      I think many people automatically assume satoshi would want credit for his invention when it’s pretty clear from the beginning that the real satoshi wasn’t interested at all in notoriety and actually valued anonymity over almost everything.

    It’s Hal Finney, I really don’t understand why we are still doubting. His neighbor was called like that, he designed an early version of the POW, he was the first person to recieve a Bitcoin trsanction, he had a long past in the cryptography world and unfortunately he suffered from ELA and died which explains why Satoshi disappeared. (Interestingly when he disappeared, Hal started to suffer from ELA) but yes let’s believe it was an arrogant business man who can’t prove is him even if he takes the freedom to claim so.

    • @Brickcellent
      @Brickcellent 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Satoshi disappeared 3 year before Finney died, and Finney was working right up until his death.

    • @dariosansano5747
      @dariosansano5747 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Satoshi disappear just when Hal started to suffer from ELA, and indeed he worked from time to time later ( when he had some bright moments) on a system to make safer the Bitcoin wallets until his death, which is also quite significative. If I knew I was going to die, I would dedicate my last years to something I’m personally attached to, and not a random project I helped.

    • @Brickcellent
      @Brickcellent 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      But bitcoin isn't a "random project". If Finney was Satoshi, you could be damn sure he'd be putting every last drop of work into securing the existence of bitcoin for centuries to come, and not focusing on wallets.

    • @dariosansano5747
      @dariosansano5747 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Back then the security of Bitcoin wallets was actually the main problem and even today even though we have more options (the bitcoin network is virtually perfect in terms of security so there is no need for improvements in that sense). Back then was a priority, but it seems you are one of those that will find any kind of arguments to not recognize how “close” he was of Satoshi. If I had ELA and I was going to die, I wouldn’t had spent my last bright moments marking safer wallets for a project that I just helped, even less knowing his long background in many projects for tech companies. To me some people enjoy the mistery, and others just want it to be a mistery so it opens the possibility for them to be him and that gives them popularity, like this business man pretending it was him. To me with everything we know about Hal and all proves that point to him, it is ridiculous to doubt like we do it, and I bet whatever you want that as long as Hal is cryogenized, we will never ever hear from Satoshi.

    • @Brickcellent
      @Brickcellent 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just really don't think if Satoshi was dying, he'd focus on a problem lots of other people could solve. I believe he'd be taking care of his baby. As well as this I don't think the real Satoshi would go through the effort of remaining anonymous just to be discovered so easily. I will say Finney is probably the closest match to Satoshi, but I really don't believe it's him. Who knows, with the velocity bitcoin is traveling at, we may get more clues or answers to his identity.

      It's merely the audience cheering that gives one the feeling of being

      and others told it way before him) will NOT be valid if there is

      IE: Craig can't take the simple, public route because it would open him up to hundreds of millions in back taxes according to the laws of his home nation... hardly a trivial reason to only sign a Tx in front of a select few...
      ...also is the assertion that Craig DIDN'T sign a Tx in front of Gavin, that Gavin was fooled, or that Gavin is lying? Because he'd be hard to fool in that regard and he doesn't seem like he's lying (what does he have to gain by doing so?)

      I'm talking about about a couple of situations involving core access. He is somewhat naive, historically speaking.
      Also, there is plenty of evidence, from everything in the back story, CW's dodginess and back-peddling (as well as increase in demands of "conditions" in which he gives proof), all down to the look of uncertainty of Gavin's face as he's trying to sell CW as Satoshi. Many many tells of a conartist at play, but I do believe you meant to say that you don't see "proof".
      Of course you'd have a hard time proving that I am not Satoshi.

      @@EmilyRose0 There is a much deeper reason for that. But Gavin himself said, that he "could have been bamboozled" (although I don't think that he believed that Craig is Satoshi in the first place). If you have followed the blocksize debate a few years ago, you probably know that Craig Wright was someone who is known to have wanted a larger blocksize. It makes sense that Gavin named someone else as Satoshi, because he wanted to win community support over the blocksize. Btw, Bitcoin core also revoked Gavin's commit access after he named Craig Wright as Satoshi.
      My gut feeling also tells me that Craig isn't Satoshi. Craig is emotional and snaps as soon as someone denies that he is Satoshi. Satoshi's posts on the cryptography mailing list were written with deliberation whereas Craig insults people in a childish way (Richard Heart for example).

    I take it from the comments that most people miss Vitalik's point. Also, the idea that Wright tells a news reporter he is the bitcoin creator and shows a select few people his proof smacks of a good old fashioned con-job - that's how cult leaders work. The argument that he does not advertise it to avoid taxes is weakened by announcing this to the news and by allowing the select few to broadcast his claim.
    The idea that Satoshi, who valued anonymity, now values validation and recognition (in the form of Wright) is difficult to reconcile and an odd psychological conundrum at the least. If anything it paints Wright in a poor mental state, one that leads me to feel that if he were Satoshi we should say "So long and thanks for all the fish".

    *Disclaimer: this is an opinion post*
    I have interacted personally with Dr Craig Wright in professional networks and in my personal opinion I have no doubt that he is indeed Satoshi Nakamoto. He is a very approachable person for discussing academic ideas. The style of his other academic long writings freely available at SSRN fits the pattern of the anonymous Bitcoin paper ( e.g. use of references, sentence formation style, coherence and readability of the papers). Legally , there are too many formal and circumstantial evidences that makes it hard not to support Dr Wright's claims. The common pattern I have observed for those who are opposing the claims, either have indirectly vested interest, or some pseudo-intellectual logic that looks great only on twitter posts.
    Life is not like a iron-man movie, and we have to accept a cold fact that Dr Wright do not have any moral obligation to accept anything in public. It will be just like "shiba-inu-getting-listed-in-Robinhood" incident. In the long run, it just won't matter.
