    Atlanta is famously known as the city hidden in the trees its practically surrounded by mountains and major forests so if you are in Atlanta feel free to see some of the actually amazing nature reserves

    • @PaulCashman
      @PaulCashman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's actually one of the most heavily forested cities in North America. You don't realize this until you look down from a height (like the Peachtree Plaza hotel or the top of the Marriott) and see all the tree cover winding between the streets and buildings, as compared to, say, NYC.

    Two recommendations:
    a) The amazing variety of authentic ethnic restaurants, mostly Asian, along the Buford Highway.
    b) The Carlos Museum at Emory.
    (And by the way, there are plenty of restaurants in Atlanta that serve only Pepsi products.)

    For younger folks who actually want to go out Edgewood, Little Five, Poncey Highlands, and East Atlanta have some great dives and venues to check out local bands and comedians.
    I would also recommend venturing north to Buford Highway to get a more culturally diverse food experience.
    Monday night Karaoke at the Local on Ponce is lit.
    West Midtown has a lot of super trendy hipster restaurants and bars.

    The way he says Marta is so funny lmao. As someone who was born and raised in Atlanta, the center for civil and human rights is so worth a visit, the counter simulation will move you to tears. DONT go to Phipps plaza if you’re not extremely rich lmao. Buckhead in general is only really good for Chinese food and shopping. Don’t go to the varsity unless you have a really strong stomach, the food really isn’t that good and more likely it’ll just make you sick. Little five points is great if you’re into art and cool murals, but it’s also only really good for shopping. The Atlanta history center also has haunted houses during October!

      #Atlanta, the center for civil and human rights is so worth a visit, the counter simulation will move you to tears. I know exactly what you mean. Can you last 45 seconds listening to that recording. It is truly an eye opener. But so is the rest of the centre. It shows what people had to go through during segregation and how they slowly fought back. Not with violence, but with peaceful protests and determination. @TakeAKnee.

    Lived here my entire life. Manuals Tavern is a good bar with good grub that has been around forever. The Vortex has great burgers. Mary Mac's tearoom is good but has an old lady vibe. The Fox theater is a great venue for a show. Little 5 points is still cool even though WAY more commercialized than the old days. Sweetwater beer is brewed here and is very good. Carry a firearm if you are able as there is way more crime than just cars getting broken into. Violent crime is pretty high (look it up) but you'll know if you're in a sketchy part and downtown touristy places are pretty safe. Marta (public transit) sucks honestly. But it really is a fun city with the best strip clubs. Go checkout the Clermont Lounge!

    • @D.Antony
      @D.Antony 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mdskydive7245 I agree with you, I lived in LA then too but from what I'm told it's not the "stop and go" that scares you in Atlanta. It's just the opposite. 8 lanes of traffic, each going 90 mph, cutting in front of you without signals, on both sides. There's nothing scary about "stop and go", it's just annoying.

    • @mdskydive7245
      @mdskydive7245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm an Atlanta native, and I took Marta for about a year or two and I will say the trains are great, but the buses suck, and that streetcar just takes up space on the streets downtown. I liked to ride the train to get close to where you're trying to go, then walk or get a Lyft to your final destination.

  • @caseyquinn9282
    @caseyquinn9282 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe it's because I'm used to it but driving in Atlanta isn't that bad imo. Mary Mac's is great. Joy Cafe has the best pancakes (everything there is good). Kroog Street Market is better than Ponce for food (Gu's Dumplings is a must). General Muir has the best Reuben and maybe best burger. Smoke Jack BBQ is amazing. If you're an outdoorsy person rent a car and either drive north to Helen to see Tallulah Gorge or Amicola Falls (or both) or drive south to Providence Canyon. Well worth a few hours in the car. Savannah is also a few hours drive and a beautiful city to see.

    There are interesting sites also outside Atlanta. Macon is a historic town about an hour from Atlanta, and should not be missed (the Georgia Music Hall of Fame is great); unlike in Atlanta, folks actually speak in a Southern drawl there. And in Atlanta's suburbs is the fascinating Stone Mountain Memorial Park, "politically incorrect" among today's liberals, which has an outstanding "open-art museum," displaying buildings brought there from elsewhere in the State.

    Just in defense of my city during Snowpocalypse, it wasn't just snow. It snowed, then the weather warmed up just enough for a bit of the snow to melt, then it froze again. So we had ice on top of the snow, and that's what really shut the city down. Wasn't just Atlanta, either - the Weather Service said the storm would be worst in southern Alabama, so the Alabama DOT staged all their snowplows and salt trucks in the southern counties. Then the storm whacked northern Alabama and they were screwed.

      Totally agree with this. My daughter was stuck in the snow for a very long time. Cars everywhere had hit ice and skidded away blocking lanes etc. This is a hot state and not really equipped for cold weather - which comes about once every 5-10 years.

    Was just in ATL this past weekend. If you're visiting any of the attractions downtown, Citypass is a must. We went to the Zoo, Aquarium, Civil rights center, and the natural history museum and it equaled out to less than 25 per person (my wife and I) per venue. If we did world of coke, it would have been an even better value.
    CNN is unfortunately closed down now though; apparently they sold to a company in florida or something during the pandemic

    Living relatively local to Atlanta, a lot of what this fellow is saying is right on the dot. Please heed his advice. Also what Terry Chootiyaa said below, use extra caution around the Greyhound Bus station area. MARTA is generally OK during the day, just exercise more awareness if you're traveling at night and recognize that the network of transportation may be lacking, especially in regards to the subway/train system. For example, I live NE of the city so I have to drive to reach the nearest MARTA train station to utilize it to go to the Downtown area. Significantly cheaper and less stressful to do so, as parking Downtown can be costly, but you have to balance your risks.

And if you like TV History, you can go to Covington where they filmed many TV shows including The Dukes of Hazzard. Also as a tennis fan, I try to make it out to the BB&T Open that's downtown every summer. Ya..that's the truth about Atlanta traffic. As a native Atlantan (yes, there are some of those; not everyone is from somewhere else originally), this video is pretty spot on. To give some context, Buckhead is north of uptown, but you CAN take MARTA there if you want! You just may need to do some walking and/or Uber/Lyft to where specifically you want to go.
    Important note about MARTA: If you take the train, make sure you know what line you need to take to get to your destination. Two lines run north-south: Red and Gold. Red goes from the Airport to North Springs (heads mainly north to Buckhead, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs). Gold goes from the Airport and eventually heads northeast after Lindbergh Station to Lenox (Mall), Chamblee all the way to Doraville (near something natives call "Spaghetti Junction." Basically, that's where Interstates 285 and 85 come together on the northeast side).
    Best times to visit? Typically, March-mid May (remember your allergy medicine) and late September-November. Late May-early September...it is hot and HUMID. Always humid during the summer. You will sweat A LOT. A/C will become your best friend. If you want to be outside during the summer months and haven't been, I highly recommend White Water, a water park off I-75 in Marietta (NW of Atlanta). It's very fun and a great way to cool off. It can be expensive to get in, but if you plan on visiting two or more times, buy a season pass. Pays for itself on two visits. A great thing for families with children of all ages. You will need a car to get there, though.
    Born and raised here, I love Atlanta and I would not trade my hometown city with any other. Come visit, eat, drink, have a great time and take in all you can. So much history and culture here. Great job on the video, Mark!

    As someone who lives in Atlanta I think this video was great! Definitely agree with everything in it. I’d also add a couple things I haven’t seen other people mention:
    1) the beltline was briefly touched on in this video but it’s absolutely one of the must do things if you’re visiting atlanta and have some time. If you walk down it there are great views of the city and great bars and restaurants to stop at. Usually events too
    2) Piedmont park/botanical garden - also great views of the city, always events going on, and generally pretty.
    3) restaurants - he definitely touched on the most famous/touristy restaurants here but I think there are better. Atlanta magazine puts out a list of the best restaurants and it doesn’t miss. Don’t be afraid to drive a little farther to go to one bc it will be worth it
