Much respect to the Austrian army; despite having a bad military record they were the only ones who fought and won a battle against Napoleon without any foreign help
Austria was more successful in the Neapolitan War than any wars against Napoleonic France: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tolentino And even after the Napoleonic Wars, although the Austrian army horribly underfunded & suffered defeats, there was still some success: Austria's & Britain's navies saved the Ottomans against Egypt in the Second Ottoman-Egyptian War, Radetzky defeated the Italians in 1848, Austria & Prussia together defeated a Danish army in 1864 (while Prussia was pushed back at Mysunde in the early war days, Austria beat the Danes at Sankelmark at the same time), then challenged and lost to Prussia (also against France in 1859) at Königgrätz due the horribly army funding and inferior weapons, but at the same time won an excellent naval victory at Lissa against a better Italian navy and also pushed the superior Italians back at Custoza (1866), and invaded Bosnia. Of course Austria's military record wasn't as good as Prussia's one, but they still enjoyed some success.
It could've achieved much more if Franz II didn't expel Archduke Charles from taking any command. I just love how every major event in Napoleon's campaigns seems to have been documented by a portrait. I mean dang, did everything just get a portrait back then? Those portraits seem amazingly detailed. The type of thing that only a true master pouring days of labor could do. And yet every event, even lesser ones, get a portrait of some type.
There hasn't been a man like Napoleon and there hasn't been a war as destructive and magnanimous like Napoleonic Wars before Napoleonic Wars. Just like How WW1 created a shock, so does Wars of the Coalition. Only difference is since armies are more concentrated, on can describe a war with painting a simple major event.
Same as Chancelorvile for Lee in ACW. Lost his good general in battle. Lee losta Stonewall Jacksone, Napoleon lost Marchal Lannes, the guy who hold and baited russians near Friedland.
When I was a Junior in High School, for my history class project I was assigned to write a report on Napoleon's military campaigns. At first I thought, "Cool! A report on 2 or 3 battles and I can wrap it up with Waterloo." Once I found out the number and scope of battles I had to research and write about, I started to hate Napoleon as much as the Austrians did.
I appreciated that good , short , and meaty tactics lesson , that did precede the description of the Battle of Aspern , I learned so much because of it .
So glad to see EPIC History making more videos. Your channel is my favorite on all of youtube. I’m looking forward to see more Napoleonic videos in the near future.
Arch Duke Charles is underrated, literally the only coalition commander to beat Napoleon ‘1 on 1’ with just his own army, and gave him a very hard time even in defeat. France was at her most powerful in 1809 too, it was foolish to sack Charles, he was the first to best Napoleon at his height in a fairly even battle.
No doubt Charles was an excellent commander but he definitely had it easier (in command) than Wellington did during his campaigns. Wellington had to organize an fight a multinational army, typically only half of which were regular and reliable British troops - the rest were a malaise of dubious troops from other countries, sometimes ones who had recently been allied with Napoleon.

Thank you for the great video as always @EpicHistoryTV This is always my favorite battle as I'm a fan of the whitecoats, especially the Archduke himself. It was sad that even though he won at Aspern-Essling, he got criticized badly and was ignored by the Austrian people after coming back from Wagram. He was not recognized until very late after the war was over, but still, a great hero in my eyes for defeating the undefeated :)

it can be Stalingrad WW2
La somme WW1
Vienna 1683 Great Turkish War
Leipizg 1813
Borodino 1812
The Battle of Cannae, 216 BC Carthage vs Rome
but the Battle of Leipzig is definitely the wildest battle in world history
The infantry tactics are superb content, you guys were awesome again. The narration is also smooth and straight. Big like !!
We now even have a movie of Napoleon's sex life.
Another fire video from EPIC HISTORY TV
I'm not french, but Napoleon... yeah, I would have fought for that guy.

@Napoléon Bonaparte Why die for the interest of a person who does not care about you?
@@BlueSky_BlueSky ah yes, hello british
@@BlueSky_BlueSky that's a stupid question

your mentality is topically shit
Once again, An Epic History Lesson!! Thank you so very much
Same as Chancelorvile for Lee in ACW. Lost his good general in battle. Lee losta Stonewall Jacksone, Napoleon lost Marchal Lannes, the guy who hold and baited russians near Friedland.
Amazing job!! Thanks for the effort!!
Best series on TH-cam. Every videos incredible. Thank you!
So glad to see EPIC History making more videos. Your channel is my favorite on all of youtube.
I’m looking forward to see more Napoleonic videos in the near future.
Napoleon: "AHHH! DAMN IT!"
Davout: "What was that?"
Napoelon: "MY FOOT!"
Davout: "I didn't know it could swear."
Far better in quality and presentation than any history program on TV
@@dynamo1796
RIGHT WE GET IT WELLINGTON WAS A GOOD COMMANDER WE GET IT REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Listen, Wellington never faced Napoleon alone, and never beat him alone, like Charles did, during Napoleons height,
@@rhysnichols8608 neither were comparable to Napoleon. Charles had a good advantage at Aspern while at Waterloo, French mostly had conscripts while the Coalition troops were well trained.
Finally, epic history tv has blessed us with another new video, every half a year.
I'm at work but I want this masterpiece when I'm home
Another great video, the Napoleonic Wars are currently my favorite series on this channel.
Last time I was this early napoleon still ruled Europe
That can't go on any further. I'm sending you batteries for your old alarm clock.
@@HistoryMarche We only use fine mechanical clocks over here.
Russia and the UK are also europe.
ареф нар after Friesland and Tilsit Napoleon firmly beat Russia. People Tend to remember the failed invasion but he had already beaten Russia
@@fredbarker9201 he had beaten a coalition.
We'd better remember than he didn't conquer russia.
Anyone can "beat" anything to some extent.
But conquering is different.
Awesome channel, these videos are informative and very beautifully done.
Thank you for the great video as always @EpicHistoryTV
This is always my favorite battle as I'm a fan of the whitecoats, especially the Archduke himself. It was sad that even though he won at Aspern-Essling, he got criticized badly and was ignored by the Austrian people after coming back from Wagram. He was not recognized until very late after the war was over, but still, a great hero in my eyes for defeating the undefeated :)
Well he was bad seen on the big austrian circles but he was regarded as a hero for some, one example being the russian Tsar
HISTORY MARCHE!! I just love these guys! The best of it's kind (imo)

Fantastic Video!
One of the most solid videos I've seen of the Napoleonic period. Well done.
Napoleon: No one can beat me
Bridge: Okeh
the funny thing is, those barges kept going downstream and the French did *nothing* to stop them. A company of engineers with large wooden stakes upsteam could have stopped those barges altogether.

*so many factors. I know Napoleon was short on time but to perform frontal attacks one inclined terrain. (Nelsons position) implies a lack of care for his men and casualties suffered. By the time of Waterloo he was a fat, slow, shadow of his former self.*
I'm kind of tired of this myth of the "declining Napoleon". Physically, he was more and more ill, yes, but he still won great victories after the Russian disaster, like Dresden, the Six Days campaign, or Ligny.
@@TheFiresloth You are very correct. It was not that Napoleon was declining, it was that time and luck were running out and his enemies were improving.
@@TheFiresloth
*There are reports that during his second imprisonment he was poisoned with Arsenic, it's not unreasonable to think that was occurring during he first imprisonment as well. He also made comments to the effect that war was a young man's game, and finally, he was known for eating fried potatoes and onions almost exclusively while on campaign but unless I'm mistaken, he was not eating that during this one, because of stomach problems.*
*In other words, "along with being near obese, he may have been poisoned, suffering from digestive issues and disinterested, all in one."*
