Anna, you make really good points in this video. However, I have a different opinion about reclining. I fly a lot internationally, 10+ hour flights. If my back hurts or I am tired, I will recline. I've never had a problem with people reclining in front of me. I am normal size and keep myself in shape and do not need that extra space. So economy class works for me. I do agree that when people recline, it should be done gradually, though. If someone needs more space for whatever reason, it's on them to arrange it for themselves which could mean upgrading their seat to get more space. I disagree that people have to sit up and suffer in discomfort in fear of inconveniencing someone else at their own expense. That's not self love or self care, that's called betraying yourself and your own needs.
Perhaps you should bring a lumbar pillow or use neck pillow placed at your lower back. When someone reclines their seat in front of me, it absolutely crushes my knees and it's incredibly painful. I never recline my seat as I'm always thinking of how it impacts others. I'm always thinking how every action impacts others. A slight recline is acceptable (though it still hurts my knees) and understandable for a very long overnight flight. A full recline for a shorter flight is poor etiquette as far as I'm concerned.. not everyone is short.
@wendigo1919 Pehaps you should upgrade your seat for more space to arrange your own comfort, not expect others to suffer and be uncomfortable in order to arrange it for you. You also have an option to recline your own seat which will provide you with more space.
Hi, My pet peeve is people touching my seat when they are moving around the cabin. I do believe that there is an unwritten rule, or at least a common understanding, that you do that as little as possible. It's very rude to the person in the aisle seat, that have at long last managed to nod off, to wake them up in a panic because somebody is attacking from the side, or back or wherever you're walking. I have no issues with people having to using my back rest during turbulence, but in calm waters? That's a hard no. If you can walk on a sidewalk (or pavement, for those who prefere) without holding on to the house you're walking past, you can walk past me without hanging on my backrest too. Anything else is you just being lazy and inconsiderate. Sorry about the rant, but you did ask. The use of you is meant to be in general, and not any particular person. Thought I should make that clear. Yours, Ann
I always sit in the aisle seat because I like to have the opportunity to move around and I want to see more people to use the handrail that stewardesses use which is under the upper compartment. They never hold on to the seats, do they?
How politely to reach your middle or window seat if someone is already sitting on a side seat. Or even worse - you really need to go to bathroom on a really long flight and person sitting next to you is sleeping for a long time. How to pass him -try to climb over or wake him up?
Really enjoy your advice and this may have been mentioned previously. But, I can’t go away without adding to the hair comments. People with long lair many times have a tendency to toss it over the back of the seat into someone’s tray. Once a ponytail hit me in the face and another in my food and yet another in my drink. Terrible!
That's very bizarre. I am tall and when the person in front of me reclines, it absolutely crushes my knees which is incredibly painful. The reclined seat hits me right at the point of my knees.. Every tall person that I know (many in my family) have the same issue.
I have been flying since i was a little kid and I always recline my seat. I think its crazy and selfish for you to expect people on 7hr flights to sit upright the whole flight , especially when the seat was made to be able to recline. However I always turn around to see what the person behind me is doing and ill let them know if necessary that Im about to recline the seat, ill also recline it slowly, just incase theres something in the way. Its not such a big deal in Europe, its normal for people recline their seats on planes and other public transport. I feel like Americans get super offended by almost everything its ridiculous. If the person in front of you reclines their seat , recline your seat too and you'll get back the space you lost, no big deal. Thats what I always do.
I don't think you know what it's like to be tall then. When the person in front of me reclines, it absolutely crushes my knees and it's incredibly painful (it feels like fire and knives stabbing in my knee caps). Etiquette is thinking about how your actions impact others. I never recline my seat. It's acceptable to recline your seat slightly on a very long, overnight flight for you to sleep (still hurts my knees, though not preferred). I think it selfish to think that everyone is short...
@ I’m a tall girl and that’s exactly why I need to recline my seat. If you reclined your seat too, you would be a lot more comfortable. Try it, next time you are on the plane and someone reclines their seat in front of you, recline yours too and see how it changes your posture. You also need to think about others , not just yourself. Nobody is going to tell me I can’t recline my seat on a long flight. It’s incredibly selfish of you to except the person in front of you to sit upright on a long flight. My Friend went to South Korea and the flight was 12+ hours. Extremely selfish to think that people should have to sit upright for that long. Even in busses, people recline their seats and it doesn’t bother me at all. I just recline my seat as well so that I get the space back. I don’t see the big deal.
The purfume thing is so true!! The girl next to me on my last trip home from Japan to Australia was wearing a sweet sweet honey purfume and I had to talk to the flight attendant really quietly if there was a chance I could move (and I am a purfume lover people…) and I was so motion sick from it… but in the end, I just had to deal with it as it was a fairly full flight.
Once when I woke up from my sleep on a plane trip, a person (three seats away in my row) had stretched out over all the seats in our row with her feet right in my face!
If there's one thing I dream of, is to get to my goals. I want my own company. Like a really huge company that fit my values. I also want to pursue my artistic ventures.
I once had a man in front of me push his back rest so far I couldn't get of of my seat! I asked politely if he could raise it. I can't repeat what he said to me. In the end the hostess moved him and she came and apologised to me. It would have been better if the man had. Some people are just me, me, me.

You just need to be tolerant of those travelers my dear. You yourself may have certain odors or aspects of your physical appearance that others find objectionable...
Oh I totally see where you’re coming from. Some smells just give me headaches and make me sneeze, and I’ve definitely had experiences on international flights where foreign scents, spices, and plain BO was really irritating. Hopefully a flight attendant can find another seat if it’s too bad :/
I haven't flown in years & it appears the milieu has really deteriorated recently! I'd have to save & go business or first class--& then pray for the best!
Thank you for the vid Ana. I fly a lot and witness many inconsiderate people. I just don’t bother to say anything. They are annoying and we have to deal with them I guess.
People who talk loudly in the loudest possible voice having a conversation when the whole plane is fully asleep! Astounds me. Not evening trying to keep a low voice… just full volume! Wow….As an Australian who has to fly many times 30+ hours to get somewhere… people are so exhausted and loud people are soooo unbelievable.
People NEEEEED to have some common sense . Its not about "" its my right to do this or that etc etc "" . The same old boring, uncouthed, uneducated , entitled excuse for everything that doesn't happen your way. Use your brain and learn to think for a change . Someone is sitting behind you so if/when reclining do it at a reasonable depth so the person behind you is not too uncomfortable. If you're not in business or first class then realise that everybody is ""sharing"" the available space. So be an adult and do the right thing..SIMPLE !! Regardless of how short or long the fight is - let's try to make it pleasant / bearable for everyone on board. The fact that these things need to be explained is a shame ! Be kind to one another . Stop the entitlement and Grow up.
I love flying but my last flight home, had a higher than usual amount of quirky people on it and I felt bad for the crew who were constantly having to manage someone's juvenile behavior.
It's like a lot of people nowadays are completely oblivious when it comes to etiquette. We have become a society of me, me, me, which is fine if you want to live that way i guess, but when you start infringing on other ppl's rights, that's a problem. I mean, grown adults who don't pick up their trash, & yes, i've had those inconsiderate ppl who recline the whole flight, without a care in the world, & some have the audacity to take off their shoes while doing it.....i could go on & on 😵💫
Please don't fully recline your seats, please, unless it's a long flight/overnight. When someone does that in front of me, it's absolutely crushes my knees and it's quite painful. I find it so selfish. I never recline my seat. A slight recline is okay though.. not preferred, but acceptable. I am always thinking of others in my day to day, and that doesn't stop when I'm on a flight. That is what etiquette is all about- thinking of others.
I would like to add taking photos and videos recklessly. Selfies are fine, of course, just as long as you are mindful not to include the people sitting next to you or behind you. It’s such an invasion of privacy.
I had someone 9 a video call moving their camera around, it was horrible. People sit so close it's hard to exclude people next to u. I wish people would just be OK spending few hrs without taking selfies
Cutting nails-ew. Skin care… idk. I’ve never seen someone do it, but I feel like there are a lot of reels circulating about doing masks, etc, in business class, which seems acceptable because of the extra space 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not too sure, though
@@paulazv414 I see no issue with putting on a little mask as the plane environment is very dry and you'll need that moisture on your face, I agree with the other ones though
@@angiea.i. Airplanes are very polluted (dirty) in general even business or first class. Many dermatologists discourage doing skincare on airplanes. It's fine if you moisturize your skin before the flight.
I'm not the tallest person in the world. The neck support for other people hits me in the back of the head and leaves me leaning forward. I just don't fly Economy anymore for a million reasons.
People who let their children run amok on the plane. I’m sorry, I know it can get boring on a long flight but, I’ve seen plenty of really engaged moms who work keep their kids occupied and keep them from annoying other people.
Please, don't recline your seat guys. The man/woman behind needs that very little space. Once, I was fast asleep on the table in front of me and she reclined waking me up and giving me a fright, I had to suffer for the rest of the flight, then asked the flight attender to ask her to put her chair up. There is very little space in economy class, and if you want more space, upgrade your ticket, or respect everyone's private little space.
On most European Airlines you wouldn't be allowed to sleep on that table in front of you. It's considered a safety hazard. If you reclined your chair also, you'd be more comfortable.
@@tomafackrell9377 You should also upgrade your seat for more space if you don’t want the person in front of you to recline their seat. If you upgraded to business class, you wouldn’t have that problem. Why should I have to sit up for the whole journey on a 7hr flight ? Very selfish to expect someone to do that.
@DilaBloom Exactly! I fly a lot internationally, 10+ hour flights. If my back hurts or I am tired, I will recline. I've never had a problem with people reclining in front of me. @DilaBloomagreed! expecting someone not to recline on a 7 hour flight is totally delusional. Of course, people are going to recline. This is ridiculous.
Anna I disagree with you on the reclining. Usually when I fly, I plan on sleeping the entire flight so that I can enjoy my destination irrelevant of the time of the flight. My politeness consideration ends where my needs start. People should pay for a front seat or extra leg room if they are so sensitive to the person in front reclining.
Please please please if u MUST travel when sick, wear a mask. I dont care if you thibkbthey don't work or jot, just do it out of consideration for your fellow passengers.
I agree with everything apart from not using any perfume. Perfume allergies are extremely rare and I am not going to stop using light perfumes. By that logic, we can never use perfumes anywhere in public as there could always be some allergic individual close to us.
What about travellers from certain country/region who have a very strong axillary/shoulder smell coz of their spicy diet and one can't stant that smell ???!!!! an emergency perfume???
@Nekos88 To be honest, I have never noticed people with spicy diets smelling in any particular way, and I lived with girls from India for a year 😃 It might be that their clothing have a smell if they have cooked food in it as certain spices leave a strong smell while using them for cooking. Cooking things like traditional curries can leave odour for a long time.
It’s not that rare, I too have a perfume allergy. On a plane the person has no where to go, if it is in a restaurant the allergic person has the option to leave, which I have had to do on occasion. Seems like such a small sacrifice to make, to not wear perfume for one day when you are flying. Hoping you rethink your opinions on the subject ❤️
Wrong. It causes headaches and migraines for many. It's a very, tight enclosed space on an airplane. I'm sure you can wait a few hours to apply your fragrance. The logic you applied made zero sense....
I do not want Starbucks. IDK, I associate it with awful people. Basically any shallow person I have met, anyone who would sell their souls for a lifestyle, narcissists, etc.. might psychotherapy myself into seeing Starbucks into a positive light again. But yeah, I prefer Coffee Bean Tea Leaf. They have strong coffee.
Once I fell asleep on the plane and woke up because of very stinky smell. Guess what, the one behind my seat rudely put her stinky dirty trainer in the gap between my seat and the window. I remember she also did not bother to remove it despite was asked politely. Disgusting! Now flying business if I can, however, it is not 100% rudeness proof!
I am guilty of not being so elegant when I called out people who had no headphones on or reclined too much. 😊 I mean... is it unpolite to ask whether someone wants to borrow headphones after the staff explicitly asked people not to listen to anything in their phones without headphones? I also wanted to "accidentally" spill hot coffee at the guy who nearly put his head in my lap after reclining his seat too much, but my boyfriend talked me out of it and we were allowed to change seats afterwards.
What about people who snore ? I had a similar experience and I had to change my seat because this 🥴 Don't these people know that they snore while sleeping??
I do realize how annoying that is (my ex was a very loud snorer, and if he fell asleep before me it would take a long time before I could fall asleep), but what are they supposed to do about it?

I never recline my seat as I'm always thinking of how it impacts others. I'm always thinking how every action impacts others. A slight recline is acceptable (though it still hurts my knees) and understandable for a very long overnight flight. A full recline for a shorter flight is poor etiquette as far as I'm concerned.. not everyone is short.
@wendigo1919 Pehaps you should upgrade your seat for more space to arrange your own comfort, not expect others to suffer and be uncomfortable in order to arrange it for you.
You also have an option to recline your own seat which will provide you with more space.
Airlines NEED to show THIS before each flight ✈️
iPad nanny got me 😂😂😂😂
Many such cases.
When everyone gets up and wants to leave the plane all at the same time, while pushing 😂
Really enjoy your advice and this may have been mentioned previously. But, I can’t go away without adding to the hair comments. People with long lair many times have a tendency to toss it over the back of the seat into someone’s tray. Once a ponytail hit me in the face and another in my food and yet another in my drink. Terrible!
A excelente educação realmente faz falta...e nunca sai de moda é atemporal ...
I have back problems and my neck is fused . I have to recline.
Also I am tall , reclining gives me more space for my legs 🤷♀️
Regarding the arm rest. I felt it was a sign my looks were declining b/c under 30 I was always given it & after men were less generous with arm rest.
Thank you!
Hello Anna ,manners are the most important part of life! A lot of people make me cringe by their lack of manners and consideration for others!
It’s all about me me me !!!!!!!!! Merry Christmas 🎉🎉🎉🎉😂
What about travellers from certain country/region who have a very strong axillary/shoulder smell coz of their spicy diet and one can't stant that smell ???!!!! an emergency perfume??? What do you suggest?
You just need to be tolerant of those travelers my dear. You yourself may have certain odors or aspects of your physical appearance that others find objectionable...
Oh I totally see where you’re coming from. Some smells just give me headaches and make me sneeze, and I’ve definitely had experiences on international flights where foreign scents, spices, and plain BO was really irritating. Hopefully a flight attendant can find another seat if it’s too bad :/
@@dogtrainingmexico I find it hard to be tolerate strong unpleasant smell for 9 hrs flight
@@angiea.i. I try that , but you know it's not always guaranteed
For some reason everyone never uses headphones and theyr always watching something on their phones on the airport lounge . Drives me insane
People who talk loudly in the loudest possible voice having a conversation when the whole plane is fully asleep! Astounds me. Not evening trying to keep a low voice… just full volume! Wow….As an Australian who has to fly many times 30+ hours to get somewhere… people are so exhausted and loud people are soooo unbelievable.
dress code
Most econ9my seats recline few cms so i am not sure what 'all the means '. They hardly recli e it spretty ok to recline them when its allowed to do so
No, there is a slight recline and a full recline where the seat in front of you is practically in your lap.
Headphones for your kid!!! Should be absolutely compulsory.
There was a baby sitting behind me coughing really badly the entire flight. I mean next stop hospital bad. It's been four weeks and
I am bringing a good book and some series, movies, etc.. damn
restart @2:00
The best you can IS headphones for your child.
Dear Anna, l need Turkish translation. Is it possible?
TH-cam video has a "transcript" of the video. You can copy the English transcript and Google translate it in Turkish
Thank you for the information.
I feel like, I am truly successful if I make that happen for myself.
I love flying but my last flight home, had a higher than usual amount of quirky people on it and I felt bad for the crew who were constantly having to manage someone's juvenile behavior.
I know money will come after, but it feels like I'll never be truly happy til I guarantee myself somehow that what I made will last forever.
The bare feet is so nasty.
I work for the airlines.. I cannot believe how poorly people dress for travel and how much flesh I see. Truly sad.
It's like a lot of people nowadays are completely oblivious when it comes to etiquette. We have become a society of me, me, me, which is fine if you want to live that way i guess, but when you start infringing on other ppl's rights, that's a problem. I mean, grown adults who don't pick up their trash, & yes, i've had those inconsiderate ppl who recline the whole flight, without a care in the world, & some have the audacity to take off their shoes while doing it.....i could go on & on 😵💫
Ex F/A here. Do not be rude to them or the next drink you order will have something 'extra' in it.
ALWAYS wear shoes in the aircraft toilet, always.
Never knew people did that with their feet! 😂
Your points aren’t talked about enough! Travelers should also bring some common over the counter meds, just in case.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
People doing their skincare, clipping, painting or filing their nails in front of everyone... 🫣
@@Misakininbo that is very different than full on unhygienic things like clipping nails or taking shoes/socks off.
I do skincare if for instance i am window seat and my mom is aisle in business or middle and dad aisle in economy, so people don't see me
So the world needs to revolve around you and your needs only? Why don't you upgrade your seat for more space?
@@tomafackrell9377 You should also upgrade your seat for more space if you don’t want the person in front of you to recline their seat. If you upgraded to business class, you wouldn’t have that problem. Why should I have to sit up for the whole journey on a 7hr flight ? Very selfish to expect someone to do that.
@DilaBloom Exactly! I fly a lot internationally, 10+ hour flights. If my back hurts or I am tired, I will recline. I've never had a problem with people reclining in front of me. I do agree that when people recline, it should be gradual though. If someone needs more space, it's on them to arrange it for themselves which could mean upgrading their seat to get more space.
@DilaBloomagreed! expecting someone not to recline on a 7 hour flight is totally delusional. Of course, people are going to recline. This is ridiculous.
Rude passengers take my seat and hope I won't turn up at all
Anna I disagree with you on the reclining. Usually when I fly, I plan on sleeping the entire flight so that I can enjoy my destination irrelevant of the time of the flight. My politeness consideration ends where my needs start. People should pay for a front seat or extra leg room if they are so sensitive to the person in front reclining.
Haha the feet 😂😂😂
so true,hahaha...I hate to fly if I can't afford first class
Please please please if u MUST travel when sick, wear a mask. I dont care if you thibkbthey don't work or jot, just do it out of consideration for your fellow passengers.
I remember when flying used to be fun :(
Ohh yes,the sits decline drives me crazy. People can be so disrespectful
Incredibly.... It absolutely crushes my knee caps.
@@Nekos88weird racism isn’t classy either, by the way!
Who don’t follow this rules they don’t care at all
❤️❤️❤️❤️😂😂😂🙏🙏👍
The plane is so boring, damn. I hate it so much.
I don’t fly anymore, but when I did, I flew first class. That solved all my problems.😊
I am guilty of not being so elegant when I called out people who had no headphones on or reclined too much. 😊
I mean... is it unpolite to ask whether someone wants to borrow headphones after the staff explicitly asked people not to listen to anything in their phones without headphones?
I also wanted to "accidentally" spill hot coffee at the guy who nearly put his head in my lap after reclining his seat too much, but my boyfriend talked me out of it and we were allowed to change seats afterwards.
If you are the type that needs to use the restroom during flights, book an aisle seat please.
What about people who snore ?
I had a similar experience and I had to change my seat because this 🥴
Don't these people know that they snore while sleeping??
I do realize how annoying that is (my ex was a very loud snorer, and if he fell asleep before me it would take a long time before I could fall asleep), but what are they supposed to do about it?
@TheSkandranon i understand that he could not do anything about it, but u did. Now he is ur ex.. 😝😝 Just kidding .... Nothing personal here 🙏 Stay blessed
@@SoumyaaMaruti Ha ha, no worries, I didn't take it personally (though that's not the reason I divorced him). Just keep in mind that there are some things that people can control, and things that they can't
Whether they know they snore or not is irrelevant. They can't help it. They can't just turn the snoring off.
@TheSkandranon not sleep so everyone else can
I think you got a very boring life
If being polite and having etiquette is boring to you... then yes, to more boring people in this world.
People sometimes use so much strong parfum.♥️👩🦰♥️
