  • Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom, and Lee Rocker (The Stray Cats) discuss their group and their love of rockabilly in this sit-down interview with NYC newscaster and reporter Jack Cafferty.
Jack seems to show a knowledge of rockabilly that other interviewers in the early 1980s did not.
Probably recorded between October 31 - November 4, 1983, since Jack mentions that the band will be the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live," which was recorded on Saturday, November 5, 1983.

This is one of the best interviews I have seen with The stray Cats. Cafferty really knows his stuff and asks intelligent questions. He obviously loves the music. He is only 40 years old but I bet he wishes he was up there and rockin' with the cats.

Jack Cafferty was very hip, unlike so many other interviewers at the time.

Also, Sue Simmons. Do you remember her? She used to do these interviews, too. I remember when she interviewed The Clash, and Duran Duran. I couldn't find a copy of The Clash interview, but here's Duran Duran.

Also, this was a good one from a New York reporter with The Clash, and of course, their visit in '81 with Tom Snyder.

I actually saw the Stray Cats live at a small venue out on Long Island January '84 - few months after this video, and they were amazing. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. Brian Setzer is incredible. I can't believe how long ago this was.

One of the few interviews where the questions and comments were well thought out, the interviewer did his research and he was obviously a fan. I was waiting for the typical corporate bs questions, but not here.

Now we know why they all have a slight British accent!
