I have alopecia randomly all over my head so this is why I have never gotten locs. the missing patches are easier to hide in my loose afro.
If I lost a whole loc I i would lose my mind
I do microlocs and what you are saying is absolutely true. I don't follow a hard and fast grid instead I customise my micros to the client's hair. It works better for the client and me.
Your skin and beard looks beautiful. Thanks for the detailed explanation. You'd be great at teaching cosmetology. You speak well where people can easily understand. Stay blessed young man.
As a sista with sisterlocks. I know. Lol. ❤❤❤
I agree with everything you said! I opted for microlocks instead due to the flexibility it provides.
I have a friend who's hair is very very thin......and i swear it looks like she's lost a sisterlock every time I see her. I think they should have told her upon initial consultation that she needed a different type of loc. My sister too...she has a decent density but she's lost a bunch of them around the edges and now she's regretting getting them.
This woman on IG said that SL will make your hair fall out and people were clowning her. I was one of them. However she was just saying your hair was going to fall out one way or the other. The points you make are very logical.
This explains why some women look like Raggedy Ann that have Sisterlocks. They only look good on very high density hair as you stated. I have seen women with Sisterlocks whose hair looked awful and never looked better as it grew out.
What you say makes a lot of sense. I wonder if they will ever revisit the grid concept? I have had SL for 6 years. And I do see parts of my scalp that I think should have more or fewer locs . I guess that’s why people sometimes combine. The different rotation patterns can account for some of the variation in texture but not density.
This is good. Thank you.
I agree. I got microlocs and they are not the same size throughout my head due to the density throughout my head.
This makes me feel better. I started my locs, I wouldn’t necessarily call them micro locs but they are smaller than regular size locs. I made sure to use a grid pattern but some of my locs are significantly thicker despite the part size being the same. Not being unrealistic because I expected them to not be the same size but some of them are really really thick.
@ mine were established by a microloc location. Where my hair density is the thickest is where my locs are thicker. She did/does an amazing job. I love her 😍
What you described here is exactly why I went with microlocs. My loctician adjusted my parting based on density in different sections since I have thinning in some areas. She also suggested the appropriate size to make sure my locs are sustainable. I have only had to combine two locs into one when I have 330+ locs.
Every now in then I wonder if I should have gotten sisterlocs instead of micros but hearing stuff like this I’m glad with my choice
Thank you Narada ❤
I have sisterlocks and somewhat agree, sisterlocks are great for fuller densities. Lower densities may have issues down the line.
However, thinning or breaking can happen to anyone, no matter the size of the loc. There are plenty ppl who've had locs fall out looool.
I've started and maintained so many heads of locs and microlocs all textures, all densities and have never had to do repair or combining when my clients were consistent. If you lose locs it's because you had a faulty foundation or you weren't properly maintaining. Most people tend to neglect their locs hence why they run into issues down the line.
You are so right!! I have sisterlocks and I should have gotten microlocks because of this very thing I have combined some and now I know I will in the future.
I agree. My sister has them but she has a lot of hair and she did them herself and maintains it herself
They look so awesome and even better when they aren’t freshly done, I wish I could show a picture
Thank you.
I never thought of this 😮?
I had sisterlocs(brotherlocs sense I’m a guy) for 6 years and one thing people don’t speak about besides the cost is how common traction alopecia is! Sisterlocs will eventually take your hair out. It happened to me and I didn’t even wear constricting styles.
Family member just took her sistah locs out when she noticed some were falling out. Think she had them for like 2 years.
Hey Narada, I was wondering how often would you say we can wear our curls/kinks? Outside of the twist and cornrows?
I thought I saw a video where you said you weren't doing locs anymore. It could have been an old video.
I want locs, but the price people are quoting me... 🙃
I just love your bald head ❤❤❤
Quick question I’m getting 2 strand twist in my hair Tommrow leaving them in until the first okay ? (2-4 weeks)
Look I’m realizing we are going to be going back to square one. I think the inventor genes skipped our generation lol
The way that I cannot stand Sisterlocs. Ugh. I guess cause I grew mine the regular way and went through all of the stages- I feel like Sisterlocs are cheating.😂 And regular locs just look better. 🤷🏾♀️
Why do you think sisterlocks are cheating?
