Her vibrato alone is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, not to mention all the rest of her artistry and skill. Super glad you finally got introduced to her!
Random notes, since I can't pass up watching another Laufey reaction vid: that scat solo is the same as most of her other performances, but she does improvise on other instruments in live performances. I'd say her live performances are "jazzier" than the album stuff, but it is all great. She does say she prefers a a very dry sound in her recorded vocals and rarely uses reverb, to confirm something you mentioned earlier. Chet Baker is also one of her favorite artists!
I'd qualify her as quite well known by now. As in actually getting plenty of mainstream radio and streaming play time even though she's quite definitely Jazz-leaning. Plenty of mainstream TV and media coverage too. She won the Grammy this past year for Best Traditional Pop Vocal album, and while its not surprising she didn't get nominated for the bigger categories, it also wouldn't have been shocking if she HAD been. You definitely have to look up performances where she plays Cello (her main instrument).
Variety's review of Laufey's performance at the Hollywood Bowl headline read: "Laufey Feels Like She Was Born to Play the Hollywood Bowl, With a Rapturously Received Pop/Jazz/Classical Set". Backed by the LA Philharmonic, the concert sold out in minutes.
I’ve been a fan of hers for the best part of the last couple of years, even got the chance to see her with the LA Phil last year. She’s amazing and definitely one of my new favorites. I particularly love her symphonic albums (the one with the Iceland Orchestra and the newest one with the LA Phil), so I’d suggest you to check those out. Fragile may be a great starting spot.
Not sure if you mentioned this in the video, but if you haven't discovered already, she has an identical twin sister who is also a musician. I think she mostly plays violin, but I presume she sings some too.
A fun interview with Laufey where she talks about some of her favorite music and musical influences (a lot of classic jazz, not surprisingly!): th-cam.com/video/hFefl21UMBQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3cE0WKGfibBFK6oF
Try Dodie old devil moon, then try laufey,Dodie&Jacob collier wild mountain thyme also laufey from the start at the same gig and Jacob and Dodie summer rain. Amazing! all three at one show, wow. ❤❤❤
Do you know anything about Ado? Many people think that she #1 vocalist in Japan, but I think she is #1 in the entire world. Can you check her "Show" for the start? I asked it because it is very deep rabbit hole. She only 22, but already has ~150 songs)/.,./

This is from her second album "Bewitched". It's a great album from start to finish. One of my favourites of recent years.

I discovered her about a year ago and love everything she does. She's very far out of my regular wheelhouse of music, but I love it. It's perfect

her whole album bewitched is a must react!!! Hope to see it soon
Hey you HAVE to do more songs from her, maybe Goddess or her Tiny Desk Concert, she really is a gifted artist.
Congrats on the great video
Check out Laufey's "What's In My Bag" at Amoeba Records where she buys a Chet Baker album. Good stuff.
Her scatting is in the album track too, so she may have improvised here and kept it for the studio recording as well.

She's classically trained and a Berkelee graduate.
