The imagery, the animation, the night owls, and don’t think we’re not all trying to pull a “what does it mean” with the desert and the being pulled into the ocean because we absolutely are. Just saw the BTBAM show at the Knitting Factory in Boise, ID, last night. They played the entirety of Colors II and even some songs from Alaska. Absolutely phenomenal! The drum solos live were brain melting.
the way this one ends, i just have a feeling its about to go into a heavy, emotive banger. when they said colors 2 i was skeptical, cuz i didnt think they could replicate that sound again but this is absolutely on the money.
With the full album's context this seems to be a rather hopeless song. They protest and riot and "bring it all down" but in the end, the city is still there. Its not something that can be brought down, at least not permanently. Thats just my interpretation tho, with my assumption that the album is a continuous narrative. Maybe you took it in a completely different way lol
I just want to put out there that this is the best metal band ever. I saw them perform the OG Colors back in like 2007. To this day, I vividly remember every detail, standing side stage next to Paul and having my mind completely blown. I've never seen anyone perform something so intricate, better than the recording. Colors II is literally the same album, made in an alternate universe. I can never express the amount of love I want to give these guys. Give me an option for monthly payment subs so I can give you my money, you wonderful bastards.
YES. I saw them support Dillinger Escape Plan, and I'd vaguely heard of btbam but had written them off for some reason. It's STILL the best live set I've seen in person. And they were the support act! I haven't had a chance to see them since, that'd be the only way to top it
Ah man i just saw them this past Wednesday for the very first time. It took me 10 years to get into them (listened but didn’t like it) but when I finally did, like right after automata, it easily became the best band and show I’ve ever been too.
Blake's brother produced the Astral Body video, and nowadays it costs an insane amount for his time I've heard. Also, this video is amazing and I recognize how intricate it is.

I don't think so. That was on The Great Misdirect. It would be cool, but it wouldn't make alot of sense. Nothing before The Parallax 1 was even fully conceptual. I know The Great Misdirect had a narrative of sorts, but like I said, I don't think it was in reference to the end of that album.

I also read the album overall has a loose narrative that details that guys journey to the ocean and the various things he comes across. Such as the cult from Disease, Injury, Madness and the tribe that illegally plays music in the desert in Desert of Song. Either way, that's super interesting. The Parallax 2 definitely has one complicated narrative to it but I think I have it understood for the most part. It's one hell of a story to try to dive into.

It always blows my mind that BTBAM can take any riff and translate it into different styles and perspectives. This song has Ants of the Sky riffs all over it, but completely different contexts.
Definitely. To me, it's "art music" without being overly pretentious. The way they use and manipulate musical themes is one of my favorite things about them.
