The 987 boxster is the best kept secret in the Porsche world. A valved exhaust will transform you experience, and if you're feeling brave, upgrade the suspension. I've been on a quest to make a poor man's boxster Spyder. My car has a valved top gear exhaust, full cayman R suspension, numeric shift cables and shifter along with a fabspeed tune (or re-map as you brits would say! lol), and all this combined really wakes up the car. Next mods are recaro Pole positions and new wheels. The analog texture you get from driving it is sublime and it's such a sweetheart that never bites you. It may be a "hairdresser's car", but I'd take it over a 911 every time (outside a GT3 of course). And in the real world on a "B" road, it's plenty quick.

A lot of people say that updating the shifter and cables to a short throw kit with cables included makes a big difference, maybe yours doesn’t have any play but they apparently are prone to having the original shifter cables snapping. Could be worth looking into. The kit with the cables is about $1000, plus labor. I’m currently saving my 💰 now for a 987.1 manual Boxster S, had a chance to drive a 2005 extensively several years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. I can’t wait to have one of my own. Depends how you look at it and what you’re comparing to. Fuel, servicing and consumables will be relatively high compared to a new or more “run of the mill” car. However when you factor purchase price and depreciation (these are quite cheap to buy and unlikely to depreciate by much more) then compared to buying a new car, they can be cost effective. However for me they work perfect as a weekend car alongside a more modern and economical daily driver.

As a Boxster 981 6MT owner I completely concur with your commentary about the way it drives and makes you feel. The PSE is a fantastic option which enhances the experience. It be retrofitted by Porsche - there are cheaper options but keeping it genuine is worthwhile, particularly if you see yourself keeping the car for several years. If you intend to have it serviced by official Porsche dealers get ready for serious price shock for parts and labour. Again, though, if its got a good maintenance history its worth it in the long run.

@CarChaps It’s not fine - your dealer is full of it. One good rain and you’ll start accumulating water…in the top tray first and then likely under the seats. Not good. It’s a cheap and easy fix though, so go for it!
Otherwise, great video. Nice color combo. A very fair assessment. The sport seats and sport steering wheel are excellent finds. Does your Boxster have PASM? If it’s in the on-on position (yellow light on, I think) it’s a pretty harsh ride.
The 2.7 and 3.2 motored cars are really solid. Just get frequent oil changes and you’ll be fine.
Save your money and skip the mods. These cars are superb as the factory built them. Invest your money in keeping all the maintenance up and you’ll be a long-term happy owner.
