I think Ultraviolet is their best song since Eternal Blue. Absolutely gorgeous piece of music. Just shared my third listen-through with you, Steve! Always appreciate your analysis.
Zev Rose (their drummer) is EXTREMELY underrated. He is absolutely hiding his technical and musical abilities as a drummer with Spiritbox. He's classically trained, more than capable of playing Bleed by Meshuggah (there's footage of it somewhere), and... I believe he's only 21 years old or so. To play professionally and not showcase his massive reservoir of chops, grooves, and other rudiments requires restraint, professionalism, and maturity as a musician in general. I've been drumming for 14 years (I'm 28 now), and I only realised the importance of 'playing to the song' in recent years. I'm ADHD asf though, so that probably didn't help. 😂
Haha! Loved this comment. I was chatting to Conquer Divide’s drummer about playing for the song too. That interview will be on the channel in a couple days. Not one to miss 🤘🏻
Fun fact: Mike posted the riff of Angel Eyes on TH-cam and Instagram last year in December I believe, and we didn’t think much of it. Also The Void is most definitely a grower and it is so much better live. The energy of the crowd when I saw this live was insane and the day after the show I couldn’t stop listening to this song
Not a lot of people know this but a majority of the albums drums were programmed by the guitarist Mike but then had the touring drummer come in and tweak certain parts for feel and playability live. Touring drummer is now official drummer for the band.
Fantastic EP. Right there with you on the void, The more I hear it the better it gets! Spiritbox puts so many little details in their music, this EP is going to just keep getting better the more I listen to it.
This makes me looking forward in the future to their new stuff. Courtney Laplante gives tiny hints … but teases of a full length like eternal blue (which I also own) in ‘24
I love the phrase “sonic buffet”, that’s exactly what this EP feels like to me. There are so many little details to notice. Didn’t think they’d beat Jaded for me but Ultraviolet has been on repeat all day, it’s beautiful.
Totally agree, what I feel with Ultraviolet, it's this release's Constance. Angel Eyes disgusting AF! Love this new release.. Indeed the drums and bass are less subtle and more up front I think. Great review 🙂👍🏻👍🏻
Gorgeous EP throughout. Impossible to pick out anything specific, but I will anyway. Loved the stesque elements in Too Close / Too Late, and the mixing and production overall was sublime. Excellent analysis / breakdown Steve!
Spiritbox is incapable of making a bad song. I love them so much and their music has a re-listen-ability like no other heavy music I’ve listened to. Courtney lyricism and killer Melodies mixed with the absolutely chunky fucking guitar keeps my brain so hooked on finding new aspects of the music
love your album reactions, dude. TC/TL is my new favorite Spiritbox song, but I absolutely loved Ultraviolet too. This EP is amazing, what a great band
He's probably loving it. The freedom to change into all sort of vibes. Me as a heavy guitar player in a heavy band for years I know I would be in heaven if I were him. Being stuck with one sound gets tiring. But having the ability to cross genre go mellow and still go very heavy is every metal musicians dream
@Eyeyamgod that's what I figured. He also has more freedom to do features and side stuff. Like the new song Aura by Oni ft Howard Jones and Josh if you haven't heard it yet
@@geraltoftexas7631 Spiritbox confirmed that they're working on a second album. It might be awhile before we hear any vocals on a verse or chorus from Josh.

Honoured. Thanks for joining me through this one! It’s a cracking EP. On second listen Ultraviolet is a real standout actually. Definite grower.
I 100% agree with you about Ultraviolet. It's nothing short of a masterpiece
Was in the middle of listening through the EP when your notification popped up and was like: "ehh i'd rather listen through it with Steve". Hype!
Well, to say you’ve made my day with this comment is an understatement. Thank you very much indeed ❤️ I’m honoured.
I did the same thing!!

@SteveOGRock Yooooo, Conquer Divide are amazing. They've constantly been climbing my list of bands to pay attention to.

Too Close / Too Late is awesome. I think Jaded is still my favorite. It's a great playthrough listen though! I'm enjoying digging into the EP.
agreed about the drums. Very creative, very dynamic and punchy. The drumming definitely elevates each track
I don't care what anyone says, The Void is still a sick ass track! I have to play it when I'm on the highway and I'm running late somewhere, lol. :P
Yes. Confirmed banger ✅
“Sorry officer, the speed limit does not apply during verse 2 of The Void by Spiritbox”

Haha yes!
Amazing EP…. Loved everything
Spiritbox have reached a new level of love with me after seeing them live and I’m here for it all
Yes. They are so brilliant live!
The craziest thing about Cellar Door is that the chorus is ... almost catchy by the end of it? Somehow?
Zev Rose on drums. Just outstanding! Awesome EP! Ultraviolet hits me hard!

stesque ✅
I think it’s brilliant how they’ve taken their sound from the last ep and combined it perfectly with Eternal Blue.
Superb EP, loved all of it 🤟
Great reaction and breakdown. Entire EP fantastic and really cool to listen straight through.
Yea indeed!
The halfway-ish switch in Too Close/ Too Late is yummy af. Then the lead into Angel Eyes. *chefs kiss. Edited to add, Ultraviolet is a masterpiece

Thanks! Yeah I’ve been listening to this EP a bunch since it’s release. Great vibes in those 2 songs you mentioned.
I love the lyrical callback in Ultraviolet!
16:21 you know a breakdown is heavy when all you can do is laugh hahah
Too right ✅
Wow. A lot heavier than the representative single releases. Now I can feel good about it. Thanks for taking this one out for a spin!
I got a bit baited by the track names, thought angel eyes might be another softer one... I was very wrong
😂 yeah, fair assumption!
the drums were kickin on Ultraviolet
Great EP , loved all of it . The Void is even growing on me :)
Yeeeeesssss. Big time grower of a song.
No joke cellar door is a PED
I can lift at least 100 pounds more when it’s playing
💪🏻
😂 will have to try that. Was listening to the EP yesterday on the treadmill.
Love this whole EP. So good
"The modern fuck around." My new favorite sentence in the English language.
😅
Now in context, The Void sound me Much better
I'm really interested in how Josh feels about this vast variety of sounds since As I Lay Dying kinda stuck to their formula so to speak

They keep getting better and better! Zev on the drums tho! FACK!
100%!
A literal perfect EP. My ONLY complaint is they fumbled the bag HARD by not having some Josh vocals.
Vocally, he had a small part in Too Close/Too Late
@@RipleyE-we1hj wish he had his own section!

Angel Eyes is their best song to date.
I’m looking forward to hearing that one again. It slapped for sure.

The end of Ultraviolet builds because if you loop the EP, it flows into Cellar Door. An absolutely fantastic EP, Spiritbox are just on another level.
