- Here is a video of my test ride of the Yamaha TMax. I had this scooter in my garage during 3 weeks. It belongs to a good friend who has requested me to keep it during his vacations, as the TMax is the most stolen 2-wheeler in France. I took it for a 2-hour ride. It's pretty hard, maybe even impossible, to evaluate comprehensively a vehicle in such a short time. So, what I am sharing here are just my first impressions.
Specifications in brief:
- Forward inclined parallel twin cylinder engine
- 530 cc, water cooled
- 46 hp @ 6,750 rpm, 52 nm @ 5,250 rpm
- Cast-aluminium frame
- V-belt automatic transmission
- Radial brakes with ABS
- 222 kg (489 lb) with all operating consumable liquids
- 800 mm (31.5 in) seat height
- 15 l (4 US Gal) fuel tank
- 10,000 km (6,000 mi) or 12-month maintenance interval
- 10,999 euros (in France), VAT included
The TMax in the video is the Iron Max version, with a matt black paint, golden fork & brake caliper caps, aluminium footplates, and alcantara seat. The price of the Iron Max version is 11,499 euros in France, VAT included.

A good option for those interested in motorcycling but don't like the idea of manually shifting a transmission. Nice review, and I think the scooter actually impressed me a little :)
There's always Honda's DCT option or full automatic bikes like the Aprilia Mana.
***** Dual Clutch Transmission. More like semi-auto, you can choose either shift the gears yourself or let the bike do the work.

Merci Jo ! 😊 C'est vrai que ça a la pêche, et comme c'est vraiment trop facile à conduire et qu'il n'y a ni embrayage, ni sélecteur de vitesse à gérer, ça incite à ouvrir grand tout le temps... 😈

I was really trying very hard to not like the tmax .Your video showed it to be a very good scooter capable of around town and motorway.The only killer for me is fuel tank range.
I also tried... But after riding it, I had to admit that it's a good scooter :)

MrKiddo sympa de répondre c'est rare ^^ Oui j'avais un 50 quand j'étais gamin, puis voiture depuis le permis, j'ai du mal avec les transports mais dans Paris la voiture c'est de moins en moins possible (bouchons, stationnement...)
J'utilise CityScoot en ce moment, assez sympa mais cher à la longue, je payerai pareil quasiment pour le Tricity mais à la différence qu'il m'appartient en permanence et je peux aller en banlieue proche si nécessaire, puis moins encombrant qu'un mp3 ou même le Yourban !

Great review and nice footage as usual. I have considered buying one myself but ultimaltely chose the Versys as the latter is much cheaper and the fact that i already own a scooter (Mp3). However, i was at a dealership one day and took a seat on one but only to find that my knees were hitting the handlebars when turning them on their extreme positions. That was kind of a setback for me. In may this year i tested a Gilera Gp800 and i liked it very much. Still tempted to trade the Versys in for this beast..... Would be a really nice idea for you to test this scooter as well and do a one on one comparison worh the TMax. Thanks again and ride safe :-)

Ray50d you can loosen the handle bars, and pust them higher and fasten them, you will have to watch out with the plastics from the handle bars because if you Thaise them to much they won't fit anymore.
That said, i got my bars raised about 2cm (and it made a world in difference).

Yes, the storage space is pretty convenient. Furthermore, this TMax also has a top box, but I removed it for my test ride :)
I have the same with Akrapovic exhaust and short dark screen and I ride it as a hooligan. AWESOME !!~!!

I rode many other bikes too, bought my first Tmax 2001 model a couple of years ago and now this, it is just an Awesome bike.

For me was the other way arround. From many motorcycles I had,once I rode a tmax,sold the motorcycles,bought a tmax,bought again a motorcycle,in the same time I owned the tmax too. But the motorcycles couldnt convinced me to go back to them. Tmax is just too good!

Had a honda cbr 1100xx in the same time as Tmax. Sold the blackbird,besides its raw power,the tmax has such more usable power.
Kymco AK550 is also great scooter, you should check it out

Thanks for the video very informative. I am thinking to buy one but I heard that it is quite a heavy drinker. I do at least a 100k a day split into 50/50 City traffic and longer journeys. What's your thought abut this ?

Kayak Malta i have a modified 2016 model, it has a jcosta variator with 16gr weights, sc project sportschool exhaust etc. and mine does 4l to 5.5l on 100 km, 5.5 is with the throttle pinned all the time.
Stock you will almost never get above the 5l/100km...
Superb scooter and that is from a Guy that comes of 1200cc bikes...
Mine is Yamaha Tmax 530cc 2014 but the bike does not have enough space to fit a helmit under the seat.
Indeed the underseat compartment is pretty large, but not enough for most of the full-face helmets.Ride safe and enjoy your Tmax :)

Pas moi lol oh non ! à la place je veux une Z900 Kawa et il me restera encore plein de pognon pour l'assurance , l'équipement et l'essence ... ^^
Scooter, mp3 ou moto, on ressent tous le besoin de liberté et le plaisir du 2 roues, on prend tous les mêmes risques en circulation, la mauvaise météo ect... la même "galère " pour le permis et les mêmes dangers sur la route. Quelques soit la cylindrée ou le modèle le bel esprit motard c'est au moins de rendre le salut quand il est donné. Quand quelqu'un me salut je lui répond c'est la base du respect et des relations humaines. Voilà, pour finir prenez tous du plaisir sur la route sans oublier ceux avec qui vous la partagez. Et pour ceux qui roule en short la chute leur servira de leçon.
Il est vrai que le Tmax 500 ou 530 est très jolie à regarder. Je me doute également que ça doit être un super utilitaire pour se déplacer dans paris et île de france, cependant je te rejoins. Il manque un embrayage et un sélecteur :)

Yes, it would fit you. I'm 1.74m and I could hardly touch the ground. It seems designed for tall riders...
Splitting through cars at a red light gonna get you layed out on the ground.
This is a common practice in Europe, where the motorcycle injury accident rate in much much lower than in the United States. Please make sure to know enough about riding before trying to impose your views on others... Ignorance gonna get you laid out in the darkness.

I have just bought a 2017 (2018) Tmax 530 DX brand new. Don't congratulate me. I'm very disappointed. Between about 3,750 - 4,750 RPM it sounds like a broken washing machine. It seems to be the way they are made. I thought the test-ride model had been modified, but now it seems not. I cannot keep the bike if I cannot make it quiet. Who buys a scooter for relaxed cruising and then listens to an incessant drone noise at cruising RPM?

Hi Stan and sorry to hear you're disappointed with your scooter choice. The scooter in this video is full stock and seemed pretty quiet to me. Does yours sound differently? Maybe there is an issue with your TMax and you should make it check by your dealer... 😔

I am disappointed, and I am very greatly disappointed, but only with the sound.
If it were quieter, there would be no minus points for me.... except that the fuel economy is poor (about 21 KPL) and *after* I bought it, the dealer said "By the way you can only use hi octane fuel."
Other than that, it is a very pleasing purchase, even at the very high price.
If I can find an acceptable option to quieten the bike - i.e. without a power reduction or other negative impact - I will be satisfied.
The bike is full stock and brand new.
I took it from zero to four hundred kilometres last weekend on two days out in the mountains, and it sounds like the test-ride bike I rode. I thought the test-ride bike had been modified, so I forgave the noise, but I cannot accept my own bike sounding like that. It's much louder and less pleaseing than my 2013 Suzuki V-Strom, which I traded in for the Yamaha.

No, you can remove your hands from the handlebar, it stays perfectly stable and keep moving smoothly. See the video from 3:10 to 3:26.

Sa ne sert à rien de préciser que c'est un scooter utilisé par les braqueurs et les dealers sa donne encore une plus mauvaise image qu'il à déjà lol j'en possède un en plus d'une moto et c'est vraiment très agréable pour faire de la ville et des voie rapide après c'est sur que c'est pas les même sensations mais en rajoutant un vario et un embrayage racing sa pousse bien.

disagree. I too have one. Bought this Tmax 530 for my wife but she cant touch the ground flat footed as she'd like. So I've been riding it. and the fun factor just seem to edge out the Bimmer. Opinions are like elbows, I know. But after putting on a set of stickier Michelin's, a full Malossi exhaust system (which weighs such a substantial amount, It makes one wonder WTH was Yamaha thinking casting an exhaust form what must of started as a full size ANVIL!) I have a Dynojet Power Commander I'm about to install after I do some more research and reading. I'm in hopes I wont be forced into having to by the Dynojet's additional "Auto-tune w/ O2 Sensor they try to push with it"! Pray a laptop will give me a better Air/Fuel/Spark Ratio then just the generic 5 or 6 tunes they implement for the Autotune!.. So for me, the 2015 TMAX has been a complete joy to ride. Honestly... I don't want my BMW back. 21 years riding here. But to each your own. This I know. Tmax looks good in all flat black too! Mark R.

Thanks for your feedback Lucas! :) Yes, it's the most stolen scooter in France, I wouldn't feel safe if I had to park it in the street overnight. I had fun every time I rode scooters, especially with this TMax, but as I said in the video I wouldn't buy one, as I'm into motorcycles ;)

C'est sur que pour un scooter ça doit être pas trop mal, mais j'ai quand même énormément de mal à comprendre ce qui pourrais pousser quelqu'un à passer son permis moto pour finir sur un scooter.

C'est tout simplement le fait d'avoir un coffre et de pouvoir ranger son casque. Certaines personnes détestent devoir se trimballer un casque partout. Tu va au restau ou en soirée, bah tu range ton casque au lieu de l'avoir sur toi. Sans parler de la protection quand il pleut...

You really need to ride it in a curvy rural environment, i'm from Belgium and i tested my new Tmax last week for two days in the ardennes On very twisty roads and it's just breathakingly fast in the curves !
I can even overtake motorcycles On the braking point, outbrake them and leave them to dust in the twistys 👌
I sold my tuned bandit 1200 to buy the max instead because the tuned and topheavy 1200 tore my bad wrists apart and i wil never look back.
in a straight line every idiot with 150-200hp can be fast but this is sooooo much fun scraping the center stand in every corner 😁
It's almost to easy to ride but that makes it also easy to do 400km in less then 10hrs over twisty roads, and for me personally that makes it a plus 👍

So, are you sure you want to waste your time in the traffic? 😉 Pulling out like that is called "filtering", it's a common practice in many European countries, which have a much lower motorcycle accident rate than the USA when filtering is banned... 🤨 Before trying to teach to the others how they should ride, please make sure you know yourself enough about riding 🤫
