    POST-TRIP UPDATE! The trail was AMAZING and I highly recommend it!
    - I would have liked one more pair of socks. All of my gear stayed super dry but after 4 days in rain/snow, my boots soaked through. I just used a turkey bag on each foot with my sleep socks for the last day. Not ideal but better than wet!
    - I did not fly the drone as much as I thought. I could have used only 1 battery. That would have saved some decent weight!
    - My food amount was perfect for me on this trek, but mostly because my hiking partner didn't finish all of hers, so I ate some of her leftover dinners and snacks she didn't want to carry.
    - I really liked the Li tent, but for one person I would maybe do the Zpacks Duplex since it takes up less volume and no poles. But it's a great tent and I'll probably try using it again by borrowing it from my dad.
    - I liked having strap-on sandals in the river crossings. One person almost lost a croc sandal when crossing.
    - My Arc'teryx jacket performed AMAZING. There are others lighter than the Beta SV but this thing is TOUGH and guaranteed dryness, which is what I wanted. I used it everyday.
    - The couple times we tried the solar power, there wasn't much sun at all. Only our last day had sunny skies. So this is hard in Iceland, I'd probably just bring a second smaller 5k-10k battery instead.
    - I did not miss having a lens above 70mm. I used the 24-70 the most but was glad I had a wide as well. The hills are big enough that 100-400 would have been unnecessary imo, especially with hazy atmospheres.
    - Even though there is often a lot of wind in Iceland, my smaller tripod setup worked great, using my bag or rocks to stabilize when needed. I LOVE this TFC-14.
    - I did use the drone batteries and USB adapter to charge phones on our last day as we enjoyed the evening resting!
    - I really like the Pocket Rocket card holder. While outdoors, I like to be sure my cards won't fall out when I access them.
    Thanks for watching! What trail should I do next?!

      That's probably the most valuable comment and info.
      Are you considering doing a post- trip video?
      Iwould love to know what was the final weight of the backpack (all incl) and what could have been the weight without all unnecessarities (according to your post-comment)?
      Regards Brian

      @@briandelacruz3631 Thanks for your comment, I’m not planning on doing a follow up video but that’s why I made this follow-up comment to give some feedback. From memory, I think my final weight was about 37 pounds or 38 pounds since I had so much camera gear. I did leave some items with our shuttle driver that I didn’t need on the hike, like a clean pair of clothes for afterward

    I would strongly recommend putting your quilt/ sleeping bag at the very bottom of the pack and also use an HMG pod for that item too.

    Just came back from 3 weeks in Iceland , did the laugavegur plus Fimmvörduhals Pass to skogafoss and after that hike i went to Hornstrandir Nature Reserve in the Westfjörds.
    What i can say about Layers :
    Wool is the Best in the Highlands. No other layer kept me warm as my AppGear Alpaca Sweater and a iceland sheep wool jumper i bought there .
    Synthetic cant even come close to the warmth

      Of course…indigenous peoples have been using natural fibres for thousands of years to keep warm. If someone really believes synthetic is better then they are gravely ignorant…

    Very nice video. I´m optimising my back packing gamera setup and I have a question on the Hyperlite Camera pod Large. I have a Sony A7R III but have an L-bracket installed to the camera that adds a bit more bulk to the camera height and width. Will it properly fit the camera pod?
    And what is the brand/model of black lens pouch with the roll top closure that you are showing. It looks to be just what I´m looking for.

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is doable! I also have an L bracket on my A7RV at the moment and it fits inside. It's a little bit tighter to get your hand in but it hasn't bothered me.
      That is a Matador pouch but they do not sell it anymore. I started using wraps now anyways. They are faster and I just pad lenses around with other items.

    What is your opinion on the internal frame and lack of load adjusters

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Internal frame has never bothered me nor have I even thought about it really. I thought I would like the option to remove the stays but they work really well and also keep a slight curve to the bag where it’s on your back.
      I’m of the opinion that load adjusters only make up for bad sequenced packing or over packing by weight. I’m not using this bag so I can haul 60lbs. I’ve picked it for it’s unmatched toughness and waterproofness to keep my life supply safe. Maybe for other load lifters might be important.
      I’ve not used every bag out there, but this is by far the one I’ve used the most. The only only thing is my back sweats more than other bags but I’ve chosen to deal with that to get all of the other benefits! 👍🏻

    Hi who is the hip belt and lumbar padding of the hmg Northrim? Do they grip and transfer weight effectively on the iliac crest without sagging during hiking?

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they have great grip and I shift the weight off and on my shoulders throughout the day. You can easily carry the full 39lbs I had for this trip just off the hip straps.
      Their newer bags now have a removable hip belt now too

    Was one 2-person meal enough for you two to split as supoer?

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was a light or medium day, and we had a hefty lunch, we usually split the dinner meal, but my partner only ate about 30 or 40%, so I the rest and usually add it in Raman or crackers. For heavier days, I appreciated my own pouch to eat. But it is a lot of food.

    Thermarest Neoair what? Topo? Xtherm? Impressive kit.

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  ปีที่แล้ว

      For this trip, and when I need to spay warm, I use the Neoair extherm. It is pretty loud when you move around, but I’m a side sleeper, so I pump it up very full. It has an R-value of about 7.3, and that helps me to stay more warm.

    Did I miss you talking about your cook system?
    What did you use to get hot water? Even if your hiking partner was carrying it

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think I mentioned it since it was in my partners bag! We took the MSR Pocket Deluxe and bought gas at the local gas station. Actually the gas station had only large tanks so we went to the outdoor store and got a small tank.
      We then mostly used the clean water at the huts which you are free to use if you’re paying to camp.
      So we boiled water that way for our dinners. I love the MSR Deluxe with pot combo. Very small and light, but sometimes needs wind protection.

    No knife or multi tool?

    • @jesmor3
      @jesmor3  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually don’t check my bag so a knife gets left out. There are no trees, no fire building, and not *too* trouble to get into on this trail. With less hut locations I’d bring a multitool
