Aww. Rats are so intelligent and can be such kind pets. It's so sad to think that thousands upon thousands are tested on for the sake of makeup and other human products. :(
It's so sad they have such short lives too! The biggest reason I won't ever have one is a pet is that, I just can't go through the heartache of losing a pet every few years. I learned that lesson with my little hamster as a kid.

Cookie is so precious! I don't see many fancy rats with full brown coats like that in pet stores around here. Most of them are hooded or hairless. I hope she's doing alright.
I have two rats of my own. The are like really intelligent animals and very sweet
I have 2 rat boys named Remy and Olaf. Rats are cool.
I know they're smart and sweet, but I just can't handle the tail. That and the short lifespan are the main reasons I'm a guinea pig person.
Notice how she said 'their cage'. They do need friends that they can't mate with.
Rats are the best pets ever. I lost my girl splinter to cancer a month ago and I just cant get over it. She was the most loving and caring little angel in the world. RIP my special.
My son has 2 male rats and they are the sweetest. The oldest is about 6 months old, and he has really grown attached to me and I love when he gives me kisses . As soon as he sees me talking to the other rat he comes running. I think he gets jealous.

I had a rat who had seizure problems, she would have a seizure attack once in a week. Hopefully we treated her with seizure medecine for children everyday and it worked pretty well !
*NOTE FOR THOSE THINKING OF OWNING RATS:* Never buy just one, you have to buy them in pairs or they get hella depressed.
Groups of 3+ are ideal. They’re group animals, not pair animals, so more than two rats can foster more natural group dynamics. Also, you might not get 2-3 years, unfortunately. Basically any rat owner I know who has been keeping rats for awhile has lost at least one early. Best not to put yourself into a situation where you might have to scramble to get companions for a lone rat.

I had a girl named Hanna, my favorite rat, she was the sweetest rat I ever had and the last one I owned due to it being so hard to loose her, who looked just like this rat(AKA Agouti) who had seizures for the last year of her life, she would seize and then go into a blind rage and attack anything in her way including me. She sadly had to live alone because she tore apart one of my rats during one of her first episodes and the rat she attacked ended up in the emergency with major injuries and broken toes. There was no medicine that helped and but fortunately, her seizures were not often, once or twice a month at most.
Aww that's so sad. My old rat Oreo died from cancer and that was like a year ago I miss him a lot.
I hope cookie is doing well, I have 6 boys who are my world.

Cookie? Awww, I had a rat named Cookie. I took him to the vet because he was lethargic. The vet gave me liquid antibiotics. But he was so bad off that he wouldn't even swallow it; it just dribbled out of his mouth. He died the next day. I bawled like a baby, mostly because I felt so guilty that I hadn't noticed sooner that he wasn't well.
I had the same story with my first rattie- my sweetie 💜 she was such a sweetheart from the beginning, I immediately became obsessed!!!
She also looked like a wild rat hehe but she was very wonderful and cute
We love rats but unfortunately we haven't had much luck in the health department. They all end up with severe raspatory illness and that costs a fortune in vet bills. We've tried breeders and pet stores with no luck.
Were you putting down fleece in their cage? Fleece locks in the ammonia from their urine which isn't good for their breathing. I had 2 female rats and I never used fleece but a plastic sputnik ball for their bed which they loved to put kitchen roll and tissue paper in. I lined the platforms and bottom of the cage with cardboard. They never got any breathing problems. Sadly as many girl ratties get- they got tumours when they got old and had to be helped over the rainbow bridge at the vets.
@@mabel8179blankets are just fine if washed regularly. My girls do better with it than other bedding.

I love rats. They are so sweet, and I think, beautiful. We had two, but they don’t live very long and I was heartbroken when they died. Love your show too!

that sunds like the rat was choking on food. the foam at the mouth is the saliva they spit up to help get the food out

i cant see why people would want rats as pets... i have never even seen a rat and i am glad that my nightly bumpins only include a small mouse. If i saw a rat near me i think i would run away
azra au as long as they aren't pulled straight from the wild, i hear that they're very caring and smart animals! To each their own, though. They certainly aren't the traditional dog, cat, or fish

You have never owned a rat I'm guessing so...you don't even know what they are like. I have 4 rats and I just got 2 of them 2 weeks ago. They are just like cats and dogs but they are smaller and more cute in my opinion. I love rats so much. They are loving and affectionate and smart.
