A well maintained vehicle usually implies enjoyable adventures ahead. No accounting for driver error though lol. Great video you pair. Cheers for sharing.
Hello 😆 you guys should get in touch with a guy called Tim at mits alloy. He builds minty canopies, would probably be able to sort that drawer out for good!
I always thoroughly enjoy the “maintenance day” videos. The lifestyle isn’t always waves and sunsets. It takes work as well. Looking forward to seeing “Oxford 1” in the upcoming video. Cheers from Guam 🇬🇺.
Another handy tip for the draw and chassis. Rub the under side of the draw with a bar of soap. The wax's in the soap keep the draw lubricated. With the chassis. I use a spray product called "fish oil". Readily available from most auto shops like supercheap auto, etc. If I see any minor rust appearing on my chassis I also use a product called "rust coverter". I apply that first then a day or so later spray the fish oil on it. Works a treat 👍
Always love the diversity of your videos , showing all that goes in to over landing the world in your traveling home ,from the bad to the truly great moment’s along the way . you two are inspiring in that you show and help other in there dreams of over landing by these types of videos . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful travel memories with us all your over landing friends . :) :) 🥂😄🍻😁👍🏼👍🏼
I have used the tape on my LC200. Our drawers work frictionless. You may also want to put small tape pieces on the side as well. I had to source it from Amazon USA not available in South Africa.
If he tape and new wood doesnt work maybe tray to fit a piece of hdpe under the drawer. this stuf does not rot or absorbs any water. it is also slippery. teflon strips on the drawer is also a good option.
I wish you guys would get over here to the USA. I would build some slides for that drawer. Cut into the outer structure and relief the slides into it. The tape works ok until it get dirty. Also next time seal and paint that wood it will last alot longer
@@SimonElenor my guess is..they probably didnt want to use rail/track system for the drawer maybe because they didnt want to ruin the flatbed because they often slide their camper when they unload the camper from the vehicle itself hence why they dont use the rail system
Some of your readers might find this helpful. I make slides out of Delrin. Which is commonly used to make inexpensive white plastic type cutting boards. I get the 3/8" or 1/2 inch thick cutting boards at Wal Mart, then use a table saw to rip them into 1 1/2 inch wide strips like you did with the tape. The drill and countersink the bolt holes. They are not quite as good as roller bearings, but will hold a lot of weight, won't swell, and take a lot of abuse. And they beat sliding stuff across flat surfaces by a large margin. I usually attach them to the bottom side of the drawers or slide out battery racks I built for my RV. They can be sprayed with silicone spray or silicon or lithium grease to make them easier to slide, but they will attrack dirt in dusty areas. ( My Battery Rack is undet my RV. so it gets dusty, so I don't spray those.) Having my big solar batteries on a slide out rack has been a game changer for maintenance.
Harex or Teflon is used in airplanes and that works perfectly for a drawer. The tape you're using now resembles Teflon strips used in airplanes. I'm curious how this type of tape will hold up.
Great Video. Informativ and entertaining. If i have something to „slide“ without having the possibility to build a heavy duty pull out solution, i use some kind of acrylic or Teflon material or something like a piece of plexiglas or so. Perhaps worth trying it sometimes. Cool idea with the brake pads. I do this since years at my Mountainbike, but never though of the Defender breaks. Thanks. :-)
Thanks young people for showing your journey, l got my landy gearbox and transfer in a million bits to check for wear. I hope to get out of Victoria next month. Don't lose your 27mm it should fit your wheel nuts perfect if you haven't swapped them out.
If one disc pad is wearing unevenly, then you probably have a sticky brake calliper. Also, the only real long term solution to sticky heavy drawers is to fit rollers.
Great video! Love the great maintenance you provide and the proper and constant inspection, very good. Also always good to clean the camper and maintain it, definitely is therapeutic or pleasant to clean and have things neat and tidy. That drawer looks like a pain in the butt, big and heavy to slide, perhaps some rollers below could help, sacrificing a couple of millimeters in height? Btw that shirt bet helps on hot days mate, keeping you fresh lol. Btw why cutting a little the stairs? Thanks for sharing amazing stuff, keep it up
May I recommend using a marine finish on that plywood that gets damp; I’m currently doing that with one of my trailers where the ply gets wet and works great - I’m using a Norglass product, not cheap up front but the savings will be in the long term performance.
HEY!! You left us hanging on the drawer solution! Did it work? Ive got to see that satisfaction! Love me UMHW and use it in my workshop quite a bit. Throw some silicone or other lubricant on it occasionally and it will serve you well. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all.✌️
I know right. I realised that we haven’t filmed the finish product… and we removed the camper lately… couldn’t really film. but it works the best it ever did. Still heavy but manageable. Even me (stephy) can now open and close the draw.
Hola Leigh Your brakes looks horrible undersized. My recommendation: Ditch them und buy something suitable for you weight. Cheap like chips in AUS. Wood boards…guess you like to replace it regular.. should have bought some 100% water sealed container boards which does not sucks any water and no swelling. But that would be my way of fixing a problem for good Happy days….. Cheers
Plywood! What's that? Haven't seen any in Bunnings for months. I would have thought the brown formwork ply might have given more 'slip'? Might be too thick for your purpose. Cheers Marty from Perth
Love ya channel, but I call BS on the funding of your travels, not really any of my business but travel is pricey and you do a lot of it, IMO you have a very large bank account thanks to family inheritance.
They've shown behind-the-scenes before. He works in a technical-trade from time to time as money needs dictate, traveling to riskier places to work. That kind of work usually pays well so if he's not squandering his wages then he can build-up savings again as needed.
So what even if they have a family inheritance? What has that got to do with anything? Plenty of ways to fund travelling, my wife and I are saving to go travelling and putting in place ways to continue the funding.
Yes. Tenacious Tape is excellent stuff.
Rhino/Raptor line everything!
That Lanolin works pretty good. Be safe.,
27mm Wheel Nuts
Love watching all your videos - excellent content and editing.
Oohhhww... it's drawer! I thought it was a gym machine 😉
You just reminded me I need to grease my prop shafts

Man I love 303 protectant!
That brake caliper needs reparing.
Cheers. 🍺&🍷
Simply love how humble and respectful both of you are.
Seeing old Landrovers like that one at the end I'm always reminded of the film _The Gods Must Be Crazy._

Awesome tip about the UHMW tape! was going to suggest that as well.
Should work wonders for you.
Great video, as usual, For the drawer, we put some floor wax on the wood running parts so it runs and moves very easily
check your brake caliper. side to side uneven wear means your caliper is not sliding properly and only giving you half the stopping power

Frenchie finally has an Aussie accent
You are fortunate to have so many great Landy frieds wherever you travel.
Land Rover family. We are realising that lately about 80% of our friends are Defender owners 😅
Yay!!!

I'd go with aluminium instead of using that plywood..less maintainence required..
@@dolguldur4706 I totally agree. Maybe even starboard. But if the drawer was supported by guides it may not need the plywood at all.

Gotta say Liegh -
Should be able service Bear easily after all the experience of service on Big Blue!
Oh and we now have a hoist in workshop 🥳🥳
Hope the draw mods work - looks like they will :)
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE VIDEO
Use “form ply” its water resistant and slick and tough

A sticky calliper can also put stress on your wheel bearings and wear your disks unevenly. It would pay to give it a full checkout.
You should use either a full sheet of UHMW plastic or strips or rails so the draw will slide better🇨🇦🏴☠️
I like all your trip it’s amazing 🤩
I have A question : Where can I find flags of countries stickers? Can you give me a link to buy.. Thanks 🙏💕

You should have put the UHMW tape on the wood🇨🇦🏴☠️
Brake pads uneven due to caliper not sliding properly, needs cleaning, grease wherever it rubs 🔧🔧🔧🇺🇸
Would it be possible at your next service to show an in depth video of each step of the service, what is involved, what you do and how you do it?

Why not putting a piece of aluminum instead of plywood?with aluminium plate its going to stand the weather better than the plywood
Why not put something like plexiglass or an aluminium sheets instead of timber?
We need the 12 mm thickness. Otherwise the camper doesn’t seats too low and doesn’t clear the side of the tube. If that makes sense.
@@GrizzlyNbearOverland Tnx yeah I understand the 12 mil requirement but you could get that in plexiglass for example
