    As a new fly fisherman, mainly inspired by the adventures on your channel, I really appreciate this. I’ve looked at every sling, chest, waist packs and as someone who day hikes into utahs alpine lakes, they didn’t make sense for me. Glad to revert to a company I already love, KUIU.
    Only complaint is I feel you are missing a gun, my friend. To each their own but there are scenarios bear spray won’t help you in. I’ve also had scary situations with stalking cats and 2 legged predators as well. Stay safe out there brother. Glad to see others carry a TQ.

      Thank you so much Hunter! We gotta get out and get after it while we can! Two days is tough but not impossible!

    Love the first aid stuff! I never go anywhere in the woods without a “plan B” prep! Something I would add is a chest seal.
    I was writing this after you finished the med kit and was also saying tourniquet but then you pulled it out!! 🎉🎉

    Great video Mike! Always helpful to get your perspective on what seemingly is mundane but makes all the difference if you use it correctly. I also agree 100% on the designs of backpacks. I’ve tried a good amount of options and manufacturers and at the end of the day I use an Osprey with those great hip pockets! Tight lines and thanks for the look behind the veil!

    • @FLYALLSZN

      ROB!! I think it is so easy to get comfortable with where you are and what you bring.. Murphy's law will always come back and bite you if you aren't ready! Osprey was right up there with the Kuiu! They had some really nice bags.

    Cool kit Mike! I would only add to the water bottle a Katadyn BeFree filter. It is great to drink from and save the bottle water for the trail. Thanks for sharing!

      I second the BeFree. Super easy to use and collapses down to the size of your fist. I tuck mine inside my waders or if wet wading I put it in my fly bag.

    Great review of your gear. This is one people should pay attention to. I carry a similar setup for the Driftless because you never know. Wouldn't be a bad idea to add a 10mm to your carry for your area.

    As an old Marine, I love the old school Ka-Bar with the taped up sheath. I had one just like that hanging from my gear in the early '90s. Still have the knife, but now its in a kydex sheath on my SWAT gear. And good on you for carrying a tourniquet.

    • @FLYALLSZN
      @FLYALLSZN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was always told to carry a good knife.. so I made sure to get the best knife. I run and work out so that the extra weight of seemingly silly stuff like a tourniquet don’t bother my shoulders when I pack in/out!

    That Kuiu is so drippy. Noticed it in your videos and was curious to see what it’s like. Just got the Arctetyx Khard pack, absolutely loving it so far!

    • @kalikasurf
      @kalikasurf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll second that, on kuiu! A couple extra bucks but it’ll be the last bag you’ll need. Plus the modularity with putting different bags on a single frame. Black Friday deals on now!
      The venture 1800 would carry a change of clothes, snacks and your rods, and you could rock a chest rig for the fly gear. If you hunt also……then you’re gonna want to get the hunting pack.

    When hiking into and out of the Rio Grande canyon do you wear your waders with the sandals or do you carry the waders and wear hiking boots? Hiking in waders is difficult especially climbing over obstacles. Does your pack carry the waders if not worn during hikes? I would’ve been nice to see you pack your equipment in the video. Thanks.
