    Cinema is a visual medium. But in Hindi cinema, a lot of directors seem to have forgotten that. Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece There Will Be Blood is a good reminder where we can examine how to use staging, blocking, and editing, to tell a story, any story, visually.

    Even cinema lovers like me who don't know much about the technicals of film making learn so much from your videos. And now the wait for your next video begins. Please make it soon!

      This videos help me a lot as well as I am just another ordinary spectator who has barely any technical knowledge about film making. But my question is, will people like us grow once they are exposed to such technical videos?? Will you and me and other people like us be able to differentiate between average and great camera work or interpret cinematic language properly?? I don't think I''ll be...

    • @samwellick1706
      @samwellick1706 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aftabeasty8577 we definitely experience it, we may not be able to say why we are experiencing the things we are experiencing but it is a fact that the filmmaker made it in that specific way to us to feel a specific set of emotions. I've only recently watched there will be blood and also it is the first film I've watched directed by PTA and half the scenes i don't know why I'm feeling the way I'm feeling but i know for sure that the director meant to portray it like that and there is some merit to it. And as i keep watching analyses like this i understand how it all works in technical aspects

    I admire your videos very much :) but ..
    I think the reason for this channel's ordinary no of subscribers is that Indian audience doesn't care about these intricate details
    what can you expect as they don't even notice a change in hair style and skin tone between shots
    I say this because I recommended your channel to my friend and he told me that why would he care to know such about a film which he is going to watch once
    this incident has saddened me and I wish people like you who have a great perspective about filmmaking should make Hindi cinema whole.

      This channel is geared towards film students and budding self taught filmmakers looking to hone their craft. Regarding audience, we all subconsciously see these intricate details while watching movies. When I watched There will be blood, I just loved the movie but I didn't know why, cuz the story was pretty mediocre. Now I know one of the reasons might be the filming technique, of-course, apart from brilliant acting and production etc.

    Kind of unrelated to the topic discussed in the video but I would like to talk about Daniel Day lewis.
    What he does is embody another person or character like a chameleon and he does it with meticulous detail but he lacks the essence. He is so consumed by perfecting his accent and looks that when you try to look past it there is nothing there. Think about it when you think about Day Lewis what do you think? Bill the butcher, Daniel Plainview, Lincoln but not him. He hasn't shared himself with the audience, he doesn't have a distinct screen presence and so he hides behind the outward appearances of his characters. It could be said that great actors like Paul Newman, Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart etc played the same characters in all movie. It was about their screen presence they could convey so much by doing so little. They stayed true to themselves and lived on screen you couldn't see them act it was so real. If we look at Spencer Tracy, who I consider to be the greatest Film actor, he embodied characters perfectly, performed a variety of characters but the character traits didn't overshadow the performance themself.

    Perfect point!
    The exact point that "every cut, change of angle is motivated" makes me wonder of a question that I haven't been able to get an answer of!
    In dark Knight rises, when Batman has flown away with the nuke, and Gotham considers him to be dead, there is a scene where a statue of Batman is being unveiled! There, for no seeming reason, a top, bird eye view angle has been used... and the chairs are kept in such a way that they look like two eyes and a joker like smile!! Is a tribute to Joker or am I imagining things?
    The very point you make in this video, makes me think that a maestro like Nolan wouldn't use an angle for no reason? What do you think?
    Amazing work btw! Keep them coming! Thanks!
