How do you prevent spider mites?

Excellent experiment!..i occasionally get a spider mite 8n the system near my door...i spray the plant with s misting bottle with 91 percent isopropyl alcohol and wipe the unit and light bar with it on a paper towel...instantly rids me of them.

That's interesting. I will try Isopropyl Alchohol. Thank you.

@@aerogardenexperiments make sure its 91 percent...the reasoning is that high percentage has little water so wont hurt electronics and evaporates quickly killing the bugs but leaving the plant fast to not harm it.

I recentlyhave been growing and harvesting some Baby Bok Choy in my Mufga System but I was unsure how long the plant would last Thank You for clarifying that for me!

    Interesting process. Thanks for sharing.
Do you know where the spider mites came from?
Is your growing area exposed to the outside at all?

I've had them come from outside in summer just from opening door to get mail..packages..etc

I don't see spider mites anywhere outside. Also, I am extremly carefull about not bringing anything from outside as I have gone through the pain of Aphids many times. So, I don't know where exactly spider mites came from. Maybe the groceries, through wind when I open the doors, maybe on my cloths when I go out for running, etc.

@@aerogardenexperiments Thanks for the reply. I suppose they're just part of the airy soup of life.

Thank you for showing us this experiment! So I hope you could eat some of the leaves before the spider mites appeared !

Yes, I was able to harvest some Bok Choy. Even at the end, I washed the leaves thoroughly and consumed a few leaves.

@@aerogardenexperiments i think it was very scary moment for you because you have alot of plants growing. you could have lost everything because of those bugs. i am happy to see it is alright now.

I wonder if a UV light would help? I hear some labs use them in corridors to keep pests from getting in/out as it kills them in the corridor. Since I'm already here, I was thinking of using a submersible UV aquarium clean light to keep any algae from growing in my Aerogarden farms. Any thoughts? Thanks.

So sad to see the spider mites! Despite that issue, your bok choy looked very good.

Make sure the spider mites don’t transfer to your other crops.

UGH STOOPID SPIDER MITES. So infuriating! Can you tell us what you do if you have spider mites?
