This is the kindest way to instantly kill it and not let the crab 🦀 suffer at all. Little crabbie just has some stray electrical impulses still left to twitch the legs a bit but once that decapitation is fine with the first basic head/face off snip it’s euthanized and not suffering. Think guillotine. The original reason for the invention was to make capital punishment humane and painless. Sure it had a downside being so efficient but the inventor can’t be held responsible for people misusing it. He had the right idea that such a quick and sudden decapitation would cut off nervous response and not let someone suffer. Earlier headsmen who had the job of chopping off heads for the lord of the area would rarely be able to do a painless job. There’s tons of stories of missed and people needing many swings to die. Either it was have someone holding them securely which put them in danger of losing hand(s) or the person could have any number of unintentional movements just at the wrong time causing partial chops into heads, shoulders, necks being cut into but not fully severed so sadly if someone is not hit just right the first time, then they’re in agony, screaming, crying, no good control to stay still, it might take 5-8 chops by the executioner’s axe or sword while the condemned person was suffering the entire time. Talk about trauma to them, everyone watching since they were all public back in the day, and I imagine most executioners died young of cirrhosis from drinking themselves to death, self-medicating due to job related Complex PTSD. THAT would have sucked all around, for EVERYONE!!!! The single scissor snip is the perfect 😅 little crabbie guillotine so one snip do quick it can’t register much and it’s out of pain. They can be stuck in the freezer for about 10 minutes to anesthetize them from the cold so they’ll be pretty much in a feeling less stupor or practically a crab coma. But it only looks brutal, it’s the very kindest way. With the big crabs or lobsters you can Freeze them for 15-20 minutes for extra anesthesia effect and plunge a sharp knife right between the eyes for the same instant and humane kill.
Make sure they are nice and lively he picks it up and tries to get it moved it's legs atleast for video lmao but Ilve good ole Maryland Baltimore style fried soft shell crabs goes great with a crawfish boil down here on the gulf coast with fresh raw oysters as well
Thanks. That’s the BEST clear visual about getting the right cuts!!!🤩🥰🤩🤗😁 I tried following another chef’s guide once and I screwed it all up 😢😵💫🥴and mostly ruined my test bunch because it didn’t properly explain how to remove the gills so I thought another cut got them (I’ve eaten plenty of crab 🦀 and knew how to open and remove normally from the cooked North Atlantic crab (I think Norwegian crab which is the kind I’m most familiar with is brown crab,)) but never having done the soft shell ones and almost never worked with the little blue swimmers…it was confusing. It led to a less than thrilling test run of trying to eat them pan fried and have to pick those out after like a normal boiled or grilled hard shell generally requires. It was NOT the same very simple lift the top shell off the bottom like a full getting under the hood of the car move 😅… The flipper legs for swimmers as opposed to spiky basic legs and feet bottom walkers and their much smaller size didn’t help in getting my bearings and not missing the right way when it was not shown well to begin with either. 😅😢 Thank you for so VERY CLEARLY and directly showing the face cut, lifting the sides of the top shell like getting under the hood of a cat just two sides as opposed to right down the front to rip those very small dead man’s fingers (gills) out. Here I don’t really ever see or get them alive, but I can get very high quality individually flash frozen soft shells that are then carefully boxed up so they are generous and easy to pull exactly how many I need at the given time. ❤😊 Defrost overnight or from the morning till the evening of use. I had often ordered in restaurants almost always it’s in sushi rolls with the crispy tempura fried soft shells usually called a deer roll or something similar, but they’re obnoxiously pricy for a mostly uncomplicated preparation and a very small piece of seafood, and as a fan of cooking at home, I was thrilled to find that making my own was really easily accessible. I rarely eat out because I’m often disappointed by what I get compared to the price I pay. I’m invariably left thinking I could have made this myself at less than half the price and probably made it better! 😅😊🤗🥰 I’m thrilled 😄 😊❤ at your excellent work of showing well, in good light and without any obstruction whatsoever. Yes, I get that there will be a few squeamish viewers freak out some seeing you snip the face off. It’s a bit shocking the first time on a live one, but it’s the fastest and most humane way to do it since you cut off the sensory nerves and kill it instantly with that first snip even if it has some leftover electrical impulses that make it twitch a bit even afterwards. It’s dead already and humanely euthanized 😅 in a super quick way no different from plunging a knife between the eyes, like with big crabs or a live lobster, you just do a quick snip right across and it’s an instant decapitation. Same same as far as effective handling!😅 ❤ It’s absolutely the way that is kindest to the creature and excellent tutorial for us cooks who even if experienced in the kitchen, there’s still going to be a first time for some specific procedure whether sourcing or handling of the food, and especially with seafood it’s very important that we know how to handle things right!!🧐🤗🥰👍 You’re a star 🌟!! For showing us with extreme clarity! Thank you again!! 😊❤🤩🤗🦀😘🥰👍😋🤤

Sorry man, that's not OK. What difference would it make for the customer if these poor little creatures would be already dead when you cut THEIR FACE and lungs off??
Is there a faster way to humanly kill a crab (or anything) than cutting its head off? What are the other options here? Let it suffocate? This is the best way to do the job unfortunately.
It brings me no joy to prepare and clean these crabs. Its part of my job and if I'd like to paying my bills etc its something I have to do. We respect the animals and thank them for their sacrifice.
@@Whoru87 Wow, I misread that initially - didn’t see the “no”, so as someone who also had to do this for a time to pay the bills, I was about to call you a sadist lol.
