A highly polished performance by Red Dot and Chan. They have a deep understanding and appreciation of Vivaldi's music and I think they are among the world's best at performing it.
What a beautiful clear countertenor. Warm and powerful. Perfect voice. I listened to many countertenors who sing the same song, and there are only a few who moved me deeply. Alex Potter...James Bowman and yours.
Singapore surprises always with its marvellous and gifted students. Therefore, it is no wonder to see Singaporean musician talents playing amazing baroque interpretations. Thank you. 👏👏👏🎼🎶🎻🎻
All of you are right, but my intention was just put the attention about the bunch of so good countertenors there are today. You remember (... I remember. I am an old fashioned guy) many years ago, countertenors were Alfred Deller and few more. And they were not so good as today's countertenors. I did no name any sopranist man (I love that timbre voice): Radu Marian, for example. About this, I was listening Agrippina (th-cam.com/video/0K-l5bo7GBs/w-d-xo.html) and the role of Nerone is played by Bruno de Sá, a sopranist... too much, folks!
Beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous. A bit too much vibrato for me, though, but everyone's taste is different. There were also moments where his voice hit like a brick wall into notes with immediate, intense vibrato that felt a bit abrupt during points of this piece. Certain runs didn't flow well, but this is perhaps a stylistic choice. I'm quite biased since my favourite renditions of Cum Dederit are when singers lean slowly into notes with vibrato that intensifies the longer the note is held. It's just personal preference. I also found his choice of breath rests quite interesting, as it's somewhat unconventional for this song.
Quelle belle découverte! Certes, Jaroussky, Scholl et autres fameux artistes lyriques. Mais pourquoi ce contre ténor est-il aussi confidentiel ? Quel dommage!
Very clear sound and purity of emission! Adequately colored, for a dramatic expression. What a pity that irrelevant elements are portrayed in the "staging" such as the whole saga with the letter... such a waste of emotions. A more still posture would make the appearance impeccable.
The out-of-tune long note starting around 1:22 spoiled the whole thing for me…. :/ There are a few other places that are a little out of tune as well… Otherwise it shows such great promise!
Wow! I have yet to hear a counter tenor to match his level. His clarity, purity & registration leaves one wanting.🥂

I've listen to this video three times in a row and I could do it ten times more.
He has a beautiful voice and music very beautiful thank you

Quelle subtilité et quelle délicatesse ! Magnifique.
Mesmerizing rendition! It seems to me that I can't stay without this hereafter. Many thanks.
I am italian.
I am glad that we share the same culture.
I like the No theather, for exemple, and the kabuky drums.
We are one world, one nation!
Was für eine wunderschöne Stimme mit dem auch sehr guten Orchester im Hintergrund!!!😊
Oh, wow. What purity of tone. I have found a new favourite countertenor.
Thank you!
I agree. He is good!
But then again the musicians are in the same league.
Absolutely stunning. The best interpretation I have heard.

I've listened to a lot of countertenors, and I feel compelled to comment here that Chan Wei En is extraordinary. I hope to hear a lot more from him.

How in the hell can you dislike this performance!!
PERFETTO

What's this long instrument called ?! Impressive !
Theorbo.

Are you a singer yourself? Or a voice coach?
Nice. I didn't like the choice of rests for breaths. Very good.
I agree. Definitely unconventional for this piece.

He's made a killing. It willll be impossible to sing this again

It has a lot to do
with breathing technique . . .
.
Yes, you're right. I wasn't fond of that either. Great promise, he's almost there. My benchmark is James Bowman.
very rushed
very good. And I love this trend of a video being made of a simple piece
next to this caprino, a Mosquito is Birgit Nilsson. what a small voice. how it Shakes.
