150-200 extra. You cannot use Square Plug connectors with standard cable so you will need a thinner cable like the Mogami mentioned earlier... a financial drawback. Side connections for expression pedals or switches could have created a lot more space in the back.

    This was really eye opening. To be be honest I own 5 pedals, 4 of which are some type of distortion, but I might get one of these.
    I can see some serious possibilities with my amps, pods, synths, drum machines, recording software.
    I'm going to have to buy some more cables.

    Awesome videos! - bought an es8, configured it with your help and love it! There is no way I would have figured it out in any depth without your videos, the manuals are brutal. Hope Boss listens to your feedback around simplification - a better menu system and mobile app would decrease the learning curve and improve the experience big time (boss should look at the eventide h9 mobile interface as an example of good UI). That said, there are so many awesome capabilities in this system that it outweighs any negatives. Thanks Boss and thank you!

    Now, this really is the best series regarding loopers I encountered. From all the loopers out there I seriously think about getting an ES-5 or ES-8. Not sure what is sufficient for me, as I would be content with ENGL Invader Amp switch (4 channels, plus hi gain boost option) and some pedals. I tend to have a basic rock / metal board while playing live. Keep it simple...

    I have a control question I can't figure out.
    I have a Fender red-knob twin, which has a 2-button footswitch to (1) change the channel and (2) turn reverb on an off. The footswitch uses a TS cable, not a TRS cable, so I think switching is handled through a logic circuit in the amp. Is there any way to use the ES-8 for switching?
    Thanks for your help. I love your videos.

  • @jackwilson7520

    Can you use channels 7 and 8 as standard mono loops if you want to ? Or does it HAVE to be stereo pedals. I need 8 loops for 8 pedals but don’t use stereo pedals. So I don’t want to buy it, if it means I can only use loops 1-6.

    I have everything together to connect a Boss Sy-200 and a Nova system to loops via a Boss Es-5 and also via Midi..then there are 3-4 effects..Maybe I'll do two loops, each with 2 effects. .
    Yesterday I had to buy a power supply, midi cable and flat patch cable, now I have everything together and have been gathering concentrated expertise for a week.
    I NEVER do something with Midi ...but i have to find out otherwise i loose so much kapbilities of the Se-5

    Very educational video! Love it! But can you HELP me?!? I love my ES-8, but I have problem - Left output of my ES-8 is about 20db lower than the Right output. Cables are fine - checked that! But I can`t even out both output levels on the same level (I run my line outs directly into DAW). Any ideas what to do? ...I also tried to run loop8 in mono, and then it kinda evens out, but I can`t run loop8 return in stereo.

    I am considering this looper but I want something to work with my Carvin V3M which uses a FS44l footswitch. That footswitch changes this ---> Ch3-->Ch 1/2-->Reverb-->Boost all through a midi connector. I was considering the PXL Live or the PXL Pro and using the voodoo labs Control Switcher to convert from midi to 1/4 TSR. Question 1: Would the ES-8 do the job of the VL Control switcher so I don't have to buy it? Question 2: If I would still buy it, VL Control switcher, would you recommend the Joyo PXL pro and if so does that work well with a volume pedal? Please help me figure this out because my brain is about to explode. Thanks.

    Desperate here - using 4 cable method with Marshall JVM 410H. Verified cable connections twice and all cables working. Verified Vol Loop is activated. Can not get any sound when JVM FX Loop is turned to 100% wet. When dialed back, I get full volume from amp but can not hear any effect after the Vol Loop in the FX chain. Moving the Vol Loop after a given pedal then allows that effect to be heard. It is as if the Vol Loop is not activated, but it is. Anybody have any ideas?

    Hi, i´m new here. I have a question. I´m using two different amps( Peavey classic 60 vtx and a Vox ac15Hw1x) through the Boss es8 for the ultimate stereo sound when using modulations, when both amps are connected by the ES8, both amps start to humm, as if the´s a earth/ground issue, when i play them separately they sound fine. Each amp runs on a separate power supply which comes directly from the mains fuse box and I have even gone as far as to check the phase on both amps and es8 power supply. I´m running all my pedals through a t-rex fuel tank chameleon power supply, Boss MD500,RV500,OD200,CS3 and es8, could that be an issue?? Cheers

    Does anyone know if there's a way to run a parallel chain to the main chain on the ES-8? I'm trying to use my volume pedal to control only the volume of my Freeze pedal loop rather than the volume of all the loop levels? I could chain the volume pedal and Freeze together in the same loop I suppose but that seems clunkier than a parallel chain. I don't a diagram in the ES-8 manual for what I'm trying to do. Thoughts?

      April Arredondo do you need to be able to switch the position of the gate? If not I'd probably go guitar> ns input> ns send> ES8 in> es8 to amp> fx loop send > Es 8 > Ns2 return> ns2 output> fx loop return. Hope this is helpful. I'm not super familiar with the ES8 but this would be my approach.

I'd like to have a bank for each song and with clicking banks up and down kind of scrolling through the songs. Or does the banks have no name but only the presets? Hey man, great videos. Could you please clarify something for me? I would like to use it with a board that I will be running sometimes with a dirty amp or a Kemper (so, some pedals in the FX loop) and other times in front of a clean amp. My idea is to have a patchbay mounted on the side of the board with all the conections. My question is: I can wire everything up, with an out to the FX Loop, but occasionally program it so that I can use the board with a clean amp withou an FX Loop, running everything into the front? Not sure if I made myself clear. Thanks! Cheers from Brazil

    I have one of these ES-8's and the power and flexability of it are wonderful! BUT I have a ground/buzz/noise issue when using the 'FOUR Cable Method" I have a custom build tube amp that is whisper quiet for high gain metal, top notch Planet Waves cables, and a bundle of pedals. If I unplug any of the Vol/Loop cables or the amp lead itself the ground goes away. I have tried pretty much every trouble shooting trick out there to no availe. should I be using balanced cables for the loop? should I get an "HE-2" it seems that this FCM should be able to work for players with our this buzz/noise routine? any help would be awesome!

    • @thesphericalguy9018
      @thesphericalguy9018 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need some type om transformer to take care of that, like the humdinger from the gigrig. Using the 4CM is always susceptible to ground loops.

    • @Curranproducer
      @Curranproducer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did finally get it sorted out quite well. I ended up ordering an EbTech HEB-2 hum eliminater. it has the two in and two out with the isolated transformers and that helpped a bunch. BUT I also purchased the truetone CS12 power supply. and that cleaned up the rest of the noise. so with that I am powering 6 front end pedals, a whammy pedal, the eventide H9, AND the ES-8 all off of the CS12. My only bummer is I cannot also power my Avalanche Run from Earthquaker. it requires 450mA's and I am out of the hi power outs on the CS12.

    Can it switch between two amps simultaneously using different combinations of loops? It would be great if I could switch between my amp using the Boss and decide which effects are they running. For instance I don't want to use any delay or reverb on my drive amp, but want some chorus or tremolo, but when I'm switching to clean amp I use any kind ofe delays etc. Can you tell me if it can do it Please? :) Regards

    Hi mate, love your videos. I'm seriously looking at buying the ES 8, the only thing putting me off is, my band, we sometimes change our set list, how easy is it to change the patch order without having to redo them all? Can I connect to a PC and change the order of them there?

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Psychic Beginner no, there is no editor for it, which sucks... copying the banks is also a pain in the ass... if you are changing he sets around often, I cannot recommend this switcher.

    What do you think about the prices for factory based (not boutique) products should be like ?

    • @Deaddinoproductions
      @Deaddinoproductions 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The closest comparable thing to this is the Gigrig G2 which costs like $1700. So the es8 is a relative steal. Considering there's nothing else in existence that can do what it does for the price , I'd say the price is fair. $700 still isn't pocket change for most of us... I waited til I could find a sale and picked it up for $540.

    Hi, thx for the tutorial(s)! Would be awesome if you could answer me the following question in the course of the ES-8 midi tutorial: What if I want to controle 3 or more pedals via midi but more than 2 of those don't have a midi thru/out? Do I need a midi splitter or something for that case? Also I will need to set up every midi controlled pedal with a different midi channel right? But what if a pedal reacts to every midi channel? Like some pedals (or also midi controllable amps) do only react to midi channel 1 but some react to every midi channel you send.

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max Krüger Midi Splitter YES... There are several available.. I have one from G-Lab.... as for a pedal that ONLY accepts every channel... hmm... haven't heard of that yet.. that obviously can cause a problem if you want several pedals on the same output.

    • @maxkruger1339
      @maxkruger1339 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +EytschPi42 Thx! Actually the midi channel thing is a real problem. For example the Amp1 by Bluguitar only reacts to midi channel 1 and actually somone in the "Musiker-Board" said that the TC Alter Ego reacts to every channel....so when I plan a ES-8 board that is actually something I have to think about....

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Max Krüger ONLY channel 1 is not a problem as long as other devices are flexible as far as channels go... I just downloaded the ALTER EGO X4 manual and checked for you... YES, it will receive on all channels and apparently you cannot change that... that is EXTREMELY stupid and means you can never have this in a daisy chain..... UNLESS.... it only has 3 presets... so it won't react to program changes higher than 3... as long as you other pedals... like TIMELINE and so on... are getting HIGHER program changes, the alter ego won't change... so just reserve a separate channel for the alter ego and make sure that all other patches are always higher than 3 and it should be fine. Still stupid by TC!

    • @maxkruger1339
      @maxkruger1339 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +EytschPi42 So that actually means that it's not possbile to use Amp1 (reveives only on channel 1) and the Alter Ego X4 (receives always to Channel 1,2 and 3) at the same time in a midi daisy chain. One more reason to look forward to you Boss DD 500 in depth demo^^" And thx man, you really don't have to check the manual for me....mach dir doch keinen Stress :P! Language skipping fucked mich übrigens echt ab =D.

      +EytschPi42 This is sad, I used to "cheat" the loop in my GT with direct mix option and using the second output of my guitar into the return for a clean blend. Its a bit of a mess to set up now that I have actual tube amps and different overdrives.

  • @gregs6424
    @gregs6424 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    First off, thank you for your in-depth reviews! Great stuff! I have a question that you might be exactly the expert to ask. You mentioned that you can assign the switches on the ES-8 to do pretty much anything. So my question is, can you assign one of the switches to become a momentary button that holds the trails infinitely for a delay pedal, only while holding down the switch? For example, I have an Eventide H9 pedal that I only use for delays in loop 6 of the ES8. I then want to program button/switch number 8 on the ES-8 so that when I hold my foot down on it, the delay trails in the H9 change to 100 percent feedback (infinite trails). Then when I release the button (switch 8 on ES-8), the delay trails return to the parameter they were initially programmed to in the H9’s bank. Is this possible? Thank you in advance for your help and rock on.

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it is quite a challenge to do that, but you should be able to send a MIDI message to the H9 that changes that parameter. You could also possibly do it by using the H9s EXP pedal function and see if you can send EXP pedal info to the H9 with the footswitch. I am not 100% sure you can switch the footswitches to momentary, but I kinda think this should be doable.
      Don't ask me exactly how to do it.
      But can you do it? I think so.

    • @gregs6424
      @gregs6424 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      EytschPi42 thanks for the response! I think I may have to go with a good ol’ Boss FS-5U plugged directly into the expression jack on the H9. I have used this switch before with a timefactor for this infinite trails effect. Worked great! Thinking it should work the same way with the H9. I hope.

    Can i use a dual expression pedal for two different pedals; or one channel for total pedal volume control. the manual on the es-8 has two exp in; two outs plug 4 control. NOT CLEAR IF th cv outs and exp out is dedicated to what its plugged into ! Why not have expression inputs be assigned to the different pedals that support exp. pedals; but fed thru the es-8 rather than the exp input on each specific pedal. the exp pedal does different thinks to my pitchfork vs tremelo box, perhaps a volume control. But the ES-8 does not seem to have that now; only two exp out; vs being able to supply Qty-8; outputs if you had 8 pedals to support that. OK. next version of the ES--8A !!

  • @MrRich6505
    @MrRich6505 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Burning question man, if I have the es5 and have 5 dirt boxes in each loop going straight in the front of my amp and an H9 (not connected to the es5) running straight into the FX loop of my amp, but only connected to the es5 by a midi cable... Could I still control the H9 and assign effects to my banks? It seems like the H9 would also be activated and on, therefore always having an effect. Or could I engage and disengage the H9 via the midi of the es5. Phew...... Hope you understood that. Thanks man. This one is killing me.

    • @EytschPi42

  • @NoBSMusicReviews
    @NoBSMusicReviews ปีที่แล้ว

    Cable lengths are LONGER with the Es8! They have to be - you're running a separate set of cables to each unit - this perforce uses more cable than a daisy chain! Other than that, great video.

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that’s not correct.
      A Daisy chain always uses all the cables, but with the switcher you are nobly using the cables in the chain of the pedals that are currently engaged and you will never have all of them on.

    EytschPi42 there is so much info packed into these videos that I find myself wishing there was an index with time signatures so I can jump to certain things. I find myself thinking about the ES-8 ( a couple weeks away from being in my hands and on my board) and how I'm going to use it then remember you discussed it in one of the longer videos in the series but have no idea where it was.
    At this particular moment I"m trying to figure out if I can add a Loop Expander into the volume send and return (assuming all of the pedals in the Expander are mono). I"m thinking about doing this for gain stacking pedals. I want to avoid giving up any of the 8 loops so I can use them for modulation pedals and be able to run them parallel.
    I'm gonna give the video another watch as I'm sure you're busy and I can't wait to know until you have an opportunity to answer. :)

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you could put that in the Volume loop, can't see why not!

    • @PackinForSuperbowl
      @PackinForSuperbowl 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +EytschPi42 Thank you! It occurred to me after I wrote that question that I'll need the volume pedal i/o to use the fx loop in my amp as I will be using the gain stages of my 6505+ quite a bit for METAL. I also don't think I'll be able to move OD's around (or would I?) putting them all in the Loop Expander. I've got a wicked case of paralysis by analysis. I'll make sure I wait at least 24 hours (and actually have the damn switchers) to give my brain a chance to process before posting anymore questions lest I look like an attention whore. ;-)
      Cheers

    Sag mal Henning, kann man eigentlich mit einem Looper auch dem Looper sagen, dass ich meinen Chorus lieber im Fx Loop haben will? Bisher sieht das für mich immer so aus, dass man alles vor dem Amp hat. Für mich gehört ein Delay in den Loop und nicht vor den Amp.
    Und super interessantes Video mit Kiana :-) "Jugend forscht" ;-)

      Es gibt looper die können mit FX Loop... um Beispiel 4 Loops vor dem Amt und vier im Loop. Beim ES acht geht das auch, aber man kann die Position dann sogar verschieben... also mehr Effekte in den Loop schieben oder wieder raus.... total geil.
