Thanks Squirrel Monkey, for featuring my roller coaster! The style and the voice are amazing. Besides, I am tired to see only guys making tech videos. George L.
I remember this machine back in the 80’s. Basically, everybody at my school had one, and would always brag about it to people that didn’t. I got tired of people bullying me for not owning an Oculus, so I decided to purchase one, for $600, which honestly is pretty cheap. I loved playing the game “Roller Coaster” on the headset, but sometimes, the weird tracking cubes would die, and I would have to refill them with new battery’s. Personally, I’m not sure if anybody else remembers this fun gem, but I sure did, and it was a blast when I was a kid. Thanks for the nostalgia!
For a moment I thought this was an actual video taken from a real old HMD which nobody heard of before which was called Oculus lol...its that realistic.
I think that people don't have 4 outlets in every corner of the room, so that's why we made up the batteries. When I was a kid, I built a Velleman FM oscillator (technically a $8 radio studio) and it would run for days on one 9 volt battery.
Wow... you have put a lot of work in this video... I felt surprised when I saw the renders of what the Oculus Headset would look like in the 80's... Great work.
this is way more LATE 80's, early 90's. most 80286 was still using 5.24 floppies and the modem sound was 14,400 at least, but I'm really impressed either way.
The title says "1980s", which includes the late '80s. :) I agree, it is unlikely that people could have afforded the system, but it's situated in an alternate universe.
Even though these videos are just parodies of modern day things, they look somewhat legit because of how grainy it is. Keep it up with the awesome stuff, you guys. 😉
VR did exist in the 70s and 80s with graphics just like this video. They were originally used for professional tech enthusiasts with thousand dollar pcs. In the 1990s, VR first started appealing to consumers with lower end gaming versions such as the Philips Scuba and Forte Technologies VFX-1 headset at $800. I'm surprised that so many people never did research on the history.
"Sometimes, when people use the oculus rift, their radio goes out. Instead, it plays this : *HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHH* " that scared the crap out of me
Only a 286? Wow, that doesn't need a lot of processing power at all! I would like to see it use less batteries though. Maybe in the next model, they could make it so you could plug in the base stations!
That was great except y’all messed up saying “classic vector games” If this supposed to be produced in the 80s, nobody wouldn’t call it classic back then lol It would be like people in the 70s calling Queen classic rock
Those vector games are from the late 70s and early 80s. In the game industry 9-10 years, especially in those days, is a lot of years. I am sure that games like pacman/tapper/pango/frogger/alley cat/etc. were already considered "classics" in the late '80s. Compare the game Alley Cat (1984) with Doom II (1994). That's just a ten year difference! Crazy, isn't it?
Imagine all these awesome cartoons and series imported as vr games. Would look like crap , but we still gonna loved them , like we did the master system and nes graphics.
Blue LEDs in the 1980s? This really is an expensive bit of kit!
Lenses with those Xmas tree type of colored lights and a lot of tape.
Yes, I imagine the time machine required to send them back from the early 90's (when they were first invented) cost a mint.
@@isolationismdotcom Well, I mean, technically, they were invented in 1972, improved in the '80s, and were accessible to most people by the '90s.
