IU has that vocal tone Korean LOVE! Like whenever IU is mentioned Koreans always mention how pretty she sounds. She has that husky "half air, half noise" sound they love. She literally got famous for her pretty vocal tone and went viral with her triple high note in one of her earlier songs. Plus she writes, produces her own songs and the type of songs she makes fits really well with the Korean taste. They like their ballad, emotional songs with bittersweet lyrics. She's literally nicknamed the nations little sister. Every song she releases becomes an instant hit. She's unique in that she's loved by a very diverse demographic too. She's loved by all ages in Korean. One of the artists that just everyone knows and will undisputedly called a great artist. Everyone will always say doesn't she have such good songs and a pretty voice?
It makes me really sad to remember how she was treated when she just debuted.
She's gained Korea's affection, and that affection gave her the freedom to do a lot of thing in the art field like producing, song-writing, acting, modeling etc. She's being an amazing human-being overall but that fame, love she's getting, it wasn't easy and a lot of people tend to forget that she's was once a trainee and her debuts were really rough. Koreans love HER. When she went viral it was thanks to her vocal range but now things have changed and most Koreans now love her as an artist and not only for her vocal performances.
Unknown It’s really sad. She’s spoke about how she was mistreated by fellow singers and on tv programs, etc. Before she got famous she was always mistreated. Those people are treating her nicely now.. pathetic
TaeGi trash I like her & she’s okay, i wouldn’t say she’s the greatest. Her voice is average, She doesn’t have a powerful voice compared to .. ex. Artist like Ailee, Gummy etc
@@yaa9494 you can't compare iu with Ailee or Gummy, Ailee is power, Gummy is husky melody and iu is sweetness, all are great, in terms of singers with airy sweet vocals I prefer Heize tho, iu is great and deserves her popularity but Korea does have other amazing vocalists that sadly aren't as popular as iu but are extremely skilled like Akmu, mamamoo, Lee hi and others.

The meaning of the street and backup performers are beautiful. These are singers that has been trying to make it in the industry for years. And IU made their dreams come true by letting their names be in lights. As a performer their wish was to one day see their name in lights as performers. She personally invited them to perform with her
Cherisse Tillman - I absolutely adore her because of how much compassion & empathy she has for other people. From her IU team, to aspiring singers and musicians, to her constant donations to charity, IU is really firmly planted in a class all by herself. I can’t think of any other Korean artist who goes above & beyond to help promote so many others around them. I had hoped that BTS would use their tremendous global platform to share their light with other Korean artists, but it seems that they are determined to stick to collaborations strictly with Western artists which is really disappointing

She's actually the reason why I'm into Kpop. A friend of mine referred me Scarlet Heart, a kdrama where she was one of the lead, and also told me that she's actually a great singer in real life. And boom, I fell in love with her music. I could listen to her songs all day and sing along with it even though I don't know/understand most of it. I admire her even more as time goes by. She's an amazing person as well. ❤️

IU is a literally angel walking earth, she is the most humble person I have ever witnessed despite the fame she has earned. The people on stage weres ones she invited for the performance. One being someone who just made his singing debut a week prior, a famous backing vocalist who may not be well known, a street busker, and others. All who share the same dream she once had, and she gave them a moment to have their names be heard.
Dear Name always makes me cry. Everyone does matter. IU wrote this song as a tribute to the victims of Sawol incident where many young lives..@Dr. Marc you should listen to her jazzy notes in Modern Time album or in Chatshire album.. She has a wide range of vocal and genre..
Well, that night she got best album of the year, top 10 best of the year and best song writer, she must be doing something right, this is her 12 anniversary and her 10th as a singer and actress, the people singing with her on the second song were buskers, street artists whom she gave them the chance to sing with her on stage that night, their names are the ones on the big screen and they say their names when the song stops, that is why it goes a bit off tune I guess because they are not professional musicians, all are street performers, when she got the awards she said she wanted to give someone the same opportunity she had, the kid with the guitar had only a month that he debuted as a singer...

For her acting skills, watch My Mister. This drama is a masterpiece. Her performance is absolutely amazing.
IU has concerts that other celebrities attend because she knows how to put on a show. Some of her songs have concepts, some of them, she'll just pull up a chair and it'll be her and the audience in the moment. I'd like to see her live someday but I don't know if it'll be possible to get tickets, kpop tickets supposedly sell out in a few seconds, even in a stadium. I suppose I'll try if I ever happen to go to Korea while she's on tour. I don't think she goes abroad too often...
Jieun may not be the best technical singer, but her emotions are amazing and her songs always tell a story. Whenever I listen to her singing, I love to just close my eyes and allow her voice to take me through her message and meaning behind her songs.
What? Not the best singer?! Yes, she is one of the best singers of South Korea, all the songs become hits about what you are talking about, and by performance she has more powerful songs than these. Before you write anything, you need to listen to her entire discography and then say that she is "not the best singer"

She is one of the rare ones that actually sing lives and sounds great. She is also an amazing song writer she writes majority of hers songs. You should check out Mamamoo as well. They are known for their vocals as well.

The last point is where IU truly truly shines. She has so much clarity about who she is and where she is coming from, and since she writes her songs herself, they reflect that honesty. Which is why we, a lot of her fans who don't understand Korean, or don't usually prefer her breathy style of singing too, fall under the spell and feel touched. She knows what she wants to say.

Many people know singer-songwriter IU, who is called the living legend of the K-pop industry,
but before her debut, her family was very poor,
so she had even been mocked by her relatives for her dream of becoming a singer.
Such an experience could be the trigger for her to have more empathy.
'Dear name' hurts me so bad whenever i listen to it yet the song is my favorite one till now.

Her album Modern Times is a good listen.

Dear name is still my favorite song to date. The shear emotion of that song really hits me, the way it builds up and the lyrics.

She is an incredible story - made her debut at 15 and has evolved and grown at an insane rate in the past ten years. So revered and respected she can get practically anyone she wants to guest on her albums regardless of what musical genre or generation they come from, and each album she's released has been completely different and she's constantly trying new styles, different sounds and pushing herself more as a songwriter/performer. Watching her growth has been fascinating.

@@Rosannasfriend she's known for her ballads, but she goes all over the map. Just to get an idea, I'll list a couple of songs that show a bit of that range -
* The Red Shoes (from 2013 - an old school big-band jazz sound)
* Jam Jam (from 2017 - a Kylie Minogue, French Pop/Disco style)
* Twenty-Three (from 2015 - a more straight-forward pop track)
* Good Day (from 2010 - a big, Disney/Broadway style pop song that launched her into a superstar due to the iconic sustained note in the climax)
She is really talented. She is already legendary and superstar singer in korea despite her still young age(26). Koreans really love her. Even without promo, her songs could easily shoot straight up top at the charts. Koreans really love ballad and she effortlessly always deliver songs that koreans like. She still make pop songs like 23, palette, bbibbi, good day, etc and still well-like by public. She also popular and talented actress as well. Her new short films 'Persona' on netflix showcase her amazing acting skills.

You have very pointed observations as a vocal teacher and stage director as usual. I know that it's not your intent to cover the lyrics in your analysis, since there are so many great artists who speak different languages with their own cultural idiosyncrasy that may be too unreasonable for a novelist to interpret. I just want to add that in addition to an accomplished singer, she also excelled in her song writing. The production of this performance, while beautiful, is also considered meaningful and thoughtful that reflects the lyrics of the songs. The seemingly innocent chorus, consisted of unknown singers who are given an opportunity to be on stage to have their name heard (so all the names moving on the back screen during the performance of the 2nd song) since the song Dear Name is about not to forget those you know. I suppose this fits under your advice about the total audience experience.

이지은♡♡♡ she is amazing this beautiful angel failed 20 auditions before she finally debuted. Even her debut people talked so mean to her but she came through and is the most loved solo artist in korea. I highly recommend you listen to her whole Pallete album.

It's probably my 40th+ time watching this performance, and I still cry every single time.
She is so graceful and beautiful. Very easy to watch and so enjoyable to listen to. I give Dimash much love and respect for opening my eyes and ears to other languages. I knew about IU for some time because I have been watching Korean shows for years but I used to pretty much turn the volume down to a whisper and just read the subtitles. I now watch my shows at regular volume so I hear the language and the music. Amazing what I missed for the first 5 or so years. I should have been speaking Korean already!
