Up With People at Superbowl XIV (14)

  • Long before the Black Eyed Peas, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Prince and the Blues Brothers were doing Superbowl half-time shows, there was Up With People! This show is a tribute to the big band era and features Up With People Casts A, B and C from the 1979-1980 tour. If you're looking for anything having to do with the actual Steelers vs. Rams game, you'll have to look elsewhere - this clip only includes polyester, mylar and music!! Enjoy!
I uploaded this as a Christmas gift to my fellow UWP alumni -
    Bob Brew - Cast C - 1979-80
BTW - I do not own this material - the copyrights are held by Up With People, the National Football League, and the various composers.

Was in the Ohio cast (couldn't afford to travel with Cast B accepted after audition); had several solos at tje Ohio State Fair Grandstand shows we were right ahead of the Osmonds one year & Jackson 5 next year...it was a great experience performing from 1968 thru 1971.

One HAS to comment on the post by Cathy Lincks. (who is obviously just rambling a bunch of nonsense) First, like Manfred Ketz who has a post below, I was on that Super Bowl XIV field with several hundred other awesome young people from 15-20 countries around the world. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I still go to the reunions every 5 years. Its purpose, in a nutshell, was to bridge cultural gaps between peoples and countries using music as the medium. And it was a tremendous educational experience as well. That Super Bowl performance was just a taste of the many songs written by some of the MOST talented musicians in the 1970's - 1980"s. What an amazing opportunity and PRIVILEGE to have traveled 1979-80 through portions of the United States and central Europe. It gave me a lifetime of memories and close friendships. Oh yes, and one more thing: I don't remember Kool-Aid ever being on the menu!!

Mac, wow! It must have been fabulous to be part of this group! When I was a young girl, my Nana took me to see Up With People, and we had such a wonderful time together that we went every time they came to our area and bought the music, to hold us over until the next year.. For the "old-timey" music (her words) that I hadn't heard before, she would give me a little history on that music and tell me how it influenced her life, and if there was a special dance (like The Charleston), she'd teach me the dance. We loved your shows, and especially how you got people involved. I definitely remember the conga line. Same music, too! We had a ball! We would always marvel at how so much talent was on one stage, each one of you with a heart to help others in need. Thank you for being part of the group that today gives me sweet, special memories of her so happy that she sparkled.
