The Internet was young and I found Jim Boyds contact information and to purchase Reservation Blues. I wrote and poured my heart out how much his contributions to Smoke Signals and enclosed payment for the CD. He sent it to me with a long beautiful note. What an amazing Human Being.
Smoke signals is such a great movie on so many levels. While it depicts the life from a Native American viewpoint the messages and truths presented are universal to all people's. Can we forgive our fathers? We must or we will be condemned to make the same mistakes.
This Song reminds me of my mother Irene. She would dance around in the living room. She would smile so beautiful. She would grab my hand I would dance with her. I will never forget the smile the on her face. I would say I love you my little morningstar. My Irene Mitchell passed in July 15, 2015... Mother my White Butterfly Woman I love you and Rest in Peace! Your Moringstar XoXo
I am white but Sherman Alexie's work saved my sanity in English class in high school as a poorer kid with an alcoholic dad, my city of Oakland devastated by crack and police violence, and several of my close friends being at risk of ODing on meth. Nothing white people wrote spoke to me like his work, and Alice Walker and Amy Tan.
I truly fell in love with smoke signals once I heard this song. My dad use to let me pick any movie I wanted for us to watch together and it was always Smoke Signals. He'd always groan after the 10th time but we always watched it anyways. It's one of the best memories I have with him. He's gone now but I cherish that memory like no other. I dedicate this song to him❤
1992 Mountain View cal. 500 yrs indigenous resistance, shoreline . My buddy and I ran into Jim Boyd, hung out talking for a 30 min, gave us each a copy of reservation blues, real nice person, rest in peace Jim Boyd, we remember you,
It's crazy how much my life can relate to the movie smoke singles. I lived that rez live and it was real, I was Victor. My dad was an was a alcoholic but my mom was also toxic. The only time they were at peace was when they were both intoxicated. This scene when this song was played I remember my mom and dad dancing to some native country band my mom threw a birthday party for my dad. The next morning I poured out all my dad's beer cause I was tired of drinking. . I can't watch this movie without crying cause it's what a bunch of us went through on the rez.
I sang this to my grandfather be for he died. we are Coyote indian. to tell u the truth this song breaks my heart but thank u for putting it on here it helps get my feelings out
Dad wouldn't divorce my stepmom so she drank the last of the estate. I showed Dad the movie "Smoke Signals", but he STILL wouldn't tell me which NDN nations we were from. When I ask, "Who Am I", I don't expect an Actual Spanish Inquisition. He'd become a Grand Knight that year and I'd been ordained Reiki Master. Our history is like Shanghai Noon meets Romper Room. congress is in default of The Charter. Nobody wins a war against women. Nobody's vaguely Scott or NDN on their Grandmother's side. We rise anyway...somehow th-cam.com/video/bh6jVDRuBwY/w-d-xo.html
I absolutely love Jim Boyd's beautiful metaphors of natural elements, equating the sun, fire, and storm to love and pain; strength and weakness; and want for companionship. His lyrics breathes the essence of defeating impossibilities in the far distance no matter the destiny....no matter the fire light we dance in, no matter how many suns we steal or hide... A Million Miles Away...beautiful.
One day I had a desire to listen to this song, which I'd heard in Smoke Signals years before. I couldn't remember the name of the song, or the artist, so I looked up the soundtrack and saw Jim Boyd's name. As I searched for more information about him, I discovered that he had died that very day. Coincidence? More likely a smoke signal.
Let's rent a car and drive it, Let's start a fire and survive it, Let's steal the sun and hide it, Let's find a storm and ride it, A million miles away.
i have the dvd of Smoke Signals.. have had it for years..just bought Sherman Alexies. books You Don't have to say you love me and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian.. love Sherman Alexies honesty and saw how he wrote Father and Farther and collaborated with Jim Boyd who died in August 2016.. 😢 such honest emotions in the music and Sherman's books ...
So many things to do in life… so much to explore and so much I wanna do. I can’t wait to go traveling on my own and need to leave but get away from things in the past. So many girls I liked but less drama if I stay much longer here in Arizona. I miss those times when I look back on my grandma when she was here and my uncles and grandpa too wish they were all here and make these nights so pretty and cool I miss how it was back then too I miss my friend who passed away from an overdose years ago. But after I got into things I should have not been in a position where I was left behind but slowly coming out of it in this age so much I wanna do and go everywhere but when I go back home in Wyoming to see my family up there I’m gonna play this song and thank everything for bringing me here because this song feels like home and something I’ll be happy about when I get there because I’m gonna feel it again and so many years are gonna come back to me too 😌
Have been a fan of Jim's for over 20 years. Loved hearing him play at Pig Out in the Park in Spokane last night. He is an incredible musician and an inspiration to many. Thanks Jim!
Don’t cry for the one that you are missing for they must rest. Just know they are and always will be proud of all that you’ve become. If you are alone in this world just remember our ancestors are with you everyday you wake up. And all that has happened to you is only a testament to your soul. Pour out some tobacco and wear your scars proudly. To all my beautiful native people: ALWAYS KEEP YOUR HEAD HELD HIGH.
Boyd Jim - A Million Miles Away Lyrics Translation in progress. Please wait... When I see your face in the firelight I wonder how the fire started Some people might call you pretty But I'd call you broken-hearted And I've got a map in my pocket That has your name written in blue I'll follow you like a river If you just guide me through Chorus: Let's rent a car and drive it, A million miles away Let's start a fire and survive it. A million miles away Let's steal the sun and hide it, A million miles away Let's find a storm and ride it, A million miles away When I see you dance in the barlight I wonder when the song'll end Some people might think you graceful But I think you're brittle and bent And I've got a map in my pocket Where every town is named for you I'll make a stop in all of 'em If you just guide me through Chorus When I see you read by the candlelight I wonder if you'll hurt your eyes Some people like happy endings But I've always liked a surprise And I've got a map here in my pocket That shows where Lucifer fell Ya I'll fall from Heaven If you guide me through Hell Chorus
OMG!!!! Not to sound too cliche but I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It speaks to me in so many ways. Yes, I want to steal this song and hide it away. It will one I listen to over and over on my way to So. Dakota's Black Hills next month.
I know this late but this makes me happy because me and my family would watch smoke signals and i watch to this day because it reminds me of my dad who sadly passed away a couple years ago and his favorite movie was smoke signals
Had the pleasure of meeting Jim at 2013 Westport Blues Festival. Being from Spokane and living in Seattle now, it was like meeting an old friend. He sounded surprised that I was a fan of the Smoke Signals movie and soundtrack.
Thanks so much for the visuals! I very much like this song by Boyd, found it on the ‘Smoke Signals’ soundtrack, may Jim be thoroughly enjoying his further adventures in consciousness.
Funny how this song pops up at peoples hardest times. Lost a great friend two days ago and this song and highwayman by the highway men was what I wanted to hear. Thank you creator for the blessings of song
this is an excellent video. a classic & an authentic one of a kind. absolutely epic in proportion visually, awe inspiring spiritually. a flavor upon the intellectual palette inducing endless insatiable hunger for more. sheer videographical genius. i could not ask for better than this. i can only listen over & over & over again until i am consumed in such visceral majestic, celestial magic & beauty whose breadth is larger than the meanings words could ever possibly hope to describe. thank you!
I can relate very much to this Sad song in this need to be alone ,it's a pain in my heart I don't understand I'm mind it is acontradicion 😢, no matter how hard I try.

Boyd Jim - A Million Miles Away Lyrics
Translation in progress. Please wait...
When I see your face in the firelight
I wonder how the fire started
Some people might call you pretty
But I'd call you broken-hearted
And I've got a map in my pocket
That has your name written in blue
I'll follow you like a river
If you just guide me through
Chorus:
Let's rent a car and drive it,
A million miles away
Let's start a fire and survive it.
A million miles away
Let's steal the sun and hide it,
A million miles away
Let's find a storm and ride it,
A million miles away
When I see you dance in the barlight
I wonder when the song'll end
Some people might think you graceful
But I think you're brittle and bent
And I've got a map in my pocket
Where every town is named for you
I'll make a stop in all of 'em
If you just guide me through
Chorus
When I see you read by the candlelight
I wonder if you'll hurt your eyes
Some people like happy endings
But I've always liked a surprise
And I've got a map here in my pocket
That shows where Lucifer fell
Ya I'll fall from Heaven
If you guide me through Hell
Chorus
☺️ yw
Nicely done 👍😘
