Ah! Ash the place of my birth in 1954, many happy day's growing up there and it's nice to see that there are still a few of the older faces still kicking around. Moved away in 1978 but came back to the area about eighteen years ago and the old village does not seem to have changed much. All in all a nice little video on a place close to my heart.
Nice one Jeremy, another good video. I was born in Ash in 1963 at Cecil Foats farm Cop street in a caravan. There was a forge just on the corner which was still in use until the 80s. I remember the Chequers well. Bill and Francis were the publicans in the 70s and 80s. Other pubs, Crooked Billet and the Volunteer at Guilton. I could go on. I love that part of East Kent. There used to be a little shop there as well, we used to call it Open all Hours because it was. Regards - Shaun 👍
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful set of postcards and filming; my Mum and Grandma lived in Queens Road Ash in the 1930s; do you mind if I posted a link to this on my facebook page; Thank you Susan
The pub is called "the chequers inn" not the chequer, it was always called "the chequers" as my grand parents Stan and Jane twiddy run it! It was someone called Wyman I think who changed it briefly to the chequer

Yes I remember Stan Twiddy when he ran the pub and the Wymans who took over, I was born in the village 1954 but by 1978 had moved to the Midlands.
