In a Matrix report, the number of columns is dynamic, whereas in a Table report, the number of columns is fixed. Additionally, a Table report can be summarized or detailed, whereas a Matrix report is summarized only. These are two key differences between Table and Matrix visualizations in Power BI.
The Matrix visual consists of Rows, Columns, and Values sections. In the Rows and Columns sections, you can drag and drop dimensions or non-numeric data, while in the Columns section, you can add measures or numeric data.
You also have drill down/up feature in Matrix. You can Drill ON both at Row and Column Level. In it you also have Expand all down one level in the hierarchy and Go to the next Level in the Hierarchy. You can also Right Click on a Particular Column and Perform the Drill Down Operation
You can customize the Matrix visual by increasing the size of column headers and row headers, making them bolder, and changing text colors. In the Values section, you can adjust the text size displayed in the grid.
Options to hide or unhide row subtotals and column subtotals are available. In the general settings, you can enable a title and add a divider.
There are various style presets such as None, Minimal, Bold Header, Condensed, Flashy Rows, Alternating Rows, Contrast Alternating Rows, etc., to customize the appearance of the Matrix visual.
