I loved your Dad's reaction and appreciation. Really heartwarming. Also, I love how we can tell the passage of time through your various hair lengths, lol
What's better than having a dad's sincere appreciation for a gift? Having a Dad who can look at a piece of work like that and understand, right down to the 10,000 strokes of 400-grit wet-or-dry, just what a magnificent (and labor intensive) piece of craftsmanship this represents. Lucky to have a dad like that!
Add to the list of: Good woodworker Good husband Good father ....Good son! Heartwarming to see your dad's reaction, and appreciation! Well done, Matt! :-)
Matt, What a great father you have ! He truely admires the work you do and is so proud of you. It was so awesome and wonderful to see such a close loving bond you both have. It touched my heart deeply. Rarely in this generation have I seen this displayed. You and your dad have something very precious💕.
What a great gift for your parents , if it was mine it wouldn't be used in the laundry room . I'd use it where guest's could see what a fine piece of wood that you gave them . Simply beautiful . Great Video young man .
It's awesome to see your Dad's Heartfelt reaction and to see the close bond you have with your father! That is very rare these days! My son and daughter both call me daily as we share a similar bond. You are a fortunate man Matt. My father, a Master Carpenter passed many years ago, but he instilled the love for woodworking in me as a very young boy. Countertop looks amazing!
Between your hair length and the stickers on the garage door, you can tell time has elapsed. The hug from your dad makes all your effort worth it. Great video.
Dude.... I laughed. I cried. Being a millwright, steel fabricator, and electrician there were moments when I am thinking to myself, that's going about it the hard way. In the end though I really have to give you the credit you deserve. You took on a really big project, and I bet bigger than even you thought it would be. But you did it in spades, and it works great. Congratulations.
I always think this about people who dislike videos that obviously involve a great deal of expertise, regardless of the video genera. No matter how great the work, a certain percentage of people somehow feel the need to hit 'dislike,' which I'll never understand.
Very nice. You have a depth of knowledge of wood. That will make a nice top for the cabinets. Dad and mom really can't believe how fantastic it looks. NICE JOB Matthew❗
Too funny. All that work and your dad wants to cover it to protect it! Just like our dining room table. It has such beautiful wood and finish that my wife covers with fine linen tablecloths. Could have used plywood!
Well told story ... on this and on your other videos ... you are one of very few who keep me glued to the screen ... nice style, easy pace, lots of info, calm delivery ... hats off!
I was fascinated by the jellyfish swimming in the epoxy at 8 minutes, 28 seconds; a really cool effect. I watched that several times as I would have never thought of putting jellyfish in epoxy. Very innovative and creative. You are a true artist! :)
As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement th-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
Nice gentlemen you are your dad raised you right, nice work. I work with wood my self but not knowledge with epoxy. MAN! you got the power tool witch I don't have, nice! I'm a carpenter by trade 34 years commercial carpenter retired with a good pension I was I'm still alive to see my pension. NICE WORK!
Very nice work! One of the best tinting materials for epoxy I have used is charcoal. I pulverize chunks from the woodstove and mix that powder into fast setting epoxy. It fills gaps well and polishes nicely to ebony-like. I don't have a formula for mixing, it takes very little to produce a dark black paste. The charcoal stabilizes the epoxy and makes bubbles disappear. I have 35 year old burl bowls that show no degradation of the filled cracks.
Well Matthew...(as your Dad would say) it is a very cool piece and I was really interested in the finish process you showed. Please tell me you didn't make your folks wait that long for you to empty the trash or clean your room.
hey! I love your videos, i really like how in depth you go with everything. As a fairly new woodworker, ive learned a lot off of your channel. That being said I do have a question, is there an affordable chainsaw mill that you would recommend? I have some trees that I would like to slab up and ive priced out some mobile saw mill services and what i've found seems expensive to me ($1000+). Maybe thats the going rate, but I was wondering if theres a cheaper way.
Thanks Adam! The mill is cheap, it's the chainsaw that is the expensive part. How big are these trees? Portable mill is going to be much faster, just keep that in mind.
Extra special that you did this for your parents. I love watching your carpentry/woodworking videos but have also been enjoying the home remodel and barn build series. Great channel and awesome work. Keep it up. Here’s to a great 2023!
Oh, and I am not knowledgable about most modern substances. So you did well Matt, teaching me about epoxy. I am an old arborist. I could bend your ear for a while about the rotten knot in that wood. But I had no idea what a good craftsman could do with it. Thank you.
Slab turned out beautifully! Going to make a very nice counter top. And I know many other people have mentioned it already man but the way that your dad reacts when you show him is EVERYTHING! I am lucky enough to also have my father around still and I love showing him my projects and doing little projects for him when I can. There is no better feeling in the world for a man than that love, appreciation, and respect as well as encouragement. Keep up the good work man. That little clip at the end is such an amazing thing to have recorded ❤️
Beautiful work. It dosent matter where it is for, its the skill, the creativity and pride of workmanship that goes into it and reveals the beauty of the wood that is relevant.
Beautiful wood, I like the look of the diminished knot as well, very cool. I can see why your dad was thrilled with the finished product. Great build, great video.
your dad is gone use a top of osb and your counter top will end in the living room. nice to see your dad happy and you very proud of the end product. thanks for sharing matthew.
How fortunate you are to have a father that appreciates you so much. The project was great and I learned about the fill coat for the first time, but your father's reaction is priceless. Very cool!
Thanks so much for showing us this Beauty and letting us observe the fun of building it. Could / would you please show this newbie how to sand correctly. I am self taught and don't feel that I am sanding correctly. Thanks for sharing your fun journey. LOVE RESPECT KINDNESS ONLY MATTERS! Spread IT.
Great job Matt. This would be a better world if everyones dad was like your's. You do beautiful work everytime. Enjoy all your videos. Keep up the GREAT work. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge..
So I am I the only one noticed how things sometime work out perfectly? Referencing the fact that the first log the "sawmill master" cut also had a defect that looks exactly like his logo, which references his hair, face and beard. Awesome video!
My favourite Matt Cremona videos are the ones where: (1) I learn a new technique I didn’t know before, like the sanding/varnish/linseed oil pore filling you did here, and (2) I don’t know what Matt’s hair and beard status is going to be from one scene to the next. Haven’t been this satisfied on both counts since the finishing video.
Me: I'm going to Home Depot to buy a laminate countertop because it's a laundry room.
Matt Cremona: Hold both my beers.
:-D
@boekelnj But this one was worth the wait.
And I am running out of ideas of things I can make with formica.
@@bobvogel5398 and will last 100 years unlike the HD laminate 5 years before delam, if that.
No Home Depot anything for me. I did all my own countertops, vanities and built-ins, doors and draws in wood. Very rewarding and satisfying!
I loved your Dad's reaction and appreciation. Really heartwarming. Also, I love how we can tell the passage of time through your various hair lengths, lol
hahahaha thanks Phil!
Phil Pinsky Productio
The dust collector changed too lol
Which brand is the dust collector, it looks very nice. I have a 5HP clear view.
I was thinking the same thing Phil. The hug and the kiss, priceless!.
WHOW ! 200 hundreds yrs from now someone will looking for a signature!!
Pretty good. Especially since he started it 200 years ago..
Haha Yhea he’s got a lot to do and does it well, Romans used Oak for bridges timbers still holding up, maybe he should sign his work !

Big hug from Dad. Don't pay the bills but is a preferred method of payment, good work man !!
Love and support from your dad is priceless.
Nothing like a big bear hug from Pops...probably the most rewarding part of the project!
Add to the list of:
Good woodworker
Good husband
Good father

Heartwarming to see your dad's reaction, and appreciation! Well done, Matt! :-)
thanks Norm!
What a joy to please dad and have a hug and a kiss!
😢
Wonderful job.
Love how much your Dad loved this!
Nothing better for a son than impressing your dad like you did!
thanks Nick!
Best part of the whole thing was your dad at the end!
totally agree - it is so cool to have such great support from a dad - much needed in the world today!

The Matt Cremona Hair-do Chronicles!
Man, what a stellar looking shelf. Great gift!
hahahaha
The best part of the whole video was your Dad's reaction! His love and appreciate for you and your work was awesome! Thanks for sharing that.
Good to see your dad was still alive by the time you finished the countertop. :-)
It's beautiful and worth the wait.
Thanks!
very beautiful Matthew, awesome job on it. it made my heart soar like a Hawk when I saw how pleased your Dad was.
Idk whats better, the finished product or your dad's reaction. I love it!!!!
thanks Tiffany!
You seem like a truly genuine guy, Matthew. I really enjoyed this video, cheers!

I feel sorry for the 70 people who disliked this video. Nothing could make them happy... NOTHING.

I suspect TH-cam recommends the video to someone who was just after Minecraft videos or something.

isn't that the truth! Thanks Richard!
I get the same reaction from my mom when I make her something. I just remind her its wood and we can always fix it.
Well told story ... on this and on your other videos ... you are one of very few who keep me glued to the screen ... nice style, easy pace, lots of info, calm delivery ... hats off!
Never heard of a fill pour with finish and saw dust before. Definitely try that on my next table top.

Great to make your Dad happy like that. Good for you‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸
You could add an LED light under the epoxy feature very cheap and easy.
Your a rising star, and a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work.

Red oak is no joke!
Always good to have a hug of the dad.
Laundry is pretty heavy. I think he'll need every bit of that 10/4.
I just checked out this video when your shop was in your basement, things have certainly changed and you have gotten older! Nice job for your Dad.
Where is your dad gonna find the doily he said he would need? He cracked me up when he said that.
Your dad's reaction made me tear up . I wish i had started wood working before my dad passed away =(
