I just fixed mine on Sunday 7/24/22 on my 1991 Buick Park Avenue, BUT I PERMANENTLY REMOVED THE SWITCH. I simply found the sweet spot for the height of the pull-down latch bar, & set it to be (via a temporary direct connection to the motor) and now my trunk closes & seals like A REGULAR TRUNK DOES -- MANUALLY without ever needing to engage the motor again.
@@FamousAndFallenim doing this now, the silver latch that goes up and down can be removed from its housing and you turn it clockwise and it will lower and you can put it back in its housing. Trying to find the sweet spot will take a couple tries tho I’m currently still at it after 3 tries
It is now 2022/23 and this part is no longer manufactured. I ordered a used one off of eBay it doesn't work either but there is an extra little switch that the big switch should hit when you close the trunk lid does not engage. So check that little switch first and it is probably stuck in the down position. Try blowing it out lubricating and reinstalling and see if that fixes it first.
Took one out of a 93' yesterday and due to inavailability of the part I disassembled the switch. It is possible to drill out the rivets but the large one where the mounting screw passes through was harder then the small ones to get out. The contacts were pretty gummed up inside but I was able to clean them and reassemble the switch and it worked fine again.

Man i miss my 93 deville never had a trunk promblem but had fuse nihgt mare at on time other then that greatest riding caddy ever had beside 89 fleetwood

@@southerncadman7066 Yes. You said the switch "is almost always what's going to be bad". I guess for $25 maybe I should just invest in that switch. I thought I was going to have to buy a new motor, which is considerably more expensive. The fuse is good. Thanks again.
Damit man I got a 91coupe DeVille with the same problem , but it did not have that paddle switch, had a different thing made of clear plastic , ordered one from e bay that showed a identical part for 90$ what was sent was a black plastic one that looked the same,so I tried it, did not work,but when I close the trunk it doesn't look sprung anymore, someone must have tried to use a different GM part on it,cos what I have is not like that.
You may be one of the unlucky 1% that has a bad motor... But if trunk closed lower, it sounds like it is trying to work. There is a limiter switch that has to be configured a certain way as well. You might need to look at that.
Any chance you have the link for the switch or the brand and part number for the switch. I found every switch but that one at AutoZone and only the entire assembly on line.
I cant find the switch only anywhere, only the whole assembly for 2-300 bucks. is there a part number i can search?? i got the motor to work a little so im certain you are correct and its just the switch
Question Cad man, I have a 1991 Brougham, Just last week driving down road, and all of a sudden my trunk motor began running without any indication, I pulled off to a parking lot and tried to open and close hoping the motor would stop, but the trunk was not latching to the mechanism, it just kept running, I got to the gas station, then tried to leave but the battery had already run down due to the constant running of the trunk motor, Do you perhaps know what caused this ?, I had to pull the fuse under the dash, leaving me with no Power locks, Seats, or horn , and the trunk is not properly snugly closed, Will it drip water in the trunk if I go through the car wash ?, Please advise, if you know Sir, Thank you.
Mine is not pulling down. Haynes manuals are completely useless on all things electrical. It doesn't even have a section acknowledging there is a trunk pull down system. I pulled mine and ran jumpers to the motor and it retracted. I reinstalled it and out of habit I plugged the harness back to the switch. When I did the damn motor extended. I was just wanting the lid to shut low enough to keep water out. I didn't expect the motor to engage at all as it wouldn't retract. I felt like a dumbass when it extended. After I threw my tools out. And the crap back in the trunk. I slammed it and started applying calamine on the countless mosquito bites I collected while having my ass handed to me by my car. I I tried checking continuity on the switch when I had the unit apart but with no schematic in the Hanes manual I couldn't tell much. I did find that with the small lower switch in the lower position I had continuity on one terminal that switched to another when I clicked the switch upward. And similar results with the large paddle switch engaged or disengaged. I've been trying to find the latch assembly but it's been discontinued by Cadillac and every one I found online was not available. I'll see if I can find the switch itself. Caution to those working on this assembly. The casing of the worm gear that the motor mounts to and is what attached the assembly to the metal brace in the truck is acrylic. It's fragile and the bolts that secure it are coarse threaded. There are three bolts that hold it in place. Don't fully install any of the bolts until you have all three successfully started. When you're sure they are threading in correctly hold the assembly to the brace and gently tighten the bolts. Just snug. Don't crank it down as it will brake the assembly

The spring is usually good. It is usually the electronics that fo bad inside the switch.

I have a 95 ,Sedan Daville and end up being that. It's the gear that connects the motor with the switch and the pull down.

I’m not sure. You may have a broken plastic worm gear. You’ll probably have to take it apart to get a look at what’s going on.
