Screamer 2 is a video game developed by Milestone and published by Virgin Interactive Entertainment, released on September 30, 1996 in North America and November 15, 1996 in Europe.It is the second game in the Screamer series. Unlike its predecessor, which drew heavily from Namco's Ridge Racer, Screamer 2 moved towards a rally-oriented style, replacing the six high-performance road cars of the previous game with four rally cars.
The game supports up to two players using a split screen and up to four players over a network.

God I remember this. Even today those graphics still look fun and colourful. At the time it launched it blew my mind how good it looked and played. Felt like an arcade machine in my house.
Played this way too much as a student, the driving model was excellent . What I particularly liked was that the courses were long and varied, plus the "AI" drivers were tough but flawed. Liked it so much I ran a fan site for it for a couple of years, including global high score tables etc. That's where the replay value came in - you could master the courses and get to the stage where you could reliably trim tenths of a second of your laptimes. That's a sign of a fair difficulty level - F-Zero had it too.
Unforgettable 1996, and still gives me goosebumps.
This game was/is way more fun that many new games that are released nowadays. I wish many new games have this good gameplay and feeling.
That brings great memories. Used to run this game on my Windows 98 smooth as in this video. The game was so well optimized!
I had the demo. Played that England level SO much as a child. I see it's available in GOG these days, so I'll probably buy it.

I played demo all time, because these were the days my family could not afford to buy full game.
In demo, enemies kept racing despite of finishing race, ix you did not finish race or went wrong way for circa 90 minutes, then grass started to throw cars in the air.
I remember I had so much fun when I accidentally left computer switched on with race pending.
However, as I said, it needed circa 90 minutes, then driving into grass made you jump like at he bridge.
It had to be a bug or demo feature because it did not work in full game .. i remember being so upset due to this fact..
Also did not find any mention of this throwing grass in internet. Maybe I am the only one that found this feature, lol. I need go find demo and check it is working on other versions.
I had my demo included at disc of CD action magazine in 90s.
That demo was everything, I played it too much before getting the whole game later
I remember playing demo of S2 back in old days. There was only this one track and its atmosphere is awesome! Great memories from late 90s.
My brain went from Road rage to MDK to Screamer. the joy of the olden days..
What makes this game really great apart from it being fun to play is that it and its immediate sequel (Screamer Rally) were not only amazingly 3D-accelerated at the time, but even by modern standards, the speed rendering of the driving surfaces (asphalt, dirt, grass, sand, snow etc) is almost unmatched! This indeed looks more like what one sees when looking down the window of a car or out of a train window!

Still got it. Loved the fact you could play your own music in it; I seemed to race better that way.
Yeah, Motörhead or some insane death metal.
It works fine in DOSBox 0.74 too!
The only issue is the initial setup crashing with a black screen, but it is easily solved by using these settings for the initial install:
cputype=486_slow
cycles=80000
After that, just it set back to:
cputype=auto
cycles=auto
This way you don't need a virtualbox with 32bit operation system.

Remember having this game, then getting a 3DFX Voodoo graphics card and applying the 3DFX patch , mind blowing at the time!

For anyone missing that kind of charme and feel Screamer 2 had i suggest checking out V-Rally 4. Not the newest game itself but in my opinion nails this arcadey rally racer subgenre equally well as Screamer 2 did. The cars feel like they have real weight and momentum, but the physics aren't overly punishing like with the many rally racing simulations on the market.

Games don't always age as well. Still looks fine and plays great.

At the time the graphics has been top-notch on 3dfx cards. In my memory it looked better though 🤔

The games camera makes surroundings kinda skew which adds to the sense of speed. You can see all trees and buildings tilting outwards as you pass them. I can't think of any other racing games that uses this trick.

Had this on a pentium II + a wodoo 2, but played it on software mod, because I didnt know what 3D acceleration was for... (I was like 8 years old back in time)
Shame that the original Screamer game is not glide-accelerated but S3 ViRGE-only. Haven't found a functional way yet to get S3 ViRGE emulation either with DOSBox-X or PCem, the game starts with the emulated ViRGE being detected, but does not render 3D graphics, just the steering wheel and the horizon... Any luck anyone?
you're better off playing in software. the virge emulation looks like ass

Screamer was racing. Much to my annoyance, Need For Speeds seems to be mostly playing grab ass with the police.
Try S2 and SR with nglide, up to 1280x1024!
Prefered the first one to be honest...this was still a great game, but the first one in my opinion was "better". Just.

@@Victor_2000s Are you crazy ? Did you have a 3dfx Voodoo Win 9x ? And ps2 launched in 2000. 96 was ps1 and Windows 98 emulate dreamcast and ps1. Windows 9x + 3dfx + LAN + WAN + force feedback + Game library was the best.
@@lucianoozorio7763 Read my comment, i mean 1996 PCs, not later 90s PCs. PCs from 1996 can't emulate PS2 and Dreamcast because they are weak.

Actually, both game exist.
The first game originally was Screamer 2, Screamer Rally is actually a reskinned version with some modified maps/tracks released a year later. Screamer Rally has also fantasy named cars, so no licensed cars either, but this time, that cars look similar to real life WRC cars (like Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Renault Megane Maxi, VW Golf Rally etc.), where is Screamer 2 the cars were mostly similar to street cars (aka Porsche, Mazda etc.)
