Justin, I just gotta tell you, not only do I really love your playing, but every time I watch one of your instructional vids that has you and this young lady playing and singing together I just sit there and smile, the two of you just sound soooo good together it's amazing. The combination of your great playing and her beautiful voice is just way over the top. I seem to get the vibe from you that you really like it to. Just an observation dude. Please, more of the two of you would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for all you do for us.
I had lessons for four years and learnt almost nothing except a few chords and a few melodies, but you can actually teach.

Traditional guitar teaching methods suck IMO. I learned about 10x faster once I started watching TH-cam videos from people like Justin and Marty Schwartz :)
Than u should've switched teachers BUT it takes years to learn.
exact same thing took lessons for years its as if i was taught as little as possible over a long period to get money outta me. one year learning from justin and finally getting to where i want to be at with the guitar
One of the things I absolutely adore about Justin's lessons is that he gives lots of alternatives and stresses that there isn't always necessarily a "right" way to play something. I think it's an essential message, especially for beginners. I wanted to toss out the alternative I use that he didn't mention (in this vid) for switching to a pick: Hybrid Picking! I use it for most "fingerstyle"stuff I do.

I always go to both 😆, I learn a little from Marty and then a little from Justin on guitar. My songs are always a collaboration of parts from Marty and parts from Justin. Sometimes I get lost on Marty's because he's so fast so those parts I always go here because Justin really slows it down, They're both awesome

What a gem of a song - the lyrics and the acoustic guitar. Great lesson by Justin. What makes this song stand-out is the partial chords and wide space note intervals. Still playing the Aussie Maton - good stuff. Love ya work.
Awesome lesson as always! Getting all the little details that Marty glosses over, so I find that the two of your lessons usually end up complementing each other quite nicely. And great pointer about the strumming pattern. I've been struggling with what exactly to do there!
Regarding what to do regarding the pick at the chorus, a 4th option is to do the fingerpicking in the verse hybrid style, holding the pick regularly in the thumb and forefinger to pluck the bass notes and using the third, fourth, and pinky fingers to pluck the other notes. Then you already have the pick where you want it to strum during the chorus.
The main drawback to this is that you have only 4 digits (pick + 3 fingers) instead of 5 available to pick, but that's still plenty for this song.

Okay, you have inspired me to try this as my first finger-style. OMG. I'm getting it, slowly. That "step-down" that is only played once is a killer. Can't get that. Part of the journey, I guess. I can't imagine trying to play this and sing. But baby steps. Great job instructing and taking time to explain it clearly! Thanks!

Beautiful song. Great tutorial. I picked it up from a tab but struggled to find a solid strumming pattern, yours is way better than the one I came up with myself so thanks for that. The intro also helped me greatly with singing while playing. You are a great teacher, Justin. And because I only needed a few seconds but watched the whole thing, I knew I had to sub up. Keep up the great work :)
