  • Cannon Builder requested a shop layout and shop tour video, so figured I would make one. Just showing my thougths on welding shop, or fab shop, or any work shop. You could do somethign similar in a detached garage workshop. If you have any shop, garage, or workshop ideas on suggestions, layout, etc let me know. This actually could be used for a home business manufacturing or assembly line factory.
    Plus updates on projects around the shop. Another day in the life at the country, rustic, hillbilly homesteading lifesyle here at the oldbarn homestead. We do metal fabrication, welding, grinding, machining, painting, metal art, cnc plasma. The shop name is Ramsey Customs Near Dallas, TX 75209… Texas Daily Vlog style videos

    Set-Up Work Triangles based on similar sequenced operations. Your productivity will increase by at least 25% for not having to walk back and forth between related stations.
    Also, more shelves. take advantage of your vertical space where ever possible. For instance, your wood cut offs. Placing them into similar size/species groupings on a shelf, you now have a wood library to choose from, rather than a clutter on the floor that traps saw dust and mice nests. Do the same with your steel cut-offs. Categorize all you little steel bits and random cut-offs. That way, you've got a good visual and a refreshed memory of you have.
    I can't believe how many times I went and bought stuff in the last month, since my move, that I already have. Because I hadn't done a full visual inventory and properly sorted things out yet.

    You have a nice clean shop. I like that you are not afraid to move things around so that it works better. I've worked in a many shops where things are laid out in no logical order and the people in charge refuse to move anything.

    Open space is always a premium in my shop. I am jealous of all your open areas. I'll bet you are anxious to get your new table. Always fun to get a new piece of equipment. Take Care, Reid

    Great setup Gary !!! Thank you for taking us along !!! One thing I try to do is have my grinding area fairly close to my setup and tacking area . That way I can get things fitted a little faster!! I been with you for a while now and I still saw things I had forgotten !!! You have a really nice shop and I think you do good on staying organized!! Especially compared to me. !!!! Be safe my friend and God bless you !!!!!! Eddy

    Work flow is different in every shop. Yours seems pretty good. It only has to work for you. Myself I would probably hang a large shelf in the shipping area over the bench for boxes and packing. Gain a little floor space. Thanks for sharing

      Great point about the shelves. There are several areas around the shop I could put some shelves for sure.

    You are lucky to have a lot of space. I envy you. I have barely enough room to lay out my everlast welders so I don't have to keep moving things around to get at them.

    Great video. Only thing that makes my eye twitch is mill next to weld station. I have 6x6 and 6x8 welding curtains on rolling frames for that reason.

    Love the shop. I need a beater table now. I'm scared to weld on mine for same reasons. Mines just a cnc plasma cut with clamping slats similar to the Miller tables

    Note to myself, have Designated areas,Labeled to what area they are!! You got new guy's asking ware the Chop saw is, if they see all the signs Designated, makes it self explanatory, hopefully.

    I think your lathe tooling cabinet should be beside your lathe but that was the only obvious one to me.

    • @OldbarnHomestead
      @OldbarnHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's mostly got hte large mill tooling in it, and about 25% of it lathe stuff, so i just left it. I want to get a bigger lathe and sell this one. I like it, seems to work good, but would be fun to make some bigger cuts
