  • Cottons 40 in the Hotpoint 9901 post timer change. Brief history lesson below. Hope you enjoy!
The Hotpoint 9901 is Hotpoint's second washer dryer they made, the first was the short lived 9900 which was introduced in September 1985 and ran till April 1986 when the 9901 was introduced with the rest of the new 'Next Generation' range. This machine is date code 22, so October 1987. It wasn't till June 1987 that a lower specification 800 spin washer dryer was introduced, model 9920. Both these ran until April 1988 when they were replaced with the models 9924 and 9934 when the other 95X4 machines were introduced also. The machine has an enamelled outer drum and an unusual brushed motor for the tumble dryer blower. Being a Low Energy model, the machine will wash approximately ten degrees lower than the stated temperature, so in order to access the usual temperature you need to press the Heavy Soil button so the machine heats fully. For example, a 40 wash would be at 30, exception given for a boilwash where the temperature is dubbed to 60 unless pressed.

Excellent machine but I can’t help wondering what Hotpoint was thinking of when designing those spin sequences! As though the spins on the 95s weren’t violent enough to begin with!!!

You should consider to make a video of Hotpoint most famous jumping spins 😍😂

Very interesting motor sound. I guess this one hasn't got any kind of out of balance control - but why does it sometimes "redistribute" the load?

never EVER seen the washer drier in white, only ever brown & almond, , timer fault with tumbleing only one way was common on these, many times the owner haddent even noticed!

I'm not sure why on 39-40mins the machine decided to stop and rebalance given it was okay on the first and second go. The third attempt was way off balance yet it went for the spin of which nearly busted the drum. I do like the continuous rotation as it rinses, however if unbalanced the machine really shouldn't spin but try and rotate anti clockwise a little then attempt.

It's the programming. I dont like the spin pattern on the washer dryers compared to the washer only

@@TheLaundryCentre How it lasted for so long I have no idea, if my Samsung eco bubble dared attempt that it would become an eco bomb!

Machines back then were made much more durable so could handle that and a lot more that modern machines could not.

Also these didn’t have balance sensors back then because again, these machines were built better.

This is absolutely the worst programmed spin sequence i"ve ever seen. Strange how in washer-dryer models it was like that, whereas in washer only model it was was ok
