    14" looks really perfect to the eye! Great job! Though this is an older vid, I'd want to say that I love this kind of customizing, repurposing video's and I'd love to see more old tools getting the respect of refurbishing and bringing them back to life! It's almost art!

    I've gained a wealth of knowledge from this channel. Furthermore, the Wranglerstar clan portrays these skills in a way where I also have the wisdom to apply the valuable lessons learned. If I could only have on channel on youtube, without a shadow of a doubt, I'd choose this one. Mr. Cody, you're the awesome Uncle that we never had. Thank You Wranglerstar Family.

    I'm so excited for my son to be working along side me like yours. I enjoy every precious moment of his young life and I know I'll have plenty of skills to pass down for having watched your videos. Thanks so much for what you do, don't listen to those nay sayers. I say aye, you're a wise man.

    I have grown to enjoy watching (and learning from) your videos. You're teaching the viewers a bunch, but my favorite parts are when you and your son (I think?) something. In this video, I really like seeing the concentration you both give to the tasks at hand. If you were to measure how far that particular apple fell from your branches I imagine there's be little to no daylight between the two of you. Thanks for sharing. Mike

    You know, a lot of the time when I feel overwhelmed, and just want to be reminded of the simple goodness of what it is to be a human being, I watch you or your sister's videos, and it helps to remind me that we make the world around us better, if we're doing our job, day by day. Just tends to help with the burn out. Thanks.

    On the first video you said words to the effect of - If you were gonna make it, it needed to be perfect - and the you showed the grain orientation of the wood you chose and then said something like - this is good, this "acceptable" - I'm so happy you changed your mind and went with perfect! still it is Wranglerstar i'm watching, I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from you, I hope Dave is happy, I know I would be. Nice work Cody. looking forward to part 3. Thanks.

    My favorite the sound of the remaining cut off existing handle as you drove it out of the axe head with the dowel. So fine lines for ban saw cuts, sweet details, a real delight to see, also made me happy to see Jack in the shop with you; you can see how he loves and admires you, he's a chip off the ole block.
    Great video. . . blessings,
    Dave: still praying for your child adoption they will be blessed to have a dad like you braugh & a mom like your beloved Misses W/S

    A professional as always. I could tell you didn't initially like something when you were hanging the axe the first time by the look on your face.
    Instead of going forward without correcting/adjusting, you went back a step and corrected the issue. I'm glad you showed that. Honestly, people need to be taught more to do it right even if it means taking a step or 2 back to do it the right way.

    This is awesome!!! My brother just found a Norlund "Trailblaizer" double bit axe head in our grandparents basement, it seems to be about the size and profile of your cruiser axe. He's in the process of hanging it now, it's funny that just as I started trying to do research on it, your video came up and told me everything I needed to know about it. Thanks.

    Just a couple thoughts from a woodworker. You might want to try a spokeshave to shape the handle, its much more enjoyable to work with than a rasp and nearly eliminates sanding. If your dealing with lumber with any moisture in it or in a damp climate it may be smart to dry the end of the handle before setting it. Some chairmakers will dry their spindles by a stove prior to fitting and wedging to ensure there won't be shrinkage in the future. Love the channel keep up the good work.

    • @Shitt3r6968
      @Shitt3r6968 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Duncan McLeish yes I have several,

    • @Arfwid
      @Arfwid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Duncan McLeish Got to throw a tip, I just started with making handles for axes and some knives. The first shock I got was HOW MUCH material one can move with a good set of rasps (a flat and a rounded). Sure it will take time and some work, but less than you think. Powertools are expensive I agree and for a novis like myself it might not be worth it yet, but a set of good rasps are. Just last night i shaped a knife handle from a rektangular block of wood to form, with a rasp in just under 2 hours. A good set of rasps in my country (sweden) is about 35$ per rasp, so lets say 80$ for the pair. Which is an investment I know, but in my case completely worth it.
      So if you are getting in to it, a little tip :)
      All the best!

    I found this link called yesteryearstools, and they had a link to Norlund products and had the dimensions for the handles. You were right in going with the longer handle, the original Saddle Cruiser had a 18 1/2" handle on it.

    I've come to you for help because 1). I'm a huge fan and 2). You obviously know what you're doing. As a beginner to the axe world, I've hung my first axe. Unfortunately I've run into a problem. After felling several small trees and splitting some wood, the wooden wedge backed completely out. I believe I used the wrong type of wood for my wedge and would greatly appreciate it if you could enlighten me on which is the proper wood for the job.
    Thanks

    I appreciate this video. JMHO: you sort of skipped over shaping the neck where it goes into the Axe Head...I can't really complain, as any info on this is better than none, BUT, I know how hard it is to get this shape and size correct. I've heard you mention "taking all day to build an axe" and this I think is what your talking about. My Dad used to sell axes and handles at a small hometown type hardware store. I have a few small boy sized double bit axe handles left over from his store with his stores name on them, but I've used all the single bit boys axe handles up...and now I need to either buy one, or make one like you did. In the past, even with a store bought one, you still have to shape the oval that fits into the head...harder than it looks eh? Well, that's where I'm at now...I went camping this summer and banged the handle and broke it...Anyway, if you make another video on how you go about shaping this to fit perfect, please more detail...Love your videos. Sincerely, Brian BTW: I asked my Dad what was the best Axe brand and he said without hesitation, "Collins". But then he hasn't sold axes since 1969.
