I don't usually post TH-cam comments, but this video helped me fix my sump pump all by myself without spending any money. Saved me a lot of stress. Thank you!

Thank you for the video! Have you considered extending the second exhaust pipe into the pit, rather than just capping it? Is letting water stay in that pipe a good idea?

I ended up retrenching the entire line on the outside with all new lines. My line had a roots growing through from a small landscape tree. Cheap plastic.

You never need a battery back up until you need it

Or just run a generator or a big inverter hooked to your car.

I would never rely on one pump in a pit. If you don’t want to rely on battery backup, then fit a second pump elevated with a brick. Redundancy is the key.

Put water to just below the intake holes in a bucket and then fill it up about a half inch HCL hydrochloric acid it'll be called muriatic acid. In your hardware store Just put enough in so you can see it fizzing nice it won't hurt the metal it won't hurt the impellers, but it will loosen up and dissolve all of the mineral deposits that get clogged up in there. It works like a charm leave it in for an entire day.

@@RandomReviewsHowTos I agree with Terence, you didn't show us how to fix a clogged sump pump. I'm not being mean or anything, no of course not, but you really didn't, so I agree the title is misleading but oh well lol!
Anyways, you should've used the pump water from your other pump to fill your bucket to test/clean the old pump in the bucket instead of using your garden hose adding MORE water to the ground, just saying ;) And yes you absolutely should have a battery back up!! Or two (one new one on hand, and also pipes/fittings for them. That flex hose you have is an excellent idea for emergency use for sure!).
Again trust me, you need to have a battery back up. That saved my house more then once. And btw, you are MOST likely to lose power during a bad storm, when you least expect it and need the sump pump the most, seems like when it rains it really does pour these days, literally.
And yeah besides getting a gas generator, the battery back ups are a good option, at least have one on hand to stick in quickly, and if you have a boat, you can take the battery out of that.. Another good idea is get Sewer Back up Insurance, it doesn't cost much per year, and it will cover thousands in damages. If you have a lot of water problems I'd look into it. I have State Farm but I assume all Insurance companies have it. Doesn't hurt to ask them.
Anyways, I came here b/c I noticed mine was running and not doing anything, just swirling water. It wasn't pumping outside. It is pumping water though, when I took the check valve off I plugged it in for a second, (about 3 feet up is where the check valve is) and water came out, but doesn't pump outside, it's either shot, or not enough power to pump the water up high enough, (only needs to go up 5 feet more ya know). I assume b/c the impeller is clogged or broken. I'll look at it later as the rain has stopped, slash its like 5AM and I might make a video too, might as well. I'll take it apart if I can, but yeah I assume like yours, the screws are probably all rusted and will strip easily. If so, I think I'll try using a power washer, like at one of those do it yourself car washes ya know.
