Timo is still super good despite being almost 2 and a half times felix's age. Truely the European goat of table tennis. He will be remembered throughout history.
@@Felix-st2ue ok, but to be fair, J.O didn't have Ma Long stomping him every world championship. Timo got mad unlucky with the number of insane chinese players around that time. JO only had to face liu guo liang and also, the game changed so much since then that it's hard to compare the two. Maybe it would be best to call him the EU goat of the golden era, but Timo is the european goat of modern tt.
@@3dprintworld503It was Waldner who beat Ma Lin in the Olympics.Boll was ranked no1 when Schlager won the WTTC. Ma Long wasn't a player of his generation,he had his prime in the 00's but just wasn't good enough. Can't be the best European when a guy like Maze had a better run at the WTTC than him.
@@antang6964 I would say Schalger, Maze, Perrson, and even Samsonov were all part of the old era (80s~2010). After that, Timo boll dominated the European scene along with Ovtcharov. On top of that, he was one of the only players from the old era who survived the ball change in 2016. Also, Timo boll is explicitly stated as the longest world #1 in EU TT from the new era, so there's that to consider. Other than just his career record, he has arguably the best sportsmanship and an amazing personality, something that won the hearts of even the Chinese. He has become the face of Table Tennis in the west and will long be remembered as that one European who stood toe to toe against the Chinese juggernauts.
@@3dprintworld503 Maze actually was younger than him.Boll really ghosted in the WTTC/Olympics in the 00's so people have the impression that he was was a contemporary of Ma Long which he wasn't. He was part of the Ma Lin/Wang Hao/Wang Liqin generation that lost the WTTC to Schlager and the Olympics to Waldner/Ryu.Of course he was the face of TT but strictly due to commercial reasons. If Waldner was left-handed he would have won a lot more against the Chinese, Boll played in an era when the CNT had 2 penholders as main players and still couldn't do anything in the majors. I won't even get into a discussion about European players during Boll's era, other than Samsonov who didn't train that much after he got married he didn't have much competition from European players. He was 10 years younger than the Saive/Primorac/Kreanga generation plus the 40mm ball was introduced when they were in their 30's.And still lost at the Olympics to Crisan.
