2023 National Outdoor Expo - on the search for new 2023 Camping Gear!

- I went to the 2023 National Outdoor Expo at the NEC. It was great to check out the latest 2023 outdoor gear. 2023 camping gear included the awesome rooftop TentBox tents. The Therm-a-rest sleeping pads were tiny and their sleeping bags are really light 2023 backpacking gear. The Vango sleeping pads were really light and compact.

I loved the Lowa Camino Evo GTX hiking boots. These are proper mountain boots but really comfy too. Other new 2023 hiking gear included Salomon boots, Salewa boots and bags, Dynafit gear as well as lots of jackets from different outdoor companies.
I was really impressed with the Vango Wrath backpack but less impressed with the Gregory backpacking bag (Osprey Exos is much better!). The Sierra Designs backpacks were very different. I'd be really interested trying one out.
The Olpro Pioneer backpacking tent looked like a good alternative to the Vango Banshee and OEX Phoxx 2. The Vango Hydrogen Air is ridiculously light at 700 grams but is extremely small!
I would highly recommend buying a Lifesystems First Aid Kit. There are lots to choose from including tiny kits and big mountain leader kits.
As before, there's lots for the kids to do including the zip line and climbing walls. Ben Fogle was there too being interviewed on Stage.
There were lots of smaller stalls from the lessor brands but some some really interesting outdoor gear, much of which I had never seen before!

Flew over from Ireland. Was disappointing the selection for tents. The serra designs stall was more expensive than store price.
I drove from Worcester and was disappointed, let alone flying from Ireland!
The first time I’d been and I guess I expected more.
@@thewalkingsketchbook yeah was disappointing to not see much gear and tents. At least it were only an hour flight and it was at the airport. Don't think I'll be going again.
I was there yesterday too. Was hoping to bump into you as I saw your 2022 video before I went. I did manage to bump into Al from Bushman and Blue though. Very busy there compared to your 2022 video, and strangely lots of alcohol stands ☺️ hope you didn’t spend too much! Rob.

Missed u this year. Was there as well. Enjoyed it more this year than last. Thought there was some really good stuff on show. Can't believe how many different style tent boxes were there. Atb paul
It was much bigger and better than last year. I loved the Tentbox tents! Eye-wateringly expensive but really smart (and comfy too).

Weren't you disappointed by the lack of tents (not car roof tents) on display? I only saw the Vango stand with tents, and only a few at that. For THE Outdoor show of the year, I was super disappointed by how little there was to see. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. Based on my experience yesterday, I'll never go back.
@scrumpymanjack The Valley & Peak had Msr on show, but yeah there were only really vango that had a few. I still enjoyed it though.

Hi Andy, I ride a motorcycle and camp, my question is, I am after a blackout tent with a good size porch for storage of all my gear and occasional cooking. I could do with blackout because I can’t sleep once it starts to get light, probably 3 man would be best.Can you make any suggestions please. Thanks in advance Joel
Eurohike Cairns 3 or Avon 3. Both have blackout with vestibules. I’ve got both, perfect for motorbike camping! They weigh approx 4kg from memory and they’re a reasonable size but ok on a bike.

I went along and was really REALLY disappointed. The only tents on display were Vango. There’s no point pretending it was anything other than terrible.
It was much better than last year, hopefully it will get better each year.

Brilliant Andy I've just bought 3 person extended roof tent from Ventura rooftents based down in Essex paid £750 brilliant peice of kit check them out

Far too far to travel for me I'm afraid. It would be nice if it was held in different locations each year, giving more people the opportunity to visit.
But this has to be the most enjoyable and informative TH-cam of the expo I've seen this year.

Too be honest I was very disappointed in the whole show. Wouldn’t say it was a waste of time, but not far short. Went looking to buy a two man tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and cooking kit. Too be honest very few options……. Ended up buying “highly recommended stuff” I’d already researched.

Good coverage, I tried on one of the Vango rucksack at the show, lovely sack. Not a good fit if you have broad shoulders.

As far as I’m aware it’s the only one of it’s kind at the moment and it’s an annual event.
Hey, look... You mention things that were there for sure, but basically it was sh#t. No big brands, nothing meaty to get involved with. I was shocked at how poor it was. We wanted to shop for a new backpack but there was not one single stand for backpacks, hardly any backpacks at all!. We went into the 1st hall and I thought that the next couple of halls would be where the real meat was. But there was only 1 hall. No big names other than what has been mentioned. Dog poo really

@@BackpackingUKI have calmed down a bit now. It was a shame though. I didn't mind the £10 ticket, but with the parking as well, I think there needs to be more to see. I wanted to check out tents, I had money in my pocket. My mate wanted to check out backpacks and boots, he had money in his pocket. Who knows what else we might have picked up. I did buy some stuff. Not stuff I was looking for. There was quite a bit of space left in the hall too. I'm surprised big brands don't want to get our attention and money by showing their stuff off. It's the outdoor expo, that covers soooo much, but it was so limited.
Maybe Free tickets but still £16 to park. Never worth it.
I think I paid £25 to park at the Motorbike show and it cost about £30 to get in!
I could have watched a hour of this lol😂
I’ll make it longer next year 👍 It was so busy though!
