Funny thing about the live Action Mulan. I work as an English teacher in China. And I did see this in the theater here. Having seen the original several times I cringed through pretty much the whole movie while my wife, who had never seen the animated movie said she thought it was pretty good. Then we went home and I showed her the animated movie and she realized that the live action one we had just watched was pretty bad. lol
The Mulan live-action movie was actually a pretty good Wuxia martial arts fantasy flick. China cranks out a hundred of them a year and I watch them occasionally. What it was NOT was a decent live action version of a Disney musical. They just were not THINKING when they put this together.
There're multiple live action Mulan are pretty good but Disney version is the worst Non of the writers have much knowledge about Chinese culture, almost the whole cast beside the father are just bland. Their reason remove Li Shang and war musical are plain stupid, one of the main antagonist being a Witch(what?) and she just a worse Dark Vader The fact there're alot more culture flaw in Live action than animated Mulan that it's not funny

I honestly have a fond memory of The Lone Ranger. I saw the movie in theaters when I was 11 with my grandpa, who LOVED old western movies. And I remember at the end of the movie Johnny Depp’s character gives the kid who he’s telling the story too a silver bullet. And my grandpa leaned over to me and like sounded excited telling me that he gives him the silver bullet. He passed away almost two years ago, but that’s still one of my favorite memories of him
I'm still pissed about John Carter, because although it wasn't a masterpiece, it's still a legit solid film that I loved watching in theaters. I feel it deserved far more than it was given and am sad it died before giving us more.

I do think it’s funny how Fox tried so hard to make Anastasia a Disney style movie, that decades later it worked too well & a lot of people just think it is a Disney movie and are blown away when they find out it’s not 🤣 I do love Titan A.E. though, real shame it didn’t do better
@@SteeZy644 It's Disney-owned now, but not a Disney movie. The original Star Wars Trilogy isn't a Disney movie either, just because Disney now owns LucasFilms.
I've heard something interesting about Anastasia and Don Bluth's others Disney-style movie, Thumbelina. According to some, when those movies were shown to a test audience there were versions that featured the Walt Disney Pictures logo before the movie started, the people who thought they were made by Disney gave them a better reception that those who were aware that they weren't made by Disney. I think it kind of shows how well aware people are about Disney's brand recognition, nowadays people kind of know what to expect depending on the animation studio, like Pixar, DreamWorks and Illumination
Treasure Planet was that Disney deliberately screwed the animation team by moving the movie to a November release when it should have come out during the summer. Meaning it had to compete with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it never stood a chance in hell. On top of the fact it was poorly marketed (the marketing it got made it the opposite of what the movie was actually about). It's the rare one out in this case where the movie is genuinely good in both story and animation but due to external reasons it failed. Had it come out in today's day and age it would have done a lot better. Props to Cats, it managed to not only terrified me but also traumatized and scarred me for the rest of my life. A feat no horror film prior managed to accomplish.
That reminds me of why Rise of the Guardians failed. It was released at the same time as Breaking Dawn part 2 and Lincoln. It also was released right after Brave. There was too much competition for it to succeed.
@@Moonlitwatersofaqua If you want another example of a movie flopping because of when it was released, Hocus Pocus flopped because it was released in summer instead of around Halloween. Now it’s considered an absolute Halloween cult classic, but still… why release a Halloween movie during summer?
Well, to be fair to Turning Red the film only got cinema releases in a small number of markets overseas that didn't have Disney plus, so there was no way it was going to make its money back through the box office.
@DylanNicolasSG Though unlike Raya and Lightyear, Encanto actually saw new life after more people actually saw the film on Disney+ and its songs became really popular.
Fun fact about Monster Trucks, the movie was delayed a couple of years because the monsters' original designs were so scary that it scared a whole test audience full of children. Yes, Paramount made the same mistake they did with Sonic. They corrected their designs but, unlike the Sonic movie, it didn't help
It was shelved for about 1 year, it was originally set to release in late 2015 and finally released in January 2017 (which is basically a spot for movies that are dead on arrival). And when it was eventually released, there was barely any marketing for it. I only know it exists because the main actor starred in the reboot of MacGyver.
I genuinely don't know where I seen this movie either, but I actually didn't mind it, it was just a fun stupid family movie, but was like a breath of fresh air from the copy paste formula of post MCU Hollywood
Fun fact : The animations in FF: spirit within are made with mocap suits but ALL the facials animation are made by hand ! When you know this, this movie is fucking impressive
Fun fact about the failure of Battleship, one of the Hasbro employees from 2012 blamed it’s failure for derailing their plans for a shared Hasbro universe. They had plans to use the Transformers Aligned Continuity as a jumping-off point for a shared Hasbro universe between them, G.I.Joe, Battleship, Stretch Armstrong, M.A.S.K., ROM Spaceknight and Candyland (No I’m not kidding). But one of the Hasbro employees, Rick Alvarez, blamed the failure of Battleship for screwing up their plans for the shared universe.
@@adams.2407 I'm amazed that they didn't put MLP on that universe for some reason despite being one of their well known franchises along side Transformers. ( Don't worry, I stopped being a brony a long time ago XD )
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas is actually one of my favorite animated movies of all time. It even inspired me to write my own pirate novel, in which I borrowed several elements from it. It's such a shame the movie bombed so hard, it really deserves more appreciation in my opinion. I still listen to the soundtrack almost every day, it really is that good.
I still don't understand why they didn't just use costumes for Cats. It seems to have worked fine enough for the stage show and it would have been less uncanny Valley than we ended up with
I wish they would’ve used costumes, or even better just made an animated version. Steven Spielberg had an animated adaption of Cats in the works but it was cancelled, just looking at the character concept art makes me so upset on what we missed out for Furry James Corden 😭
It’s a decently good movie. I was surprised to find I like it. Mulan I did not like much. Probably wouldn’t want to see it again despite some cool action.
I'd assume it was because the movie came out in February 2020, and probably would've left cinema cirulation just as shit was starting to hit the fan in mid-to-late March.
My family must have been the only people who saw Mars Needs Moms in our country. The entire cinema was empty on opening day and no one was talking about it at the time. Also I find it funny how Disney tried hard to make their own star wars and avatar with john carter, only for it to fail and for them to buy up the competition.
The reason why Monster Trucks had such a big budget was that they had to redo the cgi for the movie because the monster original design was terrifying, so scary in fact that when they showed to a test audience the movie most kids ran away screaming and crying. This forced the studio to redo all the cgi and reshoot part of the movie in order to make it much, much less scary.
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo I think that they didn’t have a chance to do that. They probably invested so much money into it that they only could invest more money into it in order to finish the movie and release it in cinemas hoping to recover some of what they spent.
@@emanuelepolloni4002 No, they pretty much knew that they would lose money on this, even before they had one year of expensive reshoots and digital editing. And then they released it in January, which is basically the month where movies go to die, without any advertisement. If they had scrapped it before the reshoots and digital editing started, they could have shelved it and cut their losses, instead of throwing more money at it.
@@MyRegardsToTheDodo And then they would have lost EVEN MORE MONEY since there were probably some "sponsors" behind this movie that would have wanted the cash they gave the studio to make this movie back with interests. Plus there have been many times where studios make insurances on movies they know will flop in order to "recover their losses" or wrote them off as tax breaks or something similar. So in the end while it bombed hard the company probably still recovered some of their losses thanks to some good old fashioned Hollywood Accounting.
Fun Fact: I saw Cats (2019) in the same auditorium that I would then see Everything Everywhere All at Once in just a few years later. The latter was pretty packed, while Cats had like 4 other people if I recall (can't imagine why, LOL)
I watched Spirit RELENTLESSLY as a child! And to this day, it is still a gem to my eye! Matt Damon narrating, Bryan Adams crooning and Hans Zimmer vibing!
The reason why Peter Jacckson gets credited for many things he doesnt make is because he cofounded the company Weta which is a huge vfx company. Thats why for years we all thought that District 9 was a Peter Jackson film even thought he didnt.
This might be something kinda weird to say, but thank DiamondBolt for defending the Cats cgi people! I ended up reading a lot about the making up of it just to understand how some thing like THAT was made, and felt really bad about them; so many people just blame the cgi departament for it being bad while the studios made their lifes hell.
Not to be "that guy," but most of the supposed rumors about Cats' VFX woes came from one anonymous thread on Reddit. A lot of it (such as the "buttholes" thing) isn't even true, and it frustrates me that people not only blame the VFX artists but also Tom Hooper and the rest of the filmmakers for stuff that was made up by the internet for lulz. Also it had more than one company working on it, so the "they took 6 months to do the trailer but then only had 4 months to do the whole movie" part doesn't even make sense.
@@octogigas There's a Daily Beast article that confirms the butthole rumors, as well as the fact that the trailer took six months to make. Also not sure why you wanna defend Tom Hooper, when he literally chastised the artists for doing their job.
I expected the cats movie to be just godawful at a Mission Bay, Auckland cinema. Instead, the film actually gave me a couple of moments that are both good and unexpectedly funny. Fair enough, Jason Derulo is decent (though not quite great) while Francesca Hayward is totally improving her way through.
Remember watching "Mars Needs Mom" back in high school. My mom died couple weeks before that. Of course I cried the hardest in front of a lot of my friends. Some of them were laughing at me. Bet they still have their mother by their side🤷🏻♂️

It's actually a bit of a miracle that _John Carter_ didn't completely sink the live-action division of Disney feature films. Maybe the early success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was the reason why.
I actually remember watching Mars Needs Moms and liking it as a kid, but that was mostly because of the thicc aliens. I wasn't really disturbed by the awful animation because by that time I had already watched the ring and knew what true fear was.
Honestly the Sinbad movie is highly underrated and a lot of fun to watch (and the animation on Eris is absolutely breathtaking and more than holds up today)
Considering the fact that there's only a 4 year gap between Spirits Within and Advent Children, the upscale in animation quality is seriously insane. The animation in SW wasn't mostly bad, but there's a few sequences in AC that age very well even today.
"It was 2001 and video games looked like this" *proceeds to show PS1 Hagrid, the most beautiful man known to mankind* As someone who's actually seen Mars Needs Moms...I can confirm that it's worth the hate. Like how could Disney look at that gross mess and say "Yup, this is cinema"? It feels like a Nickelodeon movie, not a Disney one! Also, I adored Turning Red and it definitely didn't deserve that treatment. I find the controversies surrounding it silly, like the period scene doesn't last long, you can just skip it (and MrEnter's review is...something). Or how it only appeals to a very specific demographic...I'm not Chinese (I'm Latino and our parents act similar) nor Canadian and yet I still enjoyed it! The animators at Pixar put their heart and soul (pun intended) into these movies, and the least Disney can do is treat them right.
You mentioning Titan A.E. brought back some deep childhood memories lol. I don't even remember much of the plot of that movie, but I do remember watching it with my mother a long time ago.
Honestly the controversy of the main actress’ opinions and the fact it was filmed outside a Uighur concentration camp killed Mulan more than the pandemic ever did
So many of the older movies that flopped were movies that I enjoyed a lot and would still find enjoyable if I watched them today. I would personally rate a lot of them higher than movies that come out today cause they were different and unique. Ps: I watched like almost all the older movies that were shown in the video and was shocked and kinda sad to see some of them were flops. Maybe this is why a lot of studios now days stick to the usual stories and not branch them further.
One of the problems I remember with Mortal Engines was I think a lot of fans of the book got turned off because the main protag (Hester, the girl with the red scarf) is described as having incredibly visible facial scarring, and it's kind of a key character detail and plot significant detail but the film adaptation toned that down massively. I think it also had the problem that some other book adaptations get where the books are popular, but in a niche way and are kind of hard to market to a mainstream filmgoing audience so you run the risk of creating something that pleases no one
With turning books into movies there's a somewhat expectation that some things while get changed for me personally I like how they handled Shrike and Thaddeus valentine including the design of London but that's all I liked from the movie.
I remember seeing the trailers for John Carter on TH-cam a whole lot and getting them confused with the Prince of Persia movie for some reason. I actually recently remembered them and asked myself, "what was the desert action movie with the shirtless guy who has a tall green man tell him that he's beautiful? Because it definitely wasn't Prince of Persia." Long story short, this video came out at a really convenient time for me. Also, the ending bit of this video where the curb your enthusiasm music transitioned into the outro music made me laugh and I don't even know why.
The John Carter film was based on the John Carter books by the man behind Tarzan. It is decent, but it flopped so hard at the box office mostly because of how terrifyingly long its development hell was. No wonder why Tarzan Succeeded So Well and John Carter became more low key (due to the literary series being more old fashioned than Star Wars).
Yeah I also confused those two when I was little. But it got even sillier for me cause for a short period of time I thought that "John Carter" was the name of Prince's lead actor.
Fun fact about Pluto Nash: I live in an area where they would frequently test screen movies before the official release, so you could stand in line and get free tickets. This was the only test screening I went to where literally half of the theater walked out of the movie. So it was so bad, that even free tickets couldn't convince people to watch it to the end.
Kinda like Drop Dead Fred. It Bombed because people walked out the theater. My Mom and I were among those who got up and left the theater after an Hour.
The second you brought in the poster for Mars Needs Moms, a wave of nostalgia flooded my mind. I honestly don't remember the alien designs being that weird looking. What happened 😂 ?
Great video, as always. But no mention of the small but significant Zzyzyx Road, the $2 million western film that only grossed $30 (yes, $30.) at the box office.
With Monster Trucks, they originally had a different more monstrous design for the Monster, and apparently at Test Screenings the creature horrified kids in the audience so they had to go back and redo the creature and delay the film.
John Carter and The Lone Ranger always felt to me like they deserved more attention for how unique they were for live action Disney movies, a Confederate on Mars and the Wild West.
John Carter: I hate you Jack Sparrow: I missed the part where that's my problem. John Carter: It doesn't make sense that just a theme park ride can become such a successful franchise Jack Sparrow: Gonna cry? Let's be honest, the real reason that these movies fail is because they don’t have Adam Sandler. Fun Fact, Disney's Winnie the Pooh movie (Disney's final hand-drawn film) from 2011 flopped horribly in the box office due to it releasing on the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)
I loved Titan AE. Not sure why it flopped. Great cast, interesting story, amazing soundtrack. I've still got some of those songs in rotation in my playlists.
Final Fantasy Spirits Within looked groundbreaking at the time! I remember I was in high-school and a friend of mine let us borrow the DVD. We didn't care that it had nothing to do with Final Fantasy the video games. It just looked really cool, and got us excited for the future of animation. I have a theory that it's in the same universe as Starship Troopers, just further in the future. 😁
I remember seeing John Carter and genuinely loving it. I watched it again a year ago and it's definitely not as good as I thought it was when it came out. I was also 9. That said, I still thought it was like okay.
As someone who watched it as an adult back then, I thought it was a solid movie, but the high budget and horrible marketing campaign basically burried it from the start. Plus it's bases of a book that is basically one of the grandfathers of Science Fiction now, so the story is a bit outdated in terms of what is/was th current fashion for SciFi.
I find it so unfair that people with actual talent and competent ability to make good stories get turned down in exchange to instead go for less competent/clearly un-creative creations! It’s not fair!
It's great how a company will often close an entire studio after, say, a $35 million loss and call it a bomb when they've paid the actors and producers twice that amount... God forbid the Above the Line costs should ever suffer.
I was there in real time for FF: Spirits Within, as part of the target demographic (I turned 16 that Summer) and I can tell you that movie, and its association to the FF franchise, was actually creating a lot of buzz. Remember, the latest FF title at that point was FFVIII, who everyone had gone nuts over, and The Most Overrated Game of All Time was still only four years old, and widely discussed in gaming circles... So, yeah. The name recognition definitely did work.
Imagine spending like 700 million dollars or something just to advertise furries, you can do that shit for free on Twitter and TH-cam PS: I genuinely feel bad for the artists that worked on cats
6:47 I actually kind of like John Carter. The creature designs, effects, and lore generally go hard, and it manages to replicate the almost mythical 20th century pulp feel without noticeably dragging along the stereotypes and baggage of that era. Plus, the nephew or son or whoever at the end is directly implied to be Edgar Rice Burroughs himself, so it earns my engagement.
Coincidentally I just watched Titan A.E. (2000) the other day...Also, I am so glad you didn't roast or make fun of Rob Cohen's movie Stealth (2005) starring Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx. I think that lost money too. Probably too generic to talk about but that's what I like!
I hope you do it again. Because there are other films to talk about that diddnt make their cash back. I mean, The Bobs burgers movie(my favorite film of 2022 thus far)flopped too and yet the reviews online are overwhelmingly awesome.
I remember renting John Carter, it was pretty good, then asked myself, “How come the railer didn’t mention the plot” the trailers were just 30 second teasers.
2:18 The biggest issue with the Cats film (beyond everything) is that the source material doesn't lend itself well for a movie format. Cats is a musical that emphasizes the music and dancing more than the story. The whole cats gathering and begging for death thing is just setup to have these cats dance and sing about themselves. You can't translate the theater experience of a musical like Cats into a live-action film without making people confused and angry. 6:41 I remember seeing a few ads for this movie. I bet one of the reasons it did so terribly was the premise. It's a Mars isekai starring a cowboy with one of the most generic names in the universe. Apparently this was based on some obscure sci-fi novel written in 1912... It probably says a lot when more people remember Dune when they think of sci-fi novels. 8:43 This was also based on a book series nobody cares about! From what I know this movie sucked. The editing is very bad despite the high budget and special effects. 11:15 Turning Red was an especially upsetting case because the creators genuinely wanted it to be in theaters. But due to a combination of the sickness and the higher-ups thinking it wouldn't do well (and also being jerks), it ended up on Disney+ instead. 12:37 OHHHH GOD THIS ONE This almost killed Squaresoft, by the way. They were only saved after they merged with Enix (company that does the Dragon Quest series). After that it's been... A ride. They kinda tried the 3D model actor thing again with Lighting from FF13 showing up in a few fashion advertisements, but it never really stuck. Also Square Enix almost ran themselves out of business again with FF14 1.0, but that's a story I think most people know by now.
Cats was originally a book of poems about quirky cats, which the musical adapted into a narrative. But the movie got that bit...wrong. The John Carter novels are rather well-known; being by the author of Tarzan doesn't hurt, either.
I had no idea that so many of the films I vividly remember from my childhood were flops. That Final Fantasy movie, John Carter, Battleship, Titan AE, etc, are all favourites from when I was a kid. I watched FF at my grandparents after renting it from Blockbuster, I also caught Titan AE on cartoon network there. I watched John Carter on TV at my mums, also Battleship from the blockbuster near our place. The good old days, before social media and streaming services. TAKE ME BACK TO BEING A KID PLEASE I HATE TAXES
A few of these are legitimately depressing, some poor director and group of writers finally got the chance to tell a story they wanted to tell, with the studio actually letting them, and then the stupid public decides that their movie isn't good enough to watch so they go watch a dumb, worse blockbuster and then there are films like Morbius which are doomed from the start anyway because the studio is stupid. Maybe more stupid then the public.
Ah man King Arthur Legend of the Sword. One of the most underrated blockbusters ever it's so stylish, metal and entertaining. I cant believe it bombed but bloody Venom makes 800 million there is no justice in the world
I actually watched John Carter in theaters when I was 10 years old and I remember almost nothing of it. All I know is that my family and I went to see it. Some might say "Well you were 10 of course you don't remember." And to that I say I watched Toy Story 3 (2010) and Avatar (2009) when they came out (toy story 3 on opening week actually) and I remember way more from those experiences then I did with John Carter.
Disney self sabotaged Treasure Planet because they wanted to kill deep canvas. They did the same with John Carter because they didn't want to make the whole trilogy. Both are fantastic movies

I do think it’s funny how Fox tried so hard to make Anastasia a Disney style movie, that decades later it worked too well & a lot of people just think it is a Disney movie and are blown away when they find out it’s not 🤣 I do love Titan A.E. though, real shame it didn’t do better

Well Fox got bought by Disney so they’re technically right now
@@SteeZy644 It's Disney-owned now, but not a Disney movie. The original Star Wars Trilogy isn't a Disney movie either, just because Disney now owns LucasFilms.
@@SteeZy644 no they're not...
I love the meme of Goku telling Vegeta "Let's fight where we can't hurt anyone." And it's them in a movie theater playing something that flopped.
I especially saw that meme when Birds of Prey and Lightyear not long after Sonic and Minions released
I saw that meme when Morbius was rereleased.
Nice.
Let's fight somewhere where it's empty.
@@BallisticGhast6 BoP was released in 2020 💀
Treasure Planet was that Disney deliberately screwed the animation team by moving the movie to a November release when it should have come out during the summer.
I kinda wish I got to see that in the theater
@@michaelnally2841 unfortunately, Disney still too scared to release them in Cinemas anyway...
Because Disney don't give a $#*t!!!
Either that or it's Mr Enter's fault that the film flopped.
@DylanNicolasSG Though unlike Raya and Lightyear, Encanto actually saw new life after more people actually saw the film on Disney+ and its songs became really popular.
11:57 I mean this film was also filmed next to an ACTIVE CONCENTARTION CAMP WHICH IS THANKED IN THE CREDITS
Never knew when that movie came out until now, haven't watch too.
I know a kid who watched that movie daily for months. He loved it. It wasn’t the worst movie I’ve seen. I can watch it if it’s on.
I actually watched Monster Trucks. Don’t remember it being good, but I watched it.
I genuinely don't know where I seen this movie either, but I actually didn't mind it, it was just a fun stupid family movie, but was like a breath of fresh air from the copy paste formula of post MCU Hollywood

I'll have to check it out if it's that good
I loved that movie too
I still don't understand why they didn't just use costumes for Cats. It seems to have worked fine enough for the stage show and it would have been less uncanny Valley than we ended up with
Because Hollywood always thinks CGI means success
They may of thought it would’ve looked cheap.
I wish they would’ve used costumes, or even better just made an animated version. Steven Spielberg had an animated adaption of Cats in the works but it was cancelled, just looking at the character concept art makes me so upset on what we missed out for Furry James Corden 😭
I still love how one of the only movies to really survive the pandemic was Sonic The Hedgehog of all things
Because he's a famous video game character and when they actually changed his model it made everyone want to see it now
It’s a decently good movie. I was surprised to find I like it. Mulan I did not like much. Probably wouldn’t want to see it again despite some cool action.
Maybe because they took the risk and changed the design bc they knew they had a decent movie.
I'd assume it was because the movie came out in February 2020, and probably would've left cinema cirulation just as shit was starting to hit the fan in mid-to-late March.
I guess you could say he... outran it.
My family must have been the only people who saw Mars Needs Moms in our country. The entire cinema was empty on opening day and no one was talking about it at the time.
Also I find it funny how Disney tried hard to make their own star wars and avatar with john carter, only for it to fail and for them to buy up the competition.
I only remembered the commercials for the film, and I never heard of it again
I was probably in the corner somewhere then haha.
It was a fun film from what I can remember watching it when it came out on DVD
John Carter is actually gaining a cult following now.
They should have scrapped it right there and then, would probably have been way cheaper.
That's honestly hilarious like how do you goof that bad

As someone who's actually seen Mars Needs Moms...I can confirm that it's worth the hate.
That film is deep in my memory too, but I do remember plot points. I also remember my mum covering my eyes when the girl comes out the shower.
I still have that DVD somewhere (and the DVD for Final Fantasy Spirits Within). I liked both movies quite a lot.
I liked it. And it's free on youtube
Honestly the controversy of the main actress’ opinions and the fact it was filmed outside a Uighur concentration camp killed Mulan more than the pandemic ever did
I mean, you'd wish that was the reason. The truth is most people who watch the live-action Disney movies don't do any research into things like that.
What doomed JC was trying to adapt a Golden Age Sci-fi novel by ERB to draw a modern audience that knew nothing about the source material...

Yes, the Wild West is a very unique setting. Barely any movies are set in that era :)
Agree, John Carter deserved more respect and should have been successful
Bro. John Carter had some awful acting. I remember leaving the movie theater out of boredom. I was 23 at the time.
Actually they both sucked pretty bad....that's probably the main reason they flopped.

Jack Sparrow: I missed the part where that's my problem.
John Carter: It doesn't make sense that just a theme park ride can become such a successful franchise
Jack Sparrow: Gonna cry?
Let's be honest, the real reason that these movies fail is because they don’t have Adam Sandler. Fun Fact, Disney's Winnie the Pooh movie (Disney's final hand-drawn film) from 2011 flopped horribly in the box office due to it releasing on the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)

That twist ending really blew my mind back then. 😅
13:13 it's not like any other Final Fantasy entry has any thing to do with one another
I find it so unfair that people with actual talent and competent ability to make good stories get turned down in exchange to instead go for less competent/clearly un-creative creations!
It’s not fair!
Paycheques are frankly everywhere.

So, yeah. The name recognition definitely did work.

The biggest issue with the Cats film (beyond everything) is that the source material doesn't lend itself well for a movie format. Cats is a musical that emphasizes the music and dancing more than the story. The whole cats gathering and begging for death thing is just setup to have these cats dance and sing about themselves. You can't translate the theater experience of a musical like Cats into a live-action film without making people confused and angry.
6:41
I remember seeing a few ads for this movie.
8:43
This was also based on a book series nobody cares about! From what I know this movie sucked. The editing is very bad despite the high budget and special effects.
11:15
Turning Red was an especially upsetting case because the creators genuinely wanted it to be in theaters. But due to a combination of the sickness and the higher-ups thinking it wouldn't do well (and also being jerks), it ended up on Disney+ instead.
12:37
OHHHH GOD THIS ONE
This almost killed Squaresoft, by the way.

Oh yeah. That was very sad and you’d think it’ll get more recognition after a week or so, but then Jurassic World 3 came out and it was only ever talked about on twitter for a day
Lol I saw both bobs burgers and top gun in the same day it was a double feature. I'm a big fan of the bobs burgers series so I liked the movie which was basically just a higher budget long episode but then Top Gun Maverick was just phenomenal.
John Carter was a great movie, so was battleship. 🤘 They both deserve a sequel. 👍
John Carter is actually my Dad’s all time favorite movie
amazing video! i really like when you cover multiple titles under one topic in a single video!
It’s so impressive how one can make such a cinematic masterpiece, such as Cats, and it flops, crazy right.
“It’s Disney they can afford it” that aged poorly
9:27 damn i remember when me and my brother went go see the second Michael bay tmnt movie in 2016, saw a trailer for Monster Trucks before it and proceeded to laugh our asses off for 10 minutes straight because it was so stupid. pretty sure some bald dude in front of us got pissed
Holy crap, I was wondering why I hadn't seen any of your videos in my feed! TH-cam hasn't shown your videos in notifications, so I'll try my best to watch everything I've missed. Good to see you again, Adam.
