EXCELLENT - Jah Wobble is one of the greatest - yet one of the most under rated by the mainstream - British musicians of all time. A talented, genuine and honest creative genius who stuck to his guns and had it his way. Huge respect

Sono d'accordo è un grande in
Italia è praticamente sconosciuto dal grande pubblico
Più sono bravi, più vengono trascurati.

summer 1994 I heard "Sun Does Rise" on the radio (Im from U.S.) loved it, had to find their CD, found "Take Me to God". different but enjoyable. Here I am 30 years later seeing what else I missed out on. Bravo!

The personality and music of Jah Wobble are all about diversity. From pungent London punk underground over rose pedalled Algerian rai-music to jasmine scented Chinese dub.
Jah Wobble may be best known as a member of Invaders of The Heart, Deep Space, and now The Damage Manual. Wobble was also the original bassist for Public Image, he has also played with David Holmes, Holgar Czukay, Primal Scream, The Edge, François K and Brian Eno, to name a few.
Born John Wardle in Stepney, East London he was given the name Jah Wobble by a drunken Sid Vicious, who also loaned him his first bass guitar. Embracing both punk and reggae, Wobble created an original rock/reggae hybrid all of his own.
The Sex Pistols connection continued when Wobble joined John Lydon in Public Image Limited (aka PiL) with his distinctive low-end bass providing the backbone and heartbeat of the band.
His critical stance towards the commercialisation of the music business, compounded by heavy drinking and drunken brawls, led to his abandoning music - it was him who attacked rock journo Nick Kent at the Club 100 after a harsh and aloof review.
For a short period in the mid-1980s, he worked a variety of straight jobs, such as for the London Underground. In an oft-quoted tale, it is related that he once, at Tower Hill Tube, humorously regaled commuters via the Public address system with the deadpan announcement, “I used to be somebody. I repeat, I used to be somebody.”
Still, he continued to perform and record his music in what spare time he had.
Wobble has since collaborated with a wide variety of musicians, including original Can members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit, Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Bill Laswell, Harold Budd, Sinead O'Connor, Primal Scream, Natacha Atlas, and Bjork, and his output has spanned a number of musical genres including avant-garde jazz-rock, English folk, multi-cultural fusion, ambient, dance, and the writings of William Blake.
In the late 90s, he set up his own independent label, 30 Hertz Records, and has released a series of more experimental, non-commercial sounding records, including cross-cultural projects, such as Chinese and Japanese Dub.

Love Jah. PIL's strength lay in his bass playing & Lydon's searing delivery of lyrics. It's great to hear these newer songs and some of the revamp. But why, oh why, was the mix on Jah's bass-playing so low? One never hides one's strengths...

Nice job by Kevin Suggs. Taming THAT bass must have taken a day filled with expert diplomacy. The only time I ever saw Wobble live was in the Caverns in Glasgow, with Bill Laswell and Jaki Leibzeit, and some other famous names I've now forgotten. The problem was the only sound that could be perceived was the bass. Not heard (or even felt) but drowned. Jaki spent the whole gig at the front of the stage with a pained expression on his face. The man is brilliant!

That's Marc Layton Bennett, and he's right handed. His father bought a drum kit in the Sixties, and not knowing how to set it up, he copied the setup from a photo, only it was of a kit setup left handed. Not knowing any better at the time he learned to play left handed. When Marc started playing he used his father's kit, so they both ended up playing left handed, even though they are both right handed...
