Mario Ungaro is my great grandfather- It is such a cool experience to see him in color ( I've only ever seen black and white photo's of him) AND to hear his voice! Wow!!
Possibly the most unique star Hollywood ever produced. She created her own image - & gave the public what they wanted. A true free spirit. She mesmerized & haunted her fans far longer than others stars. She knew more about lighting, makeup and image it's amazing she never got a technical award. In the end, she left a remarkable legacy that hasn't been matched since, Thanks for posting.
@@d.7416 But she became American. She rejected/even denied all of her German film career except The Blue Angel, which was barely her start. Definitely a creature of Hollywood: 5515 Melrose Avenue.
I read that her dress was slit so high, the audience audibly sighed over the sight of her legs. I'm glad to see this. I've become a big fan of hers in the past year.
Dietrich at 50! What posture, what style! Who today possesses such Presence? Julie Andrews, maybe? Olivia DeHavilland, certainly. The rest? Go back to bed.
Thank you Academy for uploading this clip. I've read about it and visualized it and now we all can see it and appreciate it. Dietrich is breathtaking as she is brave.
It seems to be her trademark, she bows almost as if to cow-tow. What a gracious woman she seemed to be. Never seen any of her film, but her stature and reputation goes well before her.
the audience seems surprised that she was even more beautiful than her debut in the thirties. some stars never let themselves fall apart always staying true to their fans..there is still a lot of her life we don't.t know about should do a major Hollywood film about her
AHHHHHH when stars were stars and knew how to walk and dress. My fav foto of her was taken on the dock in NYC sitting on a mountain of gigantic trunks with legs crossed awaiting to be loaded on board La Normandie for a summer in Europe......AHHH such class
I saw Marlene in 1972. She wore a glittering peach colored dress, and the legendary swans down stole/ robe. She was stunning ! No photo does justice to the overwhelming impression of beauty. She was 71. Several years later while living in what was then West Berlin, I had a bit part in her last feature film " Just A Gigalo " co starring another legend David Bowie. Marlene's scenes were all shot in Paris, but David was my neighbor.
If they still had stars like this, perhaps I'd watch. The "Oscars" are a complete bore now. After the horrible things said about Kim Novak appreance, I doubt if I will waste my time.
That is a thunderous ovation, and well-deserved as Marlene was a hero during WWII. She looks stunning at age 50. Soon after this appearance, Marlene began her tremendously successful one-woman show in Las Vegas. She later toured the world.
Hey hey hey you guys !!! Before #Marilyn and #Madonna, there was a #Lady extremelly beautiful and sophisticated called: #MarleneDietrich for God Sake !!!🙌🙏🌹❤👑🇩🇪🇺🇸🇫🇷👏😎#diva #woman #icon
At least they shot the record of the event in color instead of black n white, even though there was no color t.v except for those mechanical color wheel experiments that failed that year from CBS.
Ohh... Ohh... Ohh! Marlene, on her right arm, is wearing her HUGE one of a kind Ruby & Diamond, Jarretiere Bracelet, by Van Cleef & Arpels! Marlene wore that iconic bauble in her movie ('Stage Fright'); and often as an accessory in her very stylish and storied private life. It was bought at auction after Marlene's death; by (Anne Eisenhower), the granddaughter of former President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, in 1992 for $990,000.00 and sold it at auction for over $4 million dollars in June of 2023.

Thank you so much for your nice words. you are so right. the most glamorous legend in the world
Sorry but Hollywood didnt produce her. Berlin film studios did. She was german.

She didnt know. Von sternberg taught het
The applause says it all - No award or recognition needed, period.
I could watch Marlene Dietrich walk for hours....more a stride than a walk....fantastic

@Truthfears Guilty carol lombard manly 😕 u must be kidding
JerseySurvivor Elizabeth Debicki
Nonsence ....
Cardi B too
I saw this dress recently, in the Marlene Dietrich collection in the cinema museum of Berlin...fabulous!
Another great Star shamefully ignored by the "Academy". There was plenty of time to honor her. Likewise for Swanson, Mae West, Doris Day.
Greta and Marlene deserved an oscar
@@jaimevillanuevavillanueva1134 Garbo at least got an Honorary Oscar.
Dietrich for The Scarlet Empress, Garbo for Queen Christina, and Swanson for Sunset Boulevard.
@@SymphonyBrahms Marlene Dietrich never won an Oscar. She was 1 time nominated in 1930/Morocco
She should have won an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement

She was unique. I can't stop staring at her.
that's such beautiful Dior gown I wanna drop dead she was breathtaking did you guys see the way she walked off the stage? holy ****
Where do you get that much class from??? Really, where does one learn that? That confidence, that elegance. That must have been something she learned.
Look at the way she moves her lips. It's hilarious. And so sensual.
prussian upbringing...it takes discipline and work.
That dress is fabulous.
"they don't make any medal for glamor."
Someone needs to get on that. Stat!
It seems to be her trademark, she bows almost as if to cow-tow. What a gracious woman she seemed to be. Never seen any of her film, but her stature and reputation goes well before her.
Iconic.
I admire very much this woman, an anti-nazi german who sang for american troops in Europe.
She's gorgeous. But being anti Nazi makes her even more gorgeous. And many Germans called her a traitor.
Painfully glamorous in Dior couture.
That dress is GORGEOUS
Yes, she looks amazing on this clip.
Shes so STUNNING !

Her daughter wrote a book about her. She was no angel. LOL.
Thanks for uploading - this is simply great - beautiful Marlene - forever !
Christian Dior really understood how to dress women to be beautiful, elegant, glamorous, and sophisticated. A stunning dress worn by a stunning woman.

Stars like her don't exist.
it wasnt said about Novak, it was said about her surgeon. And he definitely deserved public shaming.
Just beautiful!
Rashomon should have received the foreign language award that year. Imagine seeing Dietrich presenting to Kurosawa. That would have been classic.
Rashomon won the following year
What a beautiful woman!
Wow! Astaire and Dietrich ♥♥ my favorites!
Mine too, one a little bit more, than the other ! ;-))
Haha! Me too!!! No words needed! ;-)
Elizabeth Abrantes
Well, I always have the last word, LOL !! ;-))
AWESOME ! :-))
Ok... but you got my point, didn't you? We don't need words to say who we like more! Haha!

Of course, I sure got your point :-))

I don't understand, how such an actress could not win an Oscar?

Besides her elegance, she was very attractive and sexy! Everything she does is just fantastic
