Trying it right now, been on resolve but was curious with the update. But honestly I'm shocked how slow the processing still is. Resolve has been much faster personally. But I haven't given it the fairest shot yet still testing but just saying on first trial not amazed tbh. Ahem although the accuracy has been better

I think if we want to avoid from being disappointed, we shouldn't expect anything 'crazy' in terms of improvement. A little improvement is better than none. just my 2 cents.

I think it's too early to name it Rotobrush 3.0. Rotobrush 2.5 would be acceptable.

Is impressive how Adobe, being a giant, only walks tiny steps with roto... Mask Prompter and Davinci´s Magic Mask are insane; for Rotobrush 3 we need to test it and see if it crash all the time as rotobrush 2; do you know if rotobrush 3 uses gpu acceleration or just cpu?

i really wish our company(which has Nuke based comp system) to take AEs Rotobrush seriously. In baking core matte circumstances, it really works absolutely fantastic...

I mean fine and dandy for fast action where you can get away with missing fingers, but man, I still really struggle to use it with the slower shots I've been given and on 4K shots, oof, it takes so longer to render - better to just pre-render a matte if you're doing projects where things will change.

Anyone whose been in the industry and spent hours/days on these nightmare shots can really appreciate the advancements. The 'refine edges' is the killer part, putting it above Runway and Resolve in a GUI that is easy to understand and functional enough for fine tuning. Adobe got something right. heh
Roto as an entry level position is going to go the same route as a tape room operator: dead as a dodo. Sad, but that's tech progress.

I tested on my side, Rotobrush 3.0 on After Effects and Magic Mask on Davinci Resolve
After effects complated same work in 6.5 minutes and had to cache same clip for 2.5 minutes to watch. 9 Minutes total.
Davinci Resolve complated it in 4 seconds. Instant playback
When we ignore waiting time and watching for results: After effects is far behind from Davinci. I think adobe may remove that feature, its just doesn't work.

🔅The "AI" roto brush in RunwayML is really not very good. Yes, for people who move against an nonkeyed BG, it's much easier to get a matte than Mocha Pro. But when you get into the details, and _roto is all about the details_, you'll find edges get cut off, hair strands especially go missing, and the first frame often has jaggy edges (in Runway greenscreen).
🔅I've found if you crank up the contrast before sending to Runway, then use the export matte as a luma or alpha layer over the original (without high contrast) clip, Runway works better. Sometimes I add a red border for clips where the character comes into or out of frame, then get rid of the border from the Runway export. That can help b/c Runway doesn't like characters touching the frame edge either.
🔆If Rotobrush 3.0 can capture hair strands and deal with low contrast edges better in nonkeyed clips, then it'll be a major step forward.

Rotobrush 3.0 is disappointing if you compare it to what Runway ML and Resolve have done with their rotoscoping tools. I love After Effects, but Adobe is making it easier to look for better alternatives, at least for these tasks.

Why TH-camrs always use videos that don’t exist in real filmmaking? Of course the tool will work with stock footage perfectly shot, tu filmmaking isn’t always perfect. Cámara shake, camera defocus, lighting issues, etc…..you’re cheating people by showing this tools this way. 99% of footage has camera blur, and this tool is proven to malfunction with blurred edges…..so….
