I lived in the country with an Amish community near me. When they found out my Husband was terminally ill they showed up with meals ,singing and caring for our farm animals. After he passed away they were there for me. Going to church with them was such an amazing experience. Such beautiful music with no instruments. So blessed by them.

We have a lot of Amish in my area and they do not use electricity. They definitely do not allow video taping of their lifestyle nor having their picture taken.
There was an Amish store & a Mennonite store on my route doing deliveries in Virginia. They made perfect furniture & their food they made was so good. Handmade & all products were selected carefully. These folks should be admired by all. I am so glad I was able to meet them! I bought some furniture & their great tasting food.
Very interesting video. Remind me of the 50's and 60's American families. LOL! here we are watching your video about Old Fashion Way's on modern technology. Thanks for the memories!
When I was growing up n money tight, we strung popcorn to hang on tree or made garland out of construction paper! We got one special gift such as a doll or my brother got a Hop-a-long cap gun. I wish all of us were like this. Reflects a lot of my childhood and that’s in uk and not Amish. Hard life but family and community focused. We may be better off with heating n gadgets but to take what we have achieved and be more oriented to family and community focused again would be the best. Most people today don’t know their neighbours. Amish work hard and still find time because cos they don’t have internet, tv etc. old times were hard times but you don’t know what’s been lost.
Here in Alaska where many in the community are Russian Orthodox, Russian Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve Jan 6th with Christmas being on the 7th. Russian New Years is the 13 & 14th. Christmas is celebrated by starring much like caroling except with a big star that is spun while singing and New Years is masking by going to houses with a mask and guessing who you are followed by a big Russian ball where there is food and dancing.
The devout Honor, Severance and Holiness that accompanied Christmas when we were children no longer seems to exist, and you hear people everywhere say "I'm just not feeling it". This is because it turned into looking for what WE could GET from the season, instead of GIVING all our focus to God.
no wonder they are so well and balanced. for years many laughed at the Amish communities, now they could lead us all back into happy living. they understand what is real.
This is a real life like used to be, people were very happy, friendly with no iPhones and tablets, etc. We got time for each other and enjoyed each second .
This is just a great way to celebrate Christmas we used to celebrate somewhat like this when we were kids growing up on the farm . And we were not Amish.kind of got away from it over the years ,it,s crazy how people rat race around these daz,s ,And miss out on the joys of Christmas holidays and the true meaning and the most important part for the season … i to would love to live handy to an Amish community I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a person visiting and learning some of their ways , thank you for the video I really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas to all and all the best in the new year
BTW we’re not running around the shopping malls for the gifts, we’re baking a special bread filled with cheese and sliced boiled eggs, January 6th Christmas Eve we’re going to the church, bringing those breads and another homemade dishes and after prayer we’re getting together and sharing meals and lots of laughter, also we are making Christmas candy: roasted walnuts chopped and cooked in boiled honey Yummy 😋
I'm a Mennonite we do January 6th for our Christmas day too. The old order Mennonites said that Christmas is on January 6th when the new order Mennonites say December 25 is Christmas. my dad comes from the old order Mennonites. My aunt married a new order Mennonites. My dad moved in to help his sister and brother in law after they got hurt in a farm accident the trucker hit a big hole and threw over braking my uncle two legs and his back as my dad moved out of his old order Mennonite parents house and moved in with his sister New order Mennonite home so can help her out on the farm. I can tell you not easy my dad fell in love with my English mom who was his next door neighbor three weeks later they got married my parents came up with the 25 days of Christmas and they kept the Mennonite day of Christmas on January 6th. On December 25th we spent Christmas with our English family then we spent January 6th with our Mennonite side of the family.
@@shawncooper7086 Eastern Orthodox is January 6th, originally. I heard something about Dec.25 to January 6 being the 12 days of Christmas! Where Protestants often retain what the Catholic Church practiced!
@@shawncooper7086 That’s the way to do it! As Eastern Orrhodox, it’s my understanding January 6th is the Christmas Day. Like archaeology gives validity! I’ve been put through the grind and know what Satan will do and his methods to destroy one’s faith. I’ve lived it and challenged by it! But remember there farm and sitting on my grand pops knee as he played the guitar. And sing songs. And eating shoofly pie.i live in PA. and go out to Lancaster, Pennsylvania we’re the Mennonites live. It’s so peaceful out there.
@ if you really want it, it might be the thing to do. But I understand they’re having problems competing with modern agriculture today, then farm prices are up so high! When I was younger, that might have been where I should have headed! I did a lot of reading on them and wanted to interact with them. But other things happened!
I agree with a comment made here, ease up on judging everyone in the modern world making out were all greedy , selfish etc . Most of us appreciate the little things in life and at Christmas, you also make out no-one else makes things by hand anymore but that's not true either. Also so many people especially during Christmas go out of their way to helping others , or give to charities and are very respectful of others. Don't make out that everything or everyone in the modern world bad .
I don't think we should judge others for the way they celebrate Christmas. However, in order to live and celebrate more simply, we English have to go against the spirit of our age. We have to negotiate getting out of Christmas parties because we don't drink and don't want to be involved in questionable behaviour. Our families think we are cheap for buying or making simple gifts. We go for walks in the countryside whilst other people are shopping or partying. People question why we go to church on Christmas day cutting into cooking/ eating time. This is not better than other Christmases it is just different. There are problems in Amish societies. Females are certainly second class. Sexual abuse is covered up. Their practice of shunning is cruel. We should not idealise their lives all of us sin.
I love this, it reflects how selfish and greedy we are as a non Amish culture . These simple beliefs, homemade crafts and giving to one another all year round.. Peaceful living, seems like
Amen and Amen. That is the Spirit of Christmas. Not the tinsel, the lights, the trees, the gifts etc. It is the One who shed His prescious blood for us so we won't spend eternity in hell. Thank you my Lord Jesus Christ.
I don’t know why, but this video reminds me of ‘Little House on the Prairie’. I thought I saw Laura and Mary numerous times. ❤ In any case, the narration is redundant. 41 mins of repetition…words said in a different way. I understand the message, and appreciate the Amish people’s culture in the first 15 mins. 😊
I'm not Amish I love my Christmas decoration colors , sparkling lights , but ... I do know the reason for the season and its not the shopping , the gifts ,except the gift in the manger .. .. If the Amish choose to live as they do ,that's great too . I do like Amish butter 😊
“Stuff” of this greedy world has never given lasting memories nor carry spiritual nor emotional satisfaction! The Amish are gifted n I’m happy to know them😊😊
I grew up in such simplicity, which i will always be thankful for. If i could, i would join the Amish with my children and grandchildren, to live in a beautiful, peaceful, respectful, helpful, and simple life. Simple yet so rich and beautiful, with such amazingly heartfelt meanings.
Who uses instant mash regularly? I do keep the Idahoan instant mash (we get that in the UK) it is for the grandchildren, or if my husband has to self cater, ooh we call that crumble in the UK, and make it with mainly apples or rhubarb, and the topping is hot homemade custard.
I live close enough to Amish to know they hv no TV’s or cars, but they do hv John Deer tractors. The food at Amish restaurants is delicious, especially the bakery products!
I actually respect and have a lot of envy for the Amish way of life and celebrating Christmas etc! Especially in this modern technical generation. Simple and natural is always best.
Good. We normal Christians took our upholstered furniture to an upholsterer and there it was refurbished. For money, of course. The Amish do everything themselves. We only sewed and darned and were economical with everything. These are - so I believe - basic features of a Christian character. Renewable energy also comes from the Amish and from all ancient Christians. That's where the Receiclyng comes from. I still remember the mill wheel that kept the mill running with water. Everything was repaired and used again. And I didn't have many toys either. But - I admit - I had 2 dolls, a doll's pram and a cradle. Well, yes. My parents have already spoiled me. Nevertheless - we owe a lot to the Amish. Thank you for remembering the original Christianity.
That how we should be to say thank you to Our BELOVED LORD GOD and his only son Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the Holy Spirit Amen Amen Amen. I truly wish I knew of a place in California where were so many I could learn the right way to worship and pray right.
There are some things about this I like and then some things I don't think I could get used to and I think that would make me very uncomfortable. For an introvert being forced to be around that many people, that's a no for me, and my husband, we're so introverted we probably won't even go anywhere, we don't do gifts either. The economy has gotten so bad in 2024 in America, a lot of people are going to quit giving presents just like we have, a lot of people have gotten off the consumerism will and are saying no no more. And nobody was in a tent waiting for Black Friday, Black Friday was nonexistent, there wasn't even anybody in the stores nobody cares anymore it's all online, and even then nobody cares anymore we're all too broke to care!
Wow beautiful children of God ✝️ 🕊️ 🙏 so thoughtful and intelligent made gifts, to Jesus goes all the glory it's not our birthday Jesus love is his gift to us let us celebrate this not gifts
@Frugal Solutions While most of us could do with being less materialistic & more thoughtful of others, we can all learn something worthwhile from other communities. It would seem that the Amish have learned some of the benefits of our modern ways as they now use electricity & are willing to allow their culture to be examined by social media.
I have made cards and gifts …… they weren’t RECIEVED any differently than bought ones. It’s the thought that counts. And weather I make or buy anything it will take purchasing materials possiabbly with money I don’t have.
Since when is Kelly McGillis Amish, or M. Dietz??!! How about doing your research...these are Old Colony Mennos from Mexico (not Swartzentrubers) and Bolivia. Scenes from Hollywood's Rumspringa (kids that aren't really Amish) and Old Order River Brethern...and on and on....hmmmm. Fake news????

I don’t know why, but this video reminds me of ‘Little House on the Prairie’. I thought I saw Laura and Mary numerous times. ❤
In any case, the narration is redundant. 41 mins of repetition…words said in a different way. I understand the message, and appreciate the Amish people’s culture in the first 15 mins. 😊
We could learn a lot from the Amish.
Yes I think people would be more happier. They make such beautiful things ❤
The ladies are excellent cooks!
It sounds beautiful! We should learn from them!
Who uses instant mash regularly? I do keep the Idahoan instant mash (we get that in the UK) it is for the grandchildren, or if my husband has to self cater, ooh we call that crumble in the UK, and make it with mainly apples or rhubarb, and the topping is hot homemade custard.
This is how we did Christmas in my country (Guyana) . Things have changed now, all about material things.
I live close enough to Amish to know they hv no TV’s or cars, but they do hv John Deer tractors. The food at Amish restaurants is delicious, especially the bakery products!
Notice they need our society , we'll claiming they don't. They can sell to others .
I would have enjoyed this much much more if they weren't comparing people . I didn't think Christmas was a competition.🤔
Love how they all come together
Jesus is the reason for the season
Amen ❤
Old Christmas is the tree king DAY . JANUARY 6 We also celebrate in Puerto RICO
El día de reyes!!
Actually some Catholics celebrate Christmas on Jan 6. It’s called little Christmas!
We called it three kings day
My husband was eastern Orthodox and its celebrated on January7
I celebrate from Dec 24 to Jan 7.
How very interesting. Thank you for this video.
I met them in Wisconsin .Wonderful people
People. Need. To. Go. Back. To. This
That how we should be to say thank you to Our BELOVED LORD GOD and his only son Jesus Christ of Nazareth and the Holy Spirit Amen Amen Amen. I truly wish I knew of a place in California where were so many I could learn the right way to worship and pray right.
Very Nice ❤❤Thanks! ✨️🎄☃️❄️🎅🎁
NO Government ,NO Convid these People are the BEST!
So beautiful! Great people!
What's with the plastic water bottles? Just asking 😊
I think the Amish got it right. Christmas is too materialistic.
I have made cards and gifts …… they weren’t RECIEVED any differently than bought ones. It’s the thought that counts. And weather I make or buy anything it will take purchasing materials possiabbly with money I don’t have.
Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸🇺🇸Simple and traditional celebration is unparalleled 🌷🌷
Nice video, sounds peaceful, nice to have a sneak peak into there culture, sad the rest of the year is so terrible for them
You've got to be kidding, they live a great life just like Jesus did . And that's the way it's suppose to be.
Very informative...being part Ukrainian, we celebrated both days...the 6th according to the Ukrainian orthodox church...
I wish it was stated that most of the video clips used here are from movies and public events of Minorities not Amish.
I thought that a lot of it was from movies
Since when is Kelly McGillis Amish, or M. Dietz??!! How about doing your research...these are Old Colony Mennos from Mexico (not Swartzentrubers) and Bolivia. Scenes from Hollywood's Rumspringa (kids that aren't really Amish) and Old Order River Brethern...and on and on....hmmmm. Fake news????
