    Great reaction. That gameplaygot me so excited for The Veilguard. I love that each Dragon Age game feels different, gameplay wise and i still enjoy each one.
    That part where Varric confronted Solas had me so scared because i thought we were going to see Varric die early in the game. Still could happen i guess but i'm glad it wasn't shown. Him losing Bianca could be an excuse why hes not in the party.

    The reveal trailer was the ending of the comics, The Missing, so I understand why people freaked out if you hadn't read or seen anything about the comics. We all now know why Dorian says 'Southern Thedas is slumming it.' I'm really interested in all those elven statues and what two gods broke free, Solas looked a bit scared. I honestly think the reason we have 2 companion slots is we are going to have a lot of cameos of characters helping us out. I also want to know why Belara has Inky's hand or a version of it? Sorry, if any of this doesn't make sense, bad brain day but I think I fixed it.

    I still really miss the prologue origins, but the background choices they are giving us sound cool, and I LOVE that NPCs are reactive and have dialogue based on that. We see a bit of it with Harding reffering to this version of Rook as being from Minrathous. I like the art style and the combat. It's different, but every single DA game has had a different art style and different combat, so I'm really not bothered by it. I'm mainly here for the story, which is something Bioware does well (at least most of the time). Going to insert a cheer here for HAIR PHYSICS! I am so hopeful for better hair options! As far as all they've said so far and what we've seen, I'm getting the feeling like this is going to be similar to Mass Effect 2. We've got the smaller party. An article mentioned this being a "mission-centered" style of play instead of being more open-world. I feel like maybe this could be a really nice, tight game that focuses on just what is needed for the story and not a ton of extra filler. Building strong bonds with our companions and such will be so much fun! Even if the game ends up being something like 30-40 hours of solid play (instead of the 80-90 I spend on inquisition) if its a REALLY GOOD 30ish hours, then I will be happy to go back and play it again and again. Thedas holds such a special place in my heart...and overall I'm just soooo glad to be going back in a new way. Soon!

    I noticed that there’s 2 identical statues around. On the right side. Those statues are placed near to each other. That force me to think that they symbolize Falon'Din and Dirthamen, since they are twins. So the statues are the same as well.
    From this point, we don’t see the statue with a I-form “crown”, which could originally belong to Falon'Din, but now he is probably part of Dirthamen, they are 2 gods in 1, I guess.

      Ooh, that's a good observation. It could be. So then, how did he get his hands on the idol? I hope we see that in the game. In Tevinter Nights, it had passed between several people, after Cartadwarves carved it out of Meredith, and in the comics, the young Danarius heir had it last, though Solas was spying on him through an Eluvian. I hope we get to see how Solas got it back.

    Is it possible that the entity on the left is Anaris, one of the forgotten ones? His appearance is not humanoid, like the elf on the right. The Forgotten Ones may have allied themselves with the Evanuris to take revenge against Solas.

    • @DarthShadie
      @DarthShadie  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh maybe. Although it is said Solas had locked the Forgotten Ones in the Void, but perhaps not. I also think all Evanuris who were imprisoned have turned into demons. I am currently editing my video where I try to decipher who these elven gods are. While there are resemblances to depictions of two Evanuris, seeing as we do not know what the Forgotten Ones look like, it cannot be ruled out as a possibility, for sure.

    asmongold really hated the light bloom and the overly neon aesthetic and its extremely flashy and i hate it as well . but i think this game is graphically impressive for 3 reasons:
    a) they said it was the best hair physics in any game to date
    b) the best clothes physics in any game
    c) i also think they have better character movements (like the way their arm moves, leg moves when they run) in any game to date eg: when varric walks down the stairs 15:35

    I wrote a huge post about the gameplay demo but I won't dump all of it on you. Instead I'll just touch on the main issues I have with the demo. Overall I didn't like it, and I'll explain why to some extent.
    First are the problems regarding the lack of choice and poor story structure. Neve was supposed to meet us at the bar. It is revealed that she let herself get captured by the Venatori so she could see who was after her. This means she delayed our meeting and thus prevented us from finding Solas earlier. She got innocent people killed by doing this. Yet there is no way for Rook to call her out on it because the dialogue options are basic (either praise her or move on and focus on Solas).
    This is also true in the part with Solas. Varric will make the choice to talk to Solas himself. Rook gets no say in the matter. Rook also gets no say when Lace offers to take a shot at Solas. Neve tells her not to. Even when Rook comes up with the plan, we the players are not consulted. BioWare just makes the protagonist say and do things without our input. There should be an option to have Lace take the shot once we disrupt the ritual and Solas is distracted.
    Next up is the poor writing. The major negative that people are pointing out, myself included, is that Solas' ritual hinged on shoddy scaffolding for one of the statues. Nine years have passed since Trespasser, and Solas couldn't be bothered to get a proper stonemason to secure that statue? This is the same guy who beat The Iron Bull in a game of head chess. Another horrible writing instance is how it took Varric nine years to find someone Solas doesn't know just to introduce them almost immediately. And ultimately Rook played no role in actually finding Solas or even stopping him. It was Neve who tracked Solas down, and it was Lace who was needed to help topple the statue. In theory, Lace and Neve together could have knocked over the statues.
    And remember how the Inquisitor promised to convince Solas the world didn't need to be destroyed? Gone. Out the window. This is the problem with starting the game out with Solas being confronted, rather than saving it for the end. There is no build-up and no payoff.
    Next the graphics. The close up parts are good. The far away parts are bad. The city is covered in fog to obscure the basic design. The Circle is comprised of basic blocky shapes and plain brick textures. There are no intricate carvings or statues to decorate the outer walls, and every window is just an orange light. No stained glass or complex designs. These are basically PS2 era graphics. Sadly.
    Character backstory doesn't seem to be accounted for very well. Rook comes off as an amateur who needs Varric or Lace to tell him how to do things or where to go, despite Rook being a rogue and a citizen of Minrathous. The dialogue back and forth also doesn't make much sense from a conversational standpoint. It seems more like it's there for plot exposition, even though the details of Solas' ritual and the reasons for Rook joining up should have been discussed hours earlier in the bar.
    Next up is the gameplay, and there are some bad things here as well. The new variations on the demons look good, but I hope the old version appear as well.
    Demons come and combat begins. I like how the character switches between blades and bow & arrows. Switching weapons on the fly is something they needed to bring back. I just wish characters could use all weapons regardless of class. Also, I like how bow & arrows require aiming now. It also looks like money is acquired automatically, as I saw money pickup messages in the GUI. At one point Rook jumped in the air and changed directions when targeting a different enemy. That seems weird, but not intolerable. Breaking the pot for more potions seems a bit video gamey. Inquisition had you at least interact with supply crates.
    The Venatori barrier is destroyed with one poke, from a rogue no less. This is just terrible game design. Barriers should be mage-only breakable, and rogues and warriors should be given alternate routes to take geared toward their classes. And speaking of barriers, another red flag. Neve has an ice dome barrier protecting her. It's so strong that it easily blocks magical blasts from the Circle. The same blasts that took down a pride demon a few moments earlier. So I guess Neve has a really strong defensive spell that can block powerful attacks. That will come in handy later in the game I'm sure of it. No way BioWare will only show her using it here one time and never again even if the situation calls for it. Right?
    Something I don't like about the combat are the GUI arrows indicating that a projectile is being aimed at Rook. Very video gamey. Kind of immersion-breaking.
    Knocking the enemies off a ledge is cool, but it seems linked to the enemies health. So basically you can only knock them off if that hit would have killed them anyway. So that means it's just a style thing and not a strategy thing.
    I'm also seeing some design errors with the broken building. There is a large portion of the building that has been destroyed, yet the windows right next to the opening are still lit orange. So are these not windows at all and just orange lights? Or did BioWare forget to turn off the orange lighting behind them to make them transparent to show through into the destroyed building?
    Arlathan Forest. Notable because of trees specific to that region apparently. My first though was, with a ritual site that obvious, how is it possible that the Inquisition hasn't discovered this place yet? Especially when they've had nine years to do so?
    Varric says Solas needs someone to sell him a better option, to help him justify changing his mind. When he actually gets up to Solas to talk to him however, Varric offers absolutely nothing as an alternative. Bad writing. And again, Rook has no way to stop Varric. He only gets two dialogue options, one to encourage him and one to tell him they didn't come all this way just to talk to Solas.
    Varric talks to Solas while the party fights demons and buys him time. Varric's "better option" merely consists of telling Solas what he already knows, that demons are flooding the world. Solas says he has taken precautions to minimize the damage. Varric instantly gets frustrated and says people are dying even now and then points Bianca at him, telling him to listen. Solas breaks Biana, and says, "People are always dying. It is what they do." This confirms a theory of mine that part of Solas' rationale is to restore a world where people can live forever without aging or dying (except by being killed). I have said for a while that to Solas, the current world is a horrible place where people die in a short span of time. He thinks restoring the ancient world will correct that bad reality. And those who die for that reality to come back are simply those who would have died within several decades anyway. This is actually a good piece of development for Solas' character. The problem is there is no one here who is intellectual enough to actually debate him on the merits of his belief. This is why the Inquisitor was needed for this role, not Varric, who doesn't even comprehend what Solas is saying to him.
    So the magical storm could tear us apart. Anyone got a better idea? Why, yes. Let's send TWO people into the storm to be torn apart. What? WHAT?! Are you kidding me BioWare? How could they have ever though that this storyline made sense? This is deeply troubling.
    Solas thinks there is no other better option. I guess we'll never know, since the Inquisitor was never allowed to search for one. Nor was Rook. BioWare just fast-forwarded us straight to the end result. Our Inquisitors are inept liars. Our Rooks trapped behind pawns. No option to discover a way to open a Breach but contain it so the elvhen can return while also sparing Thedas. No way to uncover what other forces are at work to tear down the veil so they can advance their nefarious plans. No way to show Solas that he's being used by hidden forces or by Mythal's essence.
    So the ritual is interrupted, and two evanuris come out of the rift. This at least played out like I expected, with two evanuris appearing to have retained their power. I simply got the specific evanuris wrong. Or maybe BioWare stole my idea and switched the evanuris around. My guess was Elgar'nan and Falon'Din. And yes, this is all Solas' fault. Rook did not release the evanuris. They were going to be released anyway if the veil dropped. Solas was caught sleeping on the evanuris, and the Inquisitor even tried to warn him about that back in Trespasser. If you bring down the veil, the false gods would be freed. But Solas "had plans". No, Solas is just a screw-up.
    Real talk, this encounter should have happened toward the END of the game, when all companions were recruited. Then you could disrupt the ritual in a number of different ways. But of course BioWare dropped the ball. I really can't understand why they thought this was a good direction to take the story.
    Overall, I had mixed feelings on this. But I think I'm leaning toward disliking it. The rest of the game will have to really impress in order for me to buy it.

      I understand you have concerns. I will say this, they cut out much to avoid too many spoilers. Choices from the start of the game during character creation will also count, though they not revealed what those choices will be. Also, I suspect we will gave a system similar to perks, more dialogue options later on. I also think they removed some dialogue options. I have not read everything Felassan shared yet, just skimmed through it. 4 posts. I am hoping to find confirmation for this there.
      Of course what they showed is full of plotholes, because they removed tons from the game's intro.
      I will judge the story and plot line once I have played the game.
      I think the ritual site was either protected or exists half in the Fade and thus was hudden from view before Solas starting his ritual within it.
      I think the soft is okay but I too am nit a fan.
      I also a, nit a fan of the 9 years since Inquisition, but hey, there are reasons regarding that, that we have not yet seen. Both Ghil Dirthalen and Kala Elizabeth alluded to it but they can't say anything about it and we will understand why later, eiether when more is revealed or when we olay, but there are explanations. I trust those girls and their judgement. They played the game and gave feedback. Catie knows the lore better than me even. I will trust her word regarding certain things.
      I think, let's not jump the gun or jump on the mongering train. There was a lot missing in what we saw, so I cannot judge is just on that. I understand though the worries and concerns and I appreciate you listing them here. I hope we get the answers we seek and that your worries are assuaged.

      @@DarthShadie Yeah I understand a lot has been cut out. For example, I'm sure we fight some of Solas' agents in Our Lady of Victory, and then use their keystone to get to Arlathan Forest, and then fight some more agents in the forest, but even what little we were shown seems to indicate that we will actually have very little choice over anything since most of what Rook says is overwritten by a companion.
      People say he's not the leader yet, but we don't know that. We may have been recruited and certified in the bar, or even before that. So as far as we know, Rook is supposed to be the leader here and yet people keep defying him. But this I DO know, whether Rook is the leader at this point or not, the player's choices are definitely not being respected.
      They revealed some of those perks and choices. It mainly relates to gameplay, like number of potions, or damage against certain enemies. Also, backstory will be referenced, but that is mainly just topical spice. Nothing deep related to choices though. For example, A Grey Warden Rook might have some extra dialogue about darkspawn and maybe a damage bonus. But I'm referring to major storyline branches and plans. BioWare advertised this as a game where the player's choice will be respected, since this is supposedly our story.
      If things have been removed from the demo and that is why the plotholes are there, then okay. I can accept that. I question why BioWare would show it, but I will at least wait for the full product in that case.
      I think I will wait and see how the reviews go, an if the Hero of Ferelden makes a cameo.
      It may have been hidden in the Fade, but the Hero and the Circle knew how to reveal such hidden structures. I guess this comes down to BioWare's treatment of the Inquisition, really. They gave us the choice to scale down or disband, and it seems like BioWare funneled both choices into disbandment. The Inquisition seems to do nothing within these nine years, sadly.
      I don't trust their word, but I will reserve judgement nonetheless.
      Yeah I won't dump hate on the game, but I think I will post my critiques to BioWare's page and I think I will also join up with the BSN finally and make some posts there.

      Yeah, and the demons have an explanation. Why they are so different.
      Or we were recruited and then later we are made the leader, like in Inquisition.
      I get you. Maybe they could have shown the Varric Solas cutscene, and perhaps encountering Neve, to showcase voice and some fun cutscenes, but then made the rest JUST the gameolay, exploring and fighting. Maybe even show later in the game, just exploration that includes fights and such without any major spoilers. That might have been better than so many cutscenes with missing scenes. Then we'd know things happen before this instead of things happening in between things we've seen. More confusing how they did it.
      Voicing your concerns to BioWare directly is a good tactic.
      I understand your scepticism in trusting the council members. I know some felt disheartened because they can't say what they know but want to reassure folks, so they are torn. I am glad I was not one, seeing this, because I am so damn sensitive lol I'd hate to have to keep such secrets. I trust them, but I see where you're coming from and looking at that angle, yeah there may be some shilling going on mixed in with it all too.

    This does not resemble Dragon Age anymore! You can't control party members, you're down to two party members, it's only three active abilities, you don't even pretend it's an RPG anymore. This is just another action game, that's been modernized. The girl gamers will love all the romance crap, and the young generation will appreciate the twitch combat.. But the fans of Dragon Age, who have been here from the beginning, likely see nothing here that even slightly resembles Dragon Age..
    After playing through Dragon Age inquisition, this is exactly where I expected the series to and. I could clearly see that we're going towards pure action, little to no choice and consequence, and skill trees that really are quite pointless. The priorization is on diversity and inclusion, and id be willing to bet, monetization..
    I just don't understand why they keep calling it Dragon age... At this point, they could have just spun a new series.. This is Dragon Age, in name only...😢
    Edit: And why is Tevinter look like it is in a modern era?? Spotlights, neon signs, what the heck?!

    • @_tasiaxnot
      @_tasiaxnot 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      You’re clearly not a dragon age fan if your asking why Tevinter looks more modern. Ferelden has been called primitive compared to Tevinter for the past three games. And it’s also a decade into the future.
      Also your opinion means nothing to me if you think prioritizing diversity and inclusion is a negative. You also seem really annoying and condescending just because you like tactics more than action. Neither is better than the other, they’re just different. And Dragon Age hasn’t been a tactic focused series for two games. Move on.

      @@_tasiaxnot I think you are being unfair when it comes down to people expectations of what Tevinter looks like. We had a few examples of what Tevinter looked with Kirkwall being a ancient city of the Tevinter Imperium, in Absolution and in the comics and none showed Tevinter to look so modern like. They mostly shown cities with big beautiful castles made of pale stones, but it was nowhere near anything buildings hanging from the sky we saw in Veilguard.
      Does Minrathous looks beautiful? Of course. Was it anything representative of what we had seen of Tevinter cities before? No. So it's not surprising people have mixed feeling about it.

      I have been obsessed with Dragon Age since Origins. This DOES look and feel like a Dragon Age game. Just saying.

    • @DarthShadie
      @DarthShadie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@EarwineSeaman This is a valid observation. Also, Minrathous is not the rest of Tevinter. In the lore and books, it is different from, for example, Verantium. It is run by magic and the gaudiness of mages. Thus it makes sense to me it would be the Nar Shaddaa of Thedas.

    • @EarwineSeaman
      @EarwineSeaman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DarthShadie Oh I'm not saying Minrathous shouldn't look different from other cities of Tevinter. Like you said it's the capital of Tevinter and run by magic. It's just that it is extremely different from anything we have seen before hence why people might feel a thrown off by the city design.
      Especially those who didn't read the comics, books or even seen Absolution. All they have for references of Tevinter are Kirkwall and ancient Tevinter ruins 😆
