    Think about the fact that we were the only ones that didn't send a distress signal. Since warpers communicate with the same radio frequencies as the pods, is possible that they located the other survivors because of this

    In the code Warpers are LITERALLY programmed to stalk you from relatively early into the game, the reason you feel like you’re being watched is because you ARE. Similar to real life you don’t have a sixth sense, your eyes have seen something your brain has not recognized yet. As such you “feel” like you’re being watched. It’s one more of the borderline sick psychological warfare the game plays upon the player. Warpers are programmed to occasionally wander to the edge of the player’s vision range upon detecting them, and just kind of “loom” nearby otherwise, waiting to strike.
    Never forget they’re ALWAYS there…watching…

    Crazy fan theory: the warpers do their job according to the lore. Hunt infected creatures (including humans) down.

    • @TheLastSane1
      @TheLastSane1 ปีที่แล้ว +578

      True but here is the thing. Many of those people NEVER left the pods and were waiting for rescue. So they would not be infected. So why would the Warpers kill them? Some of them where REALLY close to the shallows like the few sitting in the red grass area, those are not where Warpers or Reapers spawn so what happened there?

    • @connorsucks3847
      @connorsucks3847 ปีที่แล้ว +824

      @@TheLastSane1 The pods throughout the game are constantly shown to be EXTREMELY unreliable. Only half managed to make it off the aurora in the first place and of the ones that did make it to the planet, only around a dozen actually managed to preserve the life of their inhabitants. Those dozen are littered with mechanical issues with most being said to have sank upon arrival to the planet despite their floatation devices. All in all they were terrible quality and in the ocean a small hole can become a big hole VERY FAST. The pods around the shallows and safer areas could have been damaged by debris or stalkers (who notably collect metal pieces making them likely suspects when it comes to damaging important equipment).
      Also even IF the warpers killed all of them its not that difficult to explain away. The warpers had 1 core directive. Stop the spread of the virus. That could be accomplished by eliminating anything that could be infected however it could also be done by quarantining them all and then killing anyone who tries to leave. The pods sending out distress signals are a MASSIVE risk for the warpers because its essentially a massive flag saying "Please come to this planet" which is exactly what they don't want. Thats why our character never gets their pod attacked. Our radio is broken and even after we repair it, it only RECEIVES messages even though we know it should also be able to send them because the other pods can. Therefore it never sends out a beacon and we never get found. Also the warpers can teleport and much larger teleporters exist in the game so that could explain how they found people in the shallows but dont regularly hang out there

The Lifepod's SOS' were sent before Robinson was awakened and only received at the time you do. The "Nine new targets" is actually an intercepted message from the WARPERS, their radio frequency was similar to ALTERRA's and you're able to pick it up. By the time you get the "9 biological targets remaining" there are currently 8 other survivors fighing for their life on 4546B. Until ofc... you get the last WARPER MSG: "SUBJECT 11783 DESTROYED, ONE REMAINGING."

      The guy who made this video clearly didn’t read a singular lifepod log. Pretty much all of the life pod crew died in random ways that are described. The ones I can remember notably are lifepod 6, where the PDA literally records the death of the two women because the panicking one hits a fuel line with a flare. Then Pod 17, the guy is freaking out about a “grim looking snake thing” given its location next to one of the entrances to the jellyshroom caves, it was a crab snake that got him. Lifepod 13, Jochi Khasar’s lifepod chutes didn’t deploy and he died on impact with the water, his capsule sank after. Lifepod 7, the captains fabricator was busted and he kept just making random shit hoping something would work, and it’s implied that eventually something he made blew up and killed him. Lifepod 3, they were trying to supercharge a sea glide to outrun a swarm of stalkers as they bail. you find a sea glide fragment in the sand in close proximity to the pod, so that answers how that went. Lifepod 2 was 500M deep in crab squid/juvenile ghost leviathan territory, without tanks… that one’s pretty clear. Lifepod 4, right by the aurora, the guy made creature decoys to try and distract a reaper leviathan to get away, and it didn’t work out, not that it matters because he was deep in the radiation zone.

    I definitely know what you‘re talking about. The fear of the unknown, you are describing, kept me from completing my very first run of the game in legit ways. I used the console to teleport to the wrecks, like the coward I was. Though that‘s fortunately the only cheats I used. And I squeezed my cyclops through the blood kelp trench entrance to the lost river, only leaving it when absolutely necessary, terrified of every single little fish that hit my sub. In my defense, I was probably 12 back then.
    A couple years later I started a new run and explored all the biomes I missed out on back then, trying to get as close to 100% as I can. Totally worth it btw.
    Also, the mix of thalassophobia and fear of the unknown is what’s keeping me from completing Below Zero until this day.
    A truly horrific fear that is, but also part of what makes these two games so fascinating and special for me ❤

Subnautica is based on Thalassophobia which is the fear of what might be below or within the shadows of the blood kelp with a Ghost Leviathan or the dust of the Aurora with the Reaper Leviathan, or the void itself. Subnautica stimulates this fear when playing the game with its alien lifeforms making one's imagination go haywire wonder what else is there. Even though I don't have Thalassophobia I will admit there were times were it felt like I did until I reached the Lost River where everything felt like a breeze.

    That’s easy as to “why” they’re dead by the time you reach them…
    Either a Leviathan followed the pod as it submerged in certain areas or the Warpers intercepted the distress signal and got to them before you, after all the Warpers are the one in charge of Quarantine because of the infection going around on the planet and they were specifically made for that function since you learn about that detail when exploring certain precursor labs…
    It’s even more obvious since when you get the Enzyme on you after you free the Baby Emperors, the Warpers no longer try to attack you because you’re no longer exposed to the infection; since you were the only survivor that never sent out a distress signal but kept receiving them, that’s why eventually you also intercept the Warpers broadcasting information between each other and also why Warpers never roam around the starting point of the game but can be seen almost anywhere else where there any structure without a big Leviathan in direct proximity

    Technically, you are being more than watched. You are being electrically and telepathically located. So, in a way, even when you're in your base, they can see you clearer than you can see them with your eyes and lights.
    Much like hammerhead sharks and their electrosensory, the warpers (quarantine enforcement units) and some of the life down here can sense either electrical impulses or thoughts. The warpers job on this planet is to hunt down infected creatures.
    The emperor literally talks to your mind from within her cage. There is no need to lay eyes on you.
    The enforcement platform is literally watching everything that tries to come and go and shoot it down.
    Even the architect from the second game might be watching you.
    Some people think the cyclopse watches because of some of its unique dialogue. I just think it's being robotically observant/comical in a dry-humor kinda way. It has sensors and can detect the other alterra tech after all.
    Mesmers can not only read your mind but subliminally control you into swimming towards them. They do more than watch you. They control you.

    “Have you ever felt like you were being watched while playing Subnautica?”
    From the second I dipped my toes in that water I _KNEW_ I was being watched, and it didn’t stop until I got in the damn rocket to leave the planet.

    Simple theory.
    Some of the life pods describe having deadly creatures near them (one notes a nearby crabsnake cave, one is dangerously close to Crabsquids, one notes a nearby leviathan lurking around, etc)
    The others however, are from the Warpers. The Architects proved to have advanced biology with a language that worked more like radiowaves (AL-AN Sends signals to your PDA before taking shelter in your brain). So they would have created the Warpers with this in mind. And whats the one thing each of these attacks have in common? They let out an SOS signal... Complete with coordiates to their location. Your radio is badly damaged and doesnt allow to emit an outward signal, which is why they dont target you. The others are also found in deeper waters, which is has more fish affected by the Khaara virus, meaning Warpers were already in the area.
    The only thing that disproves this theory is that Warpers seem passive towards the player in the beginning until you start showing symptoms of the virus.
